It’s Still Way Too High

Trust in the mainstream media hits an all-time low:

A major pollster has some stark news: “Americans’ trust and confidence in the mass media ‘to report the news fully, accurately and fairly’ has dropped to its lowest level in Gallup polling history, with 32 percent saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media. This is down eight percentage points from last year,” writes Art Swift, an analyst for the Gallup poll, which first asked the nation to weigh in on the press in 1972.

“Over the history of the entire trend, Americans’ trust and confidence hit its highest point in 1976, at 72 percent, in the wake of widely lauded examples of investigative journalism regarding Vietnam and the Watergate scandal,” Mr. Swift said.

The sentiment has fallen slowly and steadily, and has consistently been below a majority level since 2007.

14% of Republicans still trust the media – which means I still have work to do.  51% of Democrats trust the media – which is confirmation bias in action if I ever saw it.

  1. I big part of MSM bias is what they refuse to cover, vs what they hammer into the ground every day:
-NYT putting Abu Ghraib on the front page for 33 consecutive days
-A extreme anti-abortionist murders an abortion doctor…gets lots of coverage. Around the same time, a pro-abortionists walks up to a pro-life protestor in Owasso Michigan and puts a bullet into his head. Saying he hates pro-life people. Ignored in MSM
-Drag queens….lots of favorable coverage of cross-dressers. No one (except Mesabi Daily News) reporting on the boy using the girls locker room and showers, grinding and grabing his dick in front of the girls. Basically its exactly what conservatives said would happen.

  2. One more thing…several states have passed laws this year (Iowa, California, Vermont, Mass.) that basically make it illegal to run a traditional Biblical school or even run a church. I wonder why Mark Dayton is boycotting these states.

  3. If I can do a 3rd thought…..if you really want to see MSM bias….read Wisconsin newspapers on Governor Walker. Its go over the top…..well, its why Walker keeps getting elected. Madison, Milwaukee, La Crosse, Eau Claire paper all HATE Governor Walker and they let it be known every day. Its interesting reading those papers when you know the truth. Its like their stories (not just editorials) are written by Madison Kooks. Very unprofessional.

  4. I think the reprobate leftist confidence in the MSM lives on a deeper level than simple confirmation bias. Remember, the generation taking the reigns has been staring at goats inculcated in the virtue of collectivism since their two mommies shuffled them off to pre-school at age 3. They instinctively trust Big Government, as long as it is in the proper (read leftist) hands.

The leftist dominated MSM doesn’t merely confirm their beliefs, it stimulates their pleasure centers on a chemical level, like opioids.

  5. Those 14% must be never trumpers who will vote for Hillary. Also LA Times has Trump +6 today with the trend line pointing straight up for Trump and straight down for Hillary. This could be a electoral clobbering that we haven’t seen in 30+ years.

  6. Not only do I not trust government personally, I view it as evil, granted it’s a necessary evil but still. I bet we could slash 40-50% of the budget and people’s lives wouldn’t change dramatically

  7. I couldn’t care less what people tell polsters. They are still supporting their business models (in declining numbers admittedly)

  8. Swiftee FTW! Big government gets rid of good paying demonic jobs! No way POD can keep up with Maduro in Venezuela.

  9. Here’s an example of MSM bias. I’ve mentioned before that most of Wisconsin newspapers HATE Governor Walker and make it clear not just in editorials, but in the news sections.
Right now on the La Crosse Tribune’s homepage, they show 9 current news items. Four are anti-Walker and another attacks a GOP congressman in Iowa.

  10. If you look at a timeline of trust in government, it mirrors the efforts of the federal government (our least democratic level of government) to dictate more and more of the decisions that had been made at the state, local, and personal level.

The federal government is structurally unable to manage the day-to-day lives of Americans to the extent that it currently does. The peak of the line was reached in 1964, the year the first Boomer turned 18, and its been downhill since. This is not a coincidence.

  11. At some people will not tolerate being BS’ed. That may be mean the end of the dead MSM media., and NBC, CBS, ABC, et all !!

Liberals would not object to converting the news divisions of the networks to tax payer subsidized operations, managed as quasi-independent corporations run by appointed bureaucrats, with spectrum reserved for their use. You know, like public TV and radio.

  13. Know why “Anchorman” was a hit?

People think Ron Burgundy was plausible, real character.

    Here’s the dirty little secret:

    He is.

  14. This morning: further proof, not only are they not trustworthy, they are dumb. I’m starting to think Trump might actually be a genius and has been playing relatively dumb until recently
