Simplify

I’m a W-2 employee with employer provided health insurance.  My wife is retired, collecting Social Security and a pension.  We buy license tabs, pay interest on our home mortgage and give to charity.  We adjusted our withholding so we break even – no refund but nothing due.  With the new simplified tax code, we should be able to file our tax return on a postcard, right?  But no, State and Federal is 17 pages.  I lack the skill to file on paper and lack the patience to play with software so I pay a tax preparor $200 to dot the “I’s” and cross the “T’s.”
If we lived in a socialist country, I wouldn’t have to deal with any of that.  They government would pay for all my expenses and keep everything I earn aside from doling out a small allowance, same as when I was a kid living with my parents.  It’s beginning to appeal to me.

As long as I’m the “parent”, I sure don’t mind.

Somehow, that seems unlikely.

  1. Would that my taxes were that simple. The last time I printed out my return with all the required worksheets it was longer than my Master’s thesis. This year’s cranked past 120 pages with the changes to the tax code and some strange AMT gymnastics that TurboTax thought were required. Even the MN return cranked past 20 pages I had to mail in, not counting the Federal return.

When my taxes get to the length of my dissertation, I think I’ll support Little Rocket Man dropping the Big One on DC.

  2. I wish WordPress had a feature that tells you why you wind up in the moderation queue. Is there a browser plugin that might be able to do that?

  3. this brief description with emphasis:
“Akismet is a spam filtering service that filters spam from comments, trackbacks, and contact form messages. The filter works by combining information about spam captured on all participating sites, and then using those spam rules to block future spam.”

basically “other” WordPress sites identify conservative comments as spam and that becomes the rule for this site too. Its a broken tool.

  4. i just posted the same comment twice . . . once with the offensive word spelled correctly, which landed me in moderation, and once with the asterisks which sailed right through.

imagine the filter is run by leftists who would be offended by a comment calling them s-o-c-i-a-l-i-s-t-s and use a different word or spelling.

  5. Since the word includes within it the name of an ED medication that is the subject of a lot of spam, the word “Socialist” always gets your comment modqueued. I check the queue a few times a day when I can.

Substituting the phrase “Internationalist proletarianism” would solve the problem. #JustSahing

OTOH, substituting “Soviagraism” will do you no good at all.

  6. While soc**list is an example of moderation based on ED meds nothing in nerdbert’s post meets that criteria, so the akismet tool is STILL a broken tool.

  7. I wonder if “saltwater” will get through the filter. (it has a vulgarity in the middle of it)
