Rotten To The Core

There are some facts about the gun control debate in this country that are pretty dead-lock cut and dried.

“Gun Safety” advocates don’t care about crime – they care about control.

White liberal gun control activists only really care about crime that affects white liberals – emotionally.

You can tell Nancy Nord Bence is lying when you see her lips moving.

But the fact is, if you dig deep, there really aren’t any good guys in the debate. The gun grabbers and Democrats, of course – but even the Republicans, at least at a national level. never faill to disappoint.

I’m going to drop the beginning of a Twitter thread – this is just the first, but please read the whole thing:

It’s the sort of thing that led me to leave the GOP 25 years ago – out of general disgust more than any actual ideological differences.

  1. The Vegas shooter wasn’t crazy. There is no imaginable regime, other than a complete firearm prohibition, that would have prevented Stephen Paddock from getting his hands on a weapon.
Most Lefty’s don’t believe in evil. They believe in mental disease. I know that many people on the Left (and the right) believe that things that measure the physical operation of the brain, like CAT scans and MRI’s, can “detect” mental illness (aka mental disorders). They can’t. Psychology is a behavioral science, it’s not chemistry. How can it be otherwise? A soldier kills a dozen guys in a war, gets a medal and a parade. Serial killer murders a dozen people, gets the chair. Oppenheimer built bombs that killed 200,000 civilians & threatened the existence of civilization. Was he crazy? How about Teller, the father of the H bomb?

  2. In the current environment, mental health experts believe that a man who says that he is a woman instantly becomes a woman.
While a citizen who points out that he is still a man has a mental disorder.
You really do not want the government to be in the business of deciding who is crazy and who is sane.

  3. At the danger of being to picayune, didn’t the GOP control the House from 2011 until 2019? Son claims that the Democrats controlled the House after Sandy Hook but still couldn’t pass gun control.

  4. There is no imaginable regime, other than a complete firearm prohibition, that would have prevented Stephen Paddock from getting his hands on a weapon.

If that were the case, the drug cartels wouldn’t be able to get automatic weapons. Criminals are going to do illegal things.

  5. I’m far more cynical than Mitch or SoS. Why would the GOP risk pushing a bill on mental health? They’d seen the damage inflicted by the any GOP attempt at modifying health care. Even today the GOP’s general approval is dropping even more with the Trump administration backing the theory that without the tax Obamacare will be held unconstitutional (6% drop). The public seems have been brainwashed by the media into believing that Obamacare is improving health care coverage, despite fewer and fewer people having coverage because the expense has gotten so high for folks without the subsidy that they’re choosing to risk going without care.

It’s much like the Social Security debate. The jackasses donkeys persuaded the country that the GOP wanted to push grandma off the cliff, so the GOP are unwilling to make any changes lest they lose seats. And so we careen down to the inevitable failure where we’ll see benefits cuts and much hand wringing as grandma gets back to eating Alpo because she can’t afford food with her reduced checks, and nobody will want, or be able to afford, to fix it. All because we couldn’t have made small changes long ago when the donkeys wanted an issue with which to bludgeon the GOP.

Bingo. The inmates are running the asylum. Many of the psychiatrists and MD’s out there making policy are as crazy as anyone. Look up “Dr. Leah Torres” on twitter and tell me she isn’t a borderline psychotic. Kids are impressionable, but they know fire is hot, ice is cold and a man in a dress is a man in a dress despite what the teachers are telling them.

Add all of the behavioral medications they pump kids full of these days to keep them quiet, and it’s a scientific mystery why public schools don’t look like Omaha beach on D Day.

  7. You are right, Nerdbert. I should have said that only a complete ban would have prevent Paddock from getting his hands on a weapon legally.
Hind sight is 20-20, it’s easy, now, to say that Adam lanza’s mother shouldn’t have been able to buy a weapon. But she obviously had good reason to fear her son. Who could turn her down for a permit in good conscious?
If you want to dramatically reduce gun violence, and you don’t give a damn about the constitution, ban anyone under the age of 30, and anyone in their household, from gun ownership.
The suicide prevention angle for banning guns is stupid if you legalize suicide.
“As your doctor, I know you’re depressed. You can’t have a gun. But if you want, I can refer you to the Hemlock Society” is just stupid.
