CNN: “The Oscars Were Mostly Peaceful”

I never watch the Oscars. Literally, not once since, maybe, college.

And I’m not about to start.

But I will say that I wanted to say this; in the entire history of standup comedy, I don’t believe anyone…

…has handled a heckler quite like that.

I wanted to.

But I won’t.

I will, however, say this: It’s entirely possible that the entire episode – the miked-jiust-well-enough audio, Smith stepping into the exact right “mark” to “throw” the “punch” so the camera angle couldn’t see the “impact”, Rock’s cool, calm, collected “response” to the “hit” – wasn’t a perfectly constructed “stage punch”, straight out of a community theater production of West Side Story.

But if it were, it wouldn’t have come across any differently.

  1. And I thought a tranny in a WNBA locker room would look like a Spirit airlines gate.

    Impulse control; get ya some.

  2. I guess I’ve got kind of a doughnut hole view of the situation because I think masculinity is about self-control and also closing your fist when you hit somebody.

  3. Naw, not a punch. The one guy insulted the other guy’s wife. That’s a slapping situation. And then pistols at dawn.

  4. Apparently his marriage is open to everything except jokes. This also sets a bad example for the dimwits who will think it’s OK to walk on stage and assault a comedian.

  5. FWIW, Smith and his wife have an “open marriage.”
So it would be okay with Smith if his wife had sex with Chris Rock, but it is not okay if he jokes about her hair cut.
    Modern chivalry.

  6. While I really enjoy the post itself, as well as all the jokes and comments here, this whole thing pretty much annoys me. This isn’t important. It’s stupid. It’s a petty distraction. And yet more proof of how liberals totally fuck up and destroy everything they touch.

  7. After watching the clip a couple of times, I’m convinced that it wasn’t staged. Right after Chris told the joke, Willy was smiling. He didn’t go medieval until he looked at Jada, who was obviously unamused. Will was ticked off and I’m surprised that he didn’t punch Rock, rather than slap him and by him screaming to “keep his wife’s name out of his f-ing mouth”, it pretty much topped it as an angry response. He apparently has apologized to Rock and the audience publicly.
