How I Spent My Saturday

I did a prerecorded show, so I could attend the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus’s annual (after a few years off) Rally at the Capitol.

Huge crowd.

Great speakers – Rob Doar, Bryan Strawser, Reverend Tim Christopher, and an array of pro-2nd Amendment legislators.

Rob – the MNGOC’s political director – was able to announce that most of the DFL’s gun bills – the semi-auto/”Assault Weapons” ban, the magazine limits, banning guns for people under 21 – are dead this session.

But Universal Registration and Red Flag Confiscation bills could still leak through. Hence the rally – and Rob’s injunction that “we need ten of you for every one that’s here”.

If you’re not in the MNGOC already, consider this your engraved invitation.

By the way: I’ve been to a lot of these rallies – like, all of them, ever – and I’ve never seen a police presence like I did on Saturday.

State Patrol, all over the main level. There was an equal number of very bored officers at the lower entrace. There were SP and SPPD cars parked at most of the. intersections within a block or two of the Capitol.

Rumor had it that the cops had been told to expect trouble. No specifics about who was going to cause the trouble, or who felt it; I suspect the Speaker of the House and the Governor indulged their base and wanted to put on a show of force.

Notwithstanding, ,the cops were universally friendly, even helpful. Not to project, but they knew that nobody was going to cause problems.

    As one of the speakers noted, the MN Gun Owners rally is always the safest place to be in or around the capitol!

    In the Gov’s and the Speaker’s defense, there was a previous “Right Wing” Rally that resulted in violence
    …
    when a group of lefty Macalester students got violent. IIRC, it wasn’t a MNGOC Rally.

    A gun you cannot use is worse than useless. You poor slobs are almost guaranteed a few nights in the can, and an expensive trial, at the least if you use a firearm to protect yourself.

    It’s a pity, too, because Spring is around the corner, and the jackels are getting restless…all this has happened within the past 2 weeks. They’re just getting “warmed up”.

    Wait about a week to be certain that you know the facts.
    But I cannot help but think of Kelly Jay Keen been attacked by a trans mob in New Zealand last week.
    The transmania on the left is f*cking insane. No one on the left is interested in the strange increase in the number of people (especially biological girls) who claim to be trans in the last decade. Gender dysphoria is a serious mental illness that has serious, lifelong effects on the day to day lives of the people afflicted.
    What’s going on with these people? I don’t know. There are definitely some mental health issues going on. Trans activists have convinced themselves, and the Democrats, that denying a man who wants to wear a dress access to female only spaces is literally an attempt to kill them.

    The US is a stark outlier in citizens killed by cops, and in cops killed by citizens because of gun ownership. Fear of dying informs every seemingly casual encounter, justifiable fear.

    Policing in a society where you have to make an assumption that literally everyone could be armed is just a very different proposition than where this is not the case.

    That’s not to excuse police incompetence in the US, but police in Europe generally have the luxury of assuming a random person stopped for a traffic offense will not have a weapon in the car or on their person.

    Reading the arrest & court records of the people who actually commit gun crimes is depressing. Most of them have a long, long record of felonies with little time served. And of course it is illegal for them to be anywhere near a gun. Most of them have previous convictions for illegal possession of a firearm. You can’t help but feel that the county attorneys & judges who keep putting these guys back on the street know what it is that they are doing. There aren’t many people who commit a string of felonies over years who suddenly go straight. These criminals are unguided missiles committing crime after crime until they are killed or they kill someone else.
