Several Conservative commentators have made the same mistake recently.  They point to Democrat excesses and claim Republicans are now free to use harsher tactics because “the rules have changed.”  No, they haven’t.

Alinsky says: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”  Liberals do that when they accuse Conservatives of sexual assault, drunkenness, theft, animal abuse.  Those behaviors are against Conservatives values, against our rules, which makes Conservatives guilty of hypocrisy when we fail to follow our own rules.  Sarah Palin promoting family values while her own daughter had a baby out of wedlock was a perfect target for this sort of Liberal attack.

Conservatives generally fail when trying to do the same to Liberals because the whole point of being a Liberal is to reject the old rules, to tear down the old institutions, to defy the old ways of living.  It does no good to accuse Bill Clinton of being a womanizer because that’s not against the rules in Liberal circles, as shown by the behavior of Liberals from Kennedy to Weinstein.  The only time we’ve had much success making Liberals play by their own rules was getting Al Franken out of the Senate by forcing Liberals to apply their “MeToo” campaign against him, a fortuitous albeit unintended consequence of their attacks on President Trump.

But notice that Liberals won’t force Keith Ellison out of the race.  The “believe all women” rule is not as high in their victimology hierarchy as “protect Blacks from the consequences of their actions” and nowhere near as trendy as “First Muslim [fill in the blank].”  Liberals can’t be accused of hypocrisy for protecting Black Muslim Keith Ellison from the consequences of his actions and promoting him despite his behavior because doing so IS one of their rules.

Similarly, the fact that Liberals encourage violence against Conservatives does not mean Conservatives can encourage violence against Liberals.  The  first is perfectly consistent with the Liberal rule “the ends justify the means.”  That’s not a change we Conservatives can embrace while remaining true to our core values.

The rules haven’t changed.  The two sides are playing by different rules.  Probably always have been, we just didn’t mind so much in the past.

Now, that’s not to say Conservatives must keep playing by our traditional rules.  Maybe it’s time the rules DID change, on our side.  Maybe it’s time to take the gloves off and do a little brawling of our own.  It could be the Arne Carlson, Dave Durenberger style of “Conservative” was better suited for a Hubert Humphrey era and not so well suited for a Barak Obama, Keith Ellison, Ilhan Omar era.  I’m perfectly willing to adapt tactics suitable to the times.  But not because of same false moral equivalence that doing so is justified by the other side’s changes, only because our new tactics make sense for us.

Watching a group of anti-communist Cubanos in Miami send Nancy Pelosi running from a restaurant (the way mobs of howling snowflake liberal jackals have been doing with Republicans in recent weeks), I felt uneasy, but couldn’t quite put my finger on it; it wasn’t just a matter of “taking the high road”, because high roads mean nothing to Big Left or the machine it controls.

But Joe is dead on – even moreso than usual.  This plays into their hands.   You can’t win a morality play against an enemy that recognizes no morals.

Senator Warren just held a press conference saying that genetics tests prove that she is of between 1/64 and 1/512 Native American ancestry – and therefore “Native American”

Those same tests say that I – one of the most northern European people I know, and proud of it – am between 1/64 and 1/256 African-American.

If I were to use my “African-American heritage” to get preferential treatment, including prestigious academic appointments, based on a genetic sample like that, not only would people mock and taunt me, I would mock and taunt myself. And I would deserve it.

Please, my Democrat friends – nominate this woman for president in 2020.

The world isn’t coming to an end over politics.  It’s not going to.

Kevin WIlliamson, on how good things generally are – and why some parts of our society are having such a hard time accepting that.

Especially those on the left who consider the way things are today an “emergency”.  It’s a laden term:

Those familiar with the political career of Indira Gandhi will have a special appreciation for the concept of “emergency.” The Emergency refers to a 21-month period during which Mrs. Gandhi suspended civil liberties, ruled by decree, jailed political opponents, censored newspapers, and laid the foundations for what might have been a permanent dictatorship. Dissident political parties were banned, regional governments were dissolved and their leaders incarcerated. (The Malthusians never sleep: India also set on a course of involuntary sterilization during this period, as a means of population control.) There had been political unrest and political violence (as, unhappily, there long had been in India), but the proximate cause of the Emergency was the fact that Mrs. Gandhi had lost a court case that might have resulted in her being removed from office. The Emergency was the fact that there was political opposition to her government, and that the opposition was effective.

Our situation is not quite so stark, but it is analogous. Longstanding American institutions ranging from the First Amendment to the Electoral College to the Senate have been suddenly and rashly declared “illegitimate.” Why? Because, at the moment, they are keeping the Left from getting what it wants. The Left wants to silence certain right-wing critics and dissidents, and the First Amendment stops them. The Senate and the Electoral College perform their intended constitutional role in protecting the interests of the less-populous states and their residents, ensuring the protecting of minority interests from the tyranny of the majority. This annoys the would-be tyrants. (They are, to their discredit, unable to truly appreciate that political tides turn, and that majorities are fickle things.) The ordinary political processes of the United States have produced results that the Left does not like, and, hence, those processes and the institutions that enable them must be considered illegitimate. The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is to be understood as a national emergency because . . . Democrats would prefer to have somebody else, and they believe they having something like a divine right to rule.

And one can only hope that it’s their eventual undoing.

Daniel McCarthy at American Spectator noticed the same thing about the Brett Kavanaugh hearings that I do about every single “Protect” Minnesota rally; Where are you ends, and the participants, or almost exclusively upper middle class Caucasians. The few African-Americans there are either from Allied political groups there for the optics, or people like Senator Kamala Harris, Who is political career is largely floated by… White liberals.

And according to McCarthy, the hearings are a sign that that breed of upper middle-class white liberalism is dying off.

But the Democratic voters out there yelling about Kavanaugh were as white as any country club gathering of Republicans. They looked like a line of Starbucks patrons — Caucasian, professional, largely millennial, with earth tones and earnest expressions aplenty. Men and women wore the same fashionable glasses and more or less the same clothes. It was a Pumpkin Spice Riot.

Where were the black Democrats? Where were the non-yuppies? Hillary Clinton could have asked the same questions on November 9, 2016, after she failed to get them to show up for her the way they’d showed up for Barack Obama. That election, like the Kavanaugh protest, showed that white liberalism has a problem: it’s too liberal for a majority of whites, yet too distant from the concerns of most non-whites. But its proponents enjoy so much cultural prestige as liberals and so much self-confidence as part of a historic white majority — however much they may disdain such a thing — that they failed to recognise alienated they are from everyone else. They see themselves as the natural moral arbiters of society. But nobody else sees them that way. Nothing says that a multiracial or multicultural society has to be politically centre-left, after all. India has a right-wing nationalist and religious fundamentalist government. Brazil looks set to elect a right-wing president in a runoff later this month. Yet white American liberals cling to the belief that demographic magic will rescue them from the insufficiency of their ideology appeal. White liberalism is in fact in more trouble in this country than conservatism is. The only places where white liberals values matter are in elite cultural institutions — which is why getting Kevin Williamson fired from The Atlantic is a lot easier than getting senators to vote against confirming Kavanaugh.

In of movement dominated by magical thinking, it’s no surprise that magical thinking about them selves would be part of the deal.

SCENE:  Mitch BERG is waiting for the train at University and Hamline.  

Suddenly, a group of 20 through 60-something women with protest signs and pink “feline” caps rushes across the street, waving signs and chanting chants.  One of them is Moonbeam BIRKENSTOCK, a twenty-something graduate of Saint Olaf, and of Camp Wellstone.  She works as a telemarketer for “Minnesotans United for All Progressive Causes”. 

She notices BERG.

BIRKENSTOCK (Loudly, aggressively):  Merg!

BERG:  Um, hi, Moonbeam…

BIRKENSTOCK:  Women are strong!  We are invincible!  A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle!  We will eclipse masculinity!  We will smash the patriarchy!

BERG:  Huh.  So women who make any sort of claim of abuse…

BIRKENSTOCK:  Must be believed without question or reservation!

BERG:  Huh.  You don’t think that’s already a big contradic…

(But BIRKENSTOCK has already run down the platform, joining a mob stomping on a roll of MEN-tos. 

BERG:  Huh.

In 1932, when the leadership of the German parliament decided to try empaneling a cabinet under the leader of the largest party in the Reichstag, one Adolf HItler, one of the groups that lent the new idea strong support was…

…the German Kommunist Party.

This bit of cognitive dissonance startles a  lot of modern Ameircans, with their exceedingly pat, linear understanding of political history.  In the context of the times, it made perfect sense.  And not without reason.  The Communists believed that a coalition run by a Nazi would drive everyone in the middle to one extreme or the other – which would redound, conventionally, to their benefit.  They stood to gain from the violence they believed would ensue.

And barring a major change in German political life, it might have worked.

But Hitler outmaneuvered them Commies, and everyone else.   He promised Germans an end to politics – and, numbed by a decade and a half of depression, political violence and fractiousness, Germans bought it.  And he got the allegiance of the German Army, which allowed him to sustain his seizure of complete control of all the levers of German government.

But that was all in the future.  In the fall of 1932, the Commies beheld the spectre of (more) political violence, and chortled merrily.   Division – in the form of a low-grade, cold-to-warm state of conflict – was in their interests, or so they thought.

To the best of my knowledge, Dennis Prager was the first to call our current national impasse a “civil war”.   It’s a cold one – so far.

I despair, occasionally, of it staying that way;

He notes the propensity of today’s left toward violence:

Today, we watch leftist mobs scream profanities at professors and deans and shut down conservative and pro-Israel speakers at colleges. We routinely witness left-wing protesters as they block highways and bridges; scream in front of the homes of conservative business and political leaders; and surround conservatives’ tables at restaurants while shouting and chanting at them.

Conservatives don’t do these things. They don’t close highways, yell obscenities at left-wing politicians, work to ban left-wing speakers at colleges, smash the windows of businesses, etc.

Why do leftists feel entitled do all these things? Because they have thoroughly rejected middle-class, bourgeois, and Judeo-Christian religious values. Leftists are the only source of their values. Leftists not only believe they know what is right — conservatives, too, believe they are right — but they also believe they are morally superior to all others. Leftists are Übermenschen — people on such a high moral plane that they do not consider themselves bound by the normal conventions of civics and decency. Leftists don’t need such guidelines; only the non-Left — the “deplorables” — need them.

Like the Communists of 1932, they are hoping with every Antifa outrage, with every clogged freeway, with every mob scene in a store or restaurant or place of business, to provoke a response.   It will, they think, redound to their advantage.   Given that they control the means of information distribution in this country every bit as thoroughly as the Nazis did 86 years ago, it’s not a bad plan.

My kids were a little older – probably 9 and 7, which was not long before I started this blog, now that I think about it – when I first encountered “Kidz Bop”, an endless series of current pop songs, sung by a rotating but always identical-sounding group of pre-teens, bowdlerized for a pre-teen audience.

It always annoyed me – and made sure I never got any for the kids.  I figured that’d come early enough.

Now that my kids are in their twenties, it’s really not .an issue for me; the loathsome nature of modern pop music became one of the lesser problems, although the laothsome pop music of the day was the soundtrack to the worst of the teenage years.

But others did buy them – enough to put several of the compilations on the Billboard Hot 100 Albums over the past decade and a half.

This piece in Vox (motto:  “The WaPo Libsplains America!) has issues with the series – for similar reasons to mine, but not at all the same.

A 2017 study on the effects of censorship in Kidz Bop found that replacing phrases does not actually wipe lyrical recognition from children’s minds if they have already heard the original song.

I’m trying to imagine anyone who thought it might.  Given the way kids – and kidz – pass on information they;re not supposed to know about the grownup world, it’s pretty inevitable, at least among people who have, or have been, actual kids.

Even if it did, what Kidz Bop is enforcing is also not kid-appropriate: The study says the music perpetuates the sociological phenomenon of “kids getting older younger” (KGOY), which claims that marketing is pushing kids out of their childhood earlier and earlier. The study says that repackaging adult music as kids’ music doesn’t eliminate the adult messages, even though some words and phrases are changed.

One source quoted in the study is Christopher Bell, an associate professor of media studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs who is an expert on how race, class, and gender intersect with children’s media.

Of courses he is.   Else, he wouldn’t have been in Vox.

He has hosted a TED talk on female superheroes, is currently consulting on an upcoming Pixar movie (which he cannot talk about because of a very long NDA), and is an avowed Kidz Bop hater.

He sees the product as both lazy and emblematic of our mistaken views on what censorship accomplishes. Kids’ media may take out “bad words,” but it doesn’t fix the problem of violence and oversexualization of women in media and pop culture.

Censorship doesn’t fix the problem of “over-sexualization of women in media” – because children themselves are over-sexualized.    Eight is the new thirteen…

But, maybe the blogger is not too far from where we all ought to be. I mostly roll my eyes when I hear about a new accusation against a politician. These accusations certainly all seem set up to distract from real issues. Let’s vow not to be distracted. Let’s vow to make sure accusers have solid evidence before we hear about it night and day.

Perhaps the real movement should be to encourage people to report incidents when they happen and investigate then, rather than when they are politically expedient.

Of course, counter to what the blogger writes, I have heard reports that Karen Monahan did try to report it at the hospital. If true, this is far more evidence than we get from most accusers and this is one woman we ought to believe.

The blogger at the link would seem to be a reliable relater of Democrat party chanting points. But as my correspondent correctly notes, I laud the (late breaking, selective’ sudden) concern for facts as a better arbiter of justice than raw, focused emotion (dutifully applied by a biased media).

Republicans keep warning Democrats they shouldn’t use vicious tactics against Kavanaugh because Democrats won’t like living under the new rules.  Nonsense, Democrats use vicious tactics because they know the new rules won’t apply to them.

There are stronger allegations against Keith Ellison than Brett Kavanaugh, but Democrats choose to believe Ellison, not the accusers.  The official Democrat Party line is those women are lying.  It’s the same line they took with Bill Clinton’s accusers.  The media won’t call out Democrats for hypocrisy, the media is complicit. From this, we can conclude Democrats will continue to use vicious tactics because THEY WORK.

Democrats are different from Republicans on a fundamental level.  Democrats don’t have principles, they are partisans.  They don’t care about victims, they care about victory.  They do not have morals, they have mobs.  They don’t have scruples, they have Screw You.  With a complicit mainstream media aided by SJW dominated social media who are careful to hide stories that make Democrats look bad while ceaselessly trumpeting stories that make Republicans look bad – even news stories they have investigated and know are false – Democrats only need a couple of useful idiots to derail any Republican plan.

I’m looking at you, Jeff Flake of Arizona, you, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and you, Susan Collins of Maine.

And for all the caterwauling about the decreasing civility and yawning tribalism in American society, and the straining to be even-handed about it, I believe it to be a self-obvious fact the problem tracks that fairly closely; Red America looks at Blue America in bemused confusion, like an older, more-responsible brother shaking his head at the tacky neck tattoo his idiot sister brought back from art school; Blue America genuinely hates Red America.

For many on the left a hateful anti-Americanism has become a self-congratulatory lifestyle. “America was never that great,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently said. For radical groups like Black Lives Matter, hatred of America is a theme of identity, a display of racial pride.

For other leftists, hate is a license. Conservative speakers can be shouted down, even assaulted, on university campuses. Republican officials can be harassed in restaurants, in the street, in front of their homes. Certain leaders of the left—Rep. Maxine Waters comes to mind—are self-appointed practitioners of hate, urging their followers to think of hatred as power itself.

How did the American left—conceived to bring more compassion and justice to the world—become so given to hate? It began in the 1960s, when America finally accepted that slavery and segregation were profound moral failings. That acceptance changed America forever. It imposed a new moral imperative: America would have to show itself redeemed of these immoralities in order to stand as a legitimate democracy.

Of course, the old biblical parallel says as you sew, you shall reap.   As the Democrats discovered (but, I suspect, didn’t learn) in 2016, if your entire “value proposition” is identity politics, eventually your opponents will respond as an identity group.

Remember the Cindy Sheehan, the Code Pink lady who protested at President Bush’s ranch because her son died in the war in Iraq?

Remember David Hogg, the kid who hid in the closet during the school shooting and became a national spokesman for gun control?

They were hot topics, media sensations, invited on all the news shows.  Their every utterance was treated as having absolute moral authority and cited by Democrat politicians as proof of the urgency to enact Liberal policies.  But none of those people are in the news anymore.  It’s as if they never existed.  They were used as props and discarded the moment they were no longer useful.

And now we have Christine Blasey Ford, who accuses Judge Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teenagers.  That’s enough to temporarily resurrect Anita Hill, the woman who accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his confirmation hearings.  She won’t be in the limelight long.  She’s old news, too.

What is wrong with those people, that they’re willing to be exploited and later abandoned, merely to get a few seconds of attention?  Have they no pride?

What is wrong with those people who are willing to exploit and later abandon innocents who merely want a few seconds of attention?  Have they no shame?

Joe Biden attacks Trump supporters as the “Dregs of Society”:

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden assailed President Trump’s supporters during a speech Saturday at the annual Human Rights Campaign dinner in Washington, lamenting that “virulent people” and the “dregs of society” still had a friend in the White House.

Mr. Biden told an enthusiastic crowd of LGBTQ rights advocates that social conservatives at home and abroad who used religion or culture as a “license to discriminate” were committing a “crime” of prejudice.

“Despite losing in the courts and in the court of public opinion, these forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made,” he argued. “This time they — not you — have an ally in the White House.

He’s speaking, of course, of a President who was supporting gay marriage and other “LGBTQ” rights long before the Obama/Biden White House felt it’d be politically worth it.

Because the key to maintaining a “Progressive” majority is whipping up and maintaining a culture of hate and fear toward the “others”.

Which are, well, pretty much me and my entire audience.

I just think about my own job on this. Imagine your nurse showing up late or leaving early because she biked. Imagine morale amongst the co-workers who don’t have that luxury to bike, but have kids to pick up from school or other obligations, yet they need to cover the bicyclist’s 40 minutes of non-work. But, hey, I hope she does actually try to start a business. She might learn a lot.

Silicon Valley – and its various satellites around the country, including whatever software design culture that exists in the Twin Cities – has trended left of center for a long, long time (although not forever; it used to be fairly libertarian – a change that’s been a net loss for everyone).

That’s changed, of course; when James Damore was fired at Google for the high crime of pointing out the patently obvious about Google’s internal political culture – think Arthur Miller’s The Crucible – it surprised absolutely nobody that’d been following the way the Bay Area’s software development culture has been evolving.

An engineer at Facebook has started a conservative group.   Which is big news.  David French notes:

…the internal conservative revolt at Facebook may — just may — represent one of the most consequential news developments of the year. A senior engineer named Brian Amerige posted a short statement on Facebook’s internal message board. It began with words that will ring true to employees at hundreds of major American corporations and academic institutions:

We are a political monoculture that’s intolerant of different views.​ We claim to welcome all perspectives, but are quick to attack — often in mobs — anyone who presents a view that appears to be in opposition to left-leaning ideology. We throw labels that end in ​*obe​ and ​*ist​ at each other, attacking each other’s character rather than their ideas.

We do this so consistently that employees are afraid to say anything when they disagree with what’s around them politically.​ HR has told me that this is not a rare concern, and I’ve personally gotten over a hundred messages to that effect. Your colleagues are afraid because they know that they — not their ideas — will be attacked. They know that all the talk of “openness to different perspectives” does not apply to causes of “social justice,” immigration, “diversity,” and “equality.” On this issues [sic], you can either keep quiet or sacrifice your reputation and career.

Amerige invited colleagues to join a group called “FB’ers for Political Diversity” and — as the New York Times reports — more than 100 employees have joined. It’s a small fraction of the Facebook workforce, but it’s enough that it can’t be easily squelched.

Indeed, the Times reports that angry colleagues have already tried to appeal to Facebook to shut down the group. So far, they’ve failed

This is something I wrestle with daily – at work (I work at a place with a bit of a political monoculture, as luck would have it, and suffice to say I’m not in the majority) and elsewhere in my life (I’ve changed my church affiliation, and the world of dating is rife with people who just can not tolerate the idea of being around someone whose politics challenge their own).  Like most conservatives, I want my politics to stay in my mind, my news, and at the polling station; I don’t want it to eat my entire life.

Which is of course what Big Left wants, and needs; to divide and conquer an inchoate mass of individuals.

And so this is something to follow – and, let’s be honest, emulate in our daily lives.

74 years ago last month, a few tens of thousands of Poles, who’d survived under Nazi occupation for nearly five years, rose up against their occupiers. Armed with weapons they’d cached in 1939, or stolen, smuggled or, in many cases, made in “underground” shops (because the Nazis gave Poland “common sense gun laws!) and not much more outside pure guts, they launched the “Warsaw Uprising”, seizing much of Warsaw from the Nazis. By the way, we’re talking “Nazis” in the “tanks and flamethrowers and machine guns” sense of the term, not the “tiki torch-carrying cartoon” or “every Republican, according to some “progressives”” senses some are so fond of.

Had they not been betrayed by Stalin, it would have worked.

They were a #Resistance.

If you’re someone who’s angry about the last election and tweets / Facebooks about it on the way from pilates to Whole Foods – you’re a lot of things (practitioner of your First Amendment rights, sore loser, someone who may or may not really understand how federalsm and representative government works)…

…but you’re not “the resistance”. Better people than you or I earned that title the hard way – risking, and more often than not losing, their lives and those of their families to boot.

Oh, I know.  It’s a free country.  You can say anything you want about yourself.

Just don’t expect me not to mock and taunt you for it.

If the Prime Minister of Norway came to Minnesota, would she get an exuberant reception from crowds of Minnesota Norwegians?  I suspect not, because for Americans, being of Norwegian extraction is not a core identity, it’s a footnote.  That’s what happens when people assimilate: they put their new nation first and recall The Old Country on St. Urho’s Day.  That’s what needs to happen for these folks, else they’re not Americans, they’re tourists.

I don’t disagree with Joe in principle – but not every immigrant ethnic group has molded itself to its surroundings (and, let’s be honest, vice versa) like Scandinavians of the Midwest.

I’ll submit for your approval the Italians, whose fitting into American society had a few hiccups.

And I’m not just talking Godfather Part 3, here.

In the place of ABC’s late-night Jimmy Kimmel: The “Man Show” Jimmy Kimmel. The only thing missing were the women on trampolines.

Kimmel took aim Thursday at the Christian proprietor of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado. For the late-night funny man, the takeaway from Jack Phillips’ refusal to bake a cake celebrating a trans person’s transition is that the cakemaker might be gay, and that he sure looks gay.

“It’s funny because this is a guy who spends all day, every day, meticulously designing flowers out of icing. His whole life is gay, OK?” Kimmel said to laughs. “I don’t know if the wrong cake might bring that to life or what.”

The late-night host turned his attention to the shop owner’s physical appearance, adding for good measure that Phillips is “the totally straight cake baker.”

“You would think that someone who looks like the Reba McEntire’s version of Col. Sanders would be more sympathetic to gender identity issues,” the host laughed.

“Progs” jabber about “right wing hate”, and then marinade their own culture in the real thing.

The most depressingly evergreen story in all of media.

Either does the Minnesota DFL Central Committee:

Ellison received 326 votes, or 82 percent of delegates on hand at the party’s state executive committee meeting Saturday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The endorsement comes after Ellison won the Democratic primary just days after Karen Monahan said Ellison had once dragged her off a bed by her feet while screaming obscenities. Ellison has denied the allegation. Monahan has said she has video footage of the 2016 encounter, but has declined to release it. Ellison says the video does not exist.

People are innocent until proven guilty.   Domestic abuse is itself abused in this country.   We should take accusers seriously – but guilt until proof of innocence is a notion worth fighting – rhetorically, politically, legally and if necessary militarily.

But I come not to bury Ellison (more later).   I come to pillory the MNDFLCC.  #MeToo was never anything but a virtue-signaling cudgel to use against conservatives (until it largely backfired, taking out Al Franken, Garrison Keillor, Dan Schoen and perhaps Ellison).

It’s the moral equivalent of Al Gore flying to Indonesia in a private jet to lecture the world about the climate;  it’s a moral imperative for the rest of us, an inconvenience to them.

Hungary bans Gender Studies courses at state universities:

A Hungarian government spokesman told Breitbart the country’s employers have “no demand for gender studies graduates.”

The new rule won’t affect many; only eleven students were admitted to the gender studies program at ELTE, and only two more at George Soros’s CEU according to the Breitbart report.

Wonder if we can get Viktor Orban to run for governor of Minnesota?

Deaths from heroin have passed deaths from firearms for the first time ever:

Opioid deaths continued to surge in 2015, surpassing 30,000 for the first time in recent history, according to CDC data released Thursday.

That marks an increase of nearly 5,000 deaths from 2014. Deaths involving powerful synthetic opiates, like fentanyl, rose by nearly 75 percent from 2014 to 2015.

Perhaps what we need are…
