Your blog has been really remiss in failing to cover the finer points of modern Japanese Self Defense Force armored combat doctrine.

Ah, the good old M1A Abrams Main battle Tank. The most bad a*s tank to ever grace the planet.
Hell, the baddest a*s military vehicle period.
Of course the dhimmicraps fought tooth and nail against the US fielding them.

They did, Kinlaw? I’d have thought I’d have remembered that, but then again, I was only just getting into high school when the M1 was introduced.
My thought on tanks in Japan is that the terrain there would have made it poor country for tanks, and much better for well-distributed artillery and such, but huh. Pretty stuff.

bike: yeah, they tried to argue that it was too heavy, a C5 could only carry one of them at that time as I recall. The C-17 came into service later, probably because of that discussion, and could carry two, and I think C-5 upgrades allowed it to carry two as well.

That I remember. My thought at the time was “didjaknow that there are these things called ‘ships’ which can carry tanks? My grandfather served on one.”
