Question For The Entire American Left

By Mitch Berg

Would it kill you to observe the fact that there’s a difference between an “immigrant” and an “illegal immigrant”?

You really just want to abolish the border, don’t you?

Why won’t liberals ever, ever, ever answer questions on the subject?

The left wingnuts that oppose immigration enforcement, need to see this movie. Chris Baker subbed for Jason Lewis last night and had Chris Burgard, the producer of Border Movie. You can (and should) view it at bordermovie.com, then tell any supporter of illegal immigration to see it, too.

People, if this doesn’t wake you up, then there is no hope for you. This movie illustrates in vivid terms just one of the many reasons that our borders need to be protected.

  2. bosshoss429 Says:

Sorry! I made the same point twice. But then, for you liberals reading this, it was probably helpful!

  3. Seflores Says:

Listening to a story on NPR this morning about a young woman who has been here since her parents brought her here – illegally – when she was in 6th grade. Now she is a victim because in applying for student grants/loans for college (to fulfill her dream of being a doctor or lawyer), she had to answer a question as to whether or not she was a citizen. The NPR reporter used the uber-PC term “undocumented” to describe her status as if that was a subtle difference between someone here legally vs illegally.
After the report it made me ask – like Mitch – does the Left just want to do away with borders for the US? Is it time to just put up billboards in every s***hole in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd world that say “Y’all Come! No documentation required! Just give us your cheap, exploitable labor and vote for anyone with “D” behind their name and you can stay”?

“You’re a racist” is an really stupid answer, but it is the only answer some people have.

  6. Kermit Says:

does the Left just want to do away with borders for the US?
No, the Left wants to do away with the US.

  7. Terry Says:

It is not just the left. The capitalists and the libertarians would love to see the border go away.

  8. Dog Gone Says:

Since I’m left of you Mitch, I’ll answer.

Of course we know the difference between illegal immigrant and legal immigrant.

No, we wouldn’t like to see the border go away. We just think some solutions like the Bush wall are really stupid and ineffectual.

We also note that states like Arizona have had a decrease, not an increase in their crime rate. We also notice that under Obama deportations of illegal immigrants are far far higher than they ever were under the last administration. And we happen to pay attention to fact-check findings (Hooray, politifact.com) that conservative statements that portray any city in Arizona as being the number 2 kidnapping capital in the world are grossly inaccurate.

So, your ‘lefties want to do away with the border’ statement, and ‘lefties don’t make a distinction between legal and illegal immigrants’ is as inaccurate and uniformed as too many of your other statements about the left.

You know – like the ones about Kennedy and NCLB.

Or Fox news claims that studies show felons vote democratic.

  9. Terry Says:

Bush had a liberal immigration policy, Dog Gone.
Is it your position that being an illegal immigrant is not illegal? Or that the reason we don’t have open immigration is because it causes crime? WTF?

  10. Kermit Says:

Or Fox news claims that studies show felons vote democratic.
    Immediately preceded by
is as inaccurate and uniformed as too many of your other statements about the left.
    is too precious.
Perhaps you could provide a citation where one of the “news” programs reported this. Not Beck, Hannity or O’Reilly. Their news programming.

  11. K-Rod Says:

    “the Bush wall”

    Bwaaaahahahahahahahaaa!

Excellent use of Rule #13, deegee. How radical of you.

Three cheers for Princess Fairy Pants.

  12. Terry Says:

The left is obsessed with Fox News & Limbaugh, Kermit.
On any given day about one in one hundred Americans tune into Fox News. Ditto Limbaugh.

  13. Troy Says:

    Dog Gone said:

    “solutions like the Bush wall”

Bush had 8 years to build his “Bush wall” if that is what he wanted to do. He didn’t. Saying things like this make you look stupid.

  14. Terry Says:

The nice thing about Bush’s “virtual fence”, from his point of view, was that it could be turned on & off at will and the rubes (that’s the American people) couldn’t tell if it was working or not.

  15. dave_h Says:

The only thing wrong with the bush wall is that it was too small, short, unprotected and thus not really a wall. The few sections that where built as a true wall do work fairly effectively.

  16. dave_h Says:

Also keep in ind DG an other think that Bush was a true conservative when the truth is he was probaly less conservative than most blue dog Democrats.

  17. dave_h Says:

Also keep in mind DG and most other democrats think that Bush was a true conservative when the truth is he was probaly less conservative than most blue dog Democrats.

  18. bubbasan Says:

Doggone, if you want to be taken seriously, you would do well to avoid using phrases like “Bush Wall” as if our former President had actually done something substantive to create one. Moreover, if you take a look at actual votes for creating a real border fence, you will see a pretty clear correlation of vote to political persuasion and even party.

Reality is that Mitch is right; I’ve rarely heard liberals use the term “illegal immigrants” or words to that effect. The logical inference would be that they either do not know, or do not care, about the distinction.

(and if you want to argue that fences don’t keep people in or out, tell it to a rancher or jail warden……even a decent vehicle barrier would be a huge improvement on most of the border)

  19. Seflores Says:

DG, Good tip on Politifact – an operation run by the St Pete Times. Hey, Politifact won a Pulitzer! – They must be credible, right?
According to them, a RADIO TALK SHOW HOST (probably an evil conservative one, like Mitch) based in Boston claimed Phoenix was the number 2 city in the Western Hemisphere for kidnappings. She claimed that this came from various NEWS ORGANIZATIONS (not Conservative politicans) that it was either 1 or 2. Politifact agreed that many news organizations made this claim, but was not able to get either the methodology or any proof of this ranking from any of the media organizations that printed or said it. So, due ONLY to the fact that no one can prove Phoenix is number 1, or number 2 or anything, claiming that Phoenix is ranked #2 on the kidnapping index is wrong. Good catch Dog Gone! BUT, wait a second.
Last year, according to POLITIFACT there were 318 kidnappings reported in Phoenix down from 358 in 2008. By way of comparison, there were only 9 kidnappings in Philadelphia in ’08. I don’t know how many kidnappings there were in the Twin City Metro (Margaret, any help here?) but I’m willing to bet it was less that 10. Now I noticed that Politifact tried to make the point that no one needs to worry about being kidnapped as those kidnapped are usually involved in the people smuggling or drug business. Much like our own Mayor Rybak, Politifact says that us non-druggy white folk have nothing to worry about. It’s an odd and bigoted way to look at your fellow human beings, but hey they are Politifact and they won a Pulitzer.
Now DG, please don’t tell me that 300+ kidnappings a year isn’t a big deal. It is.

  20. Mitch Berg Says:

he was probaly less conservative than most blue dog Democrats.

Many libs think “Republican” and “Conservative” are synonymous. They are not.

Clinton was actually more conservative on the economy than Dubya, although to be fair Clinton had to triangulate to the right and go back to his DLC roots after ’94.

  21. buddhapatriot Says:

Would it kill you to observe the fact that there’s a difference between an “immigrant” and an “illegal immigrant”?

No- would it kill you to admit that the terrorists are coming in through Canada (and not Mexico)?

You really just want to abolish the border, don’t you?

Not any more than I’d like to “abolish” the border between Roseville and St. Paul, or Iowa and Minnesota.

Why won’t liberals ever, ever, ever answer questions on the subject?

In this instance, perhaps you’re asking the wrong questions, Mitch.

  22. scooby509 Says:

“Of course we know the difference between illegal immigrant and legal immigrant.”

Please explain that difference in terms of rights, and the rule of law. How do you feel about anchor babies? Do you understand how I, as a legal immigrant, feel about having followed the law while other people flagrantly violate it? Do you think it’s healthy for democracy for the Democratic party to recruit constituents by encouraging them to violate the law?

“No, we wouldn’t like to see the border go away.”

So does that mean that the Pres should start enforcing laws on the books since FDR? And get out of the way of Arizona when they’re enforcing those laws? Do Democrats support any measure that would strengthen it? Do they recognize America’s right to secure its borders and control immigration? Is there any other country in the world that is required to allow anyone in, and is not allowed to verify that immigrants are there legally?

“[Bush bush, blah blah Bush, blah blah Bush.] [Blah blah, Fox News, blah blah blah, Fox News, blah blah Bush.]”

  23. jimf Says:

DG- “We also know that states like Arizona have had a decrease, not an increase in their crime rate.” And would that be state-wide, or along the border? Could go up on the border but down state wide. But anyway, so what? What part of “illegal” don’t you understand?

  24. Mitch Berg Says:

No- would it kill you to admit that the terrorists are coming in through Canada (and not Mexico)?

Strawman. I favor tightening all borders.

  25. Speed Gibson Says:

Mitch, you’re being too kind, actually inaccurate. There is no such thing as an illegal immigrant. Immigration is a legal process. Though who go through that process are called immigrants, legal by definition. Any other non-citizen crossing our border is an alien. Only among aliens are there legals (visa, green card) and illegals.

  26. justplainangry Says:

What speedster said. Distinction should be drawn between legal and illegal aliens, not immigrants. By bestowing “immigrant” moniker on aliens, you legitimize them.
