Shot in the Dark

Stimulus Simulus

I was biking on a Three Rivers bike trail in and around my home in Hennepin County today and came upon some young workers building a little area of stairs onto the biking/walking trail from a park.

They had arrived in an official Hennepin County van, so I would have to assume that they were county workers.

Posted proudly near their little project was a sign:

“Your Stimulus Dollars at Work”

Government workers, working on government land, on a government project. Dare I say an unnecessary one at that.
Riddle me this: Just exactly what stimulus was this project providing?

How many sustainable private sector jobs, the only source of true economic growth, were created?

    I just got back from a drive through Hawaii Volcanoes National park.
    Halemaumau is still venting gas, as is Pu’u O’o. The TEB breakout is still active. There is a huge steam plume where the lava from the TEB breakout is going into the sea. Wind was from the SSE, no danger to inhabited land.
    Price $0.0, unless Obammy sends some stimulus money my way.

    Young people in a county van? Sounds like a field trip for some incarerated yutes.

    Maybe the sign was for the van that was purchased through cash for clunkers.

    Stairs to a bike path. Is that a perfect metaphor for the “spend-u-more” (“oops,” stimuless) program or what?

    And OK, you can walk on it as well, but please….

    This is Obama’s Illinois history speaking–I’m personally surprised that the sign you saw didn’t say “Barack Blagojevich, President” in 2 foot tall letters–making the sign far more expensive than the actual work.

    hey, well worth borrowing money from the Chinese to build stairs on a bike path. Using the P.J O’Rourke method, is it worth shooting grandmother over? I would vote no.
