Per this article in the Telegraph, not only has the World Athletics Council officially banned trans athletes from elite competition, but Scotland’s once-untouchable Nicola Sturgeon was jettisoned, largely due to her all-out support of the Gender Affirmation Reform bill.

    My take here is that at a certain point, people who are hastily transitioned and regret the loss of what could have been/their body parts are going to seek redress. If the law does not allow redress at the jury box, the victims are going to seek it elsewhere. No law can change that.

  14. Yes, Swiftee, when debating contentious issues, it’s very important to shut off peoples’ minds by leading with insults. Otherwise, we might actually get to a point where people would seriously consider the likelihood that gender dysphoria actually is strongly, and even causally, linked with mental illness.

    And we certainly want to avoid a situation where lawmakers and doctors agree that these procedures are irreversible, and hence before a scalpel touches skin, they need to make very sure that it’s the best way of dealing with these issues. If we lead with insults, we greatly increase our chances of “success.”

    Or something like that.

    Elite athletes of both sexes are highly tuned machines, maximizing every advantage that nature has given them. Asymmetric performance of elite athletes who have gone through male puberty vs those who haven’t is the reason we have sex segregated sports. The people who manage our elite institutions are as dumb as tree stumps.

  19. i gave up my subscription to Science about ten years after they published an article stating that since there was some overlap in the blood testosterone levels in male and female Olympic athletes, it was time to scrap sex segregated sports.
