Publishing Notes

While we wait for further news on Katie Kieffer’s first book – of which more to come soon – I’m happy to notice that XKCD is publishing a book this fall.

Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions will be published September 2nd by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Starting today you can pre-order it from your favorite bookseller (Barnes & NobleAmazonIndie Bound).  There are also foreign editions, including a UK and Commonwealth edition and a German edition

Sounds like my next couple of airplane trips are covered!

  1. Oooooh, let me guess.

More right wing factually inaccurate bullshit trying to trash climate change with junk science paid for by the fossil fuel industry, and maybe a bit of junk science creationism thrown in to cater to the anti-science bias of the radical right?

Conservatives consistently believe things which are false, inaccurate and untrue; it is a remarkable litmus test for defining conservative ideology.

That and conservatives do an amazingly shit job of fact checking on a regular basis, aka willful ignorance.

  2. DG; too arrogant, bigoted and intellectually slothful to even do a cursory google search fact check, instead you bray your ignorance and bigotry at the world utterly clueless as to why you are a laughingstock.
Go do a real fact check then come back and defend each of your assertions.

  3. Wow! Hate speech ……. with absolutely no facts …… ever ………
Dog Gone you’ve long been a self-parody; now your comments look like they could be written by a drunk teenager with decent grammar and spellcheck

  4. DG, Seriously? Really?

    Randall Munroe is a leftist.

    You are absolutely in-fucking-credible.

  5. It’s as though Dog Gone only shows up here to exhibit her ignorance.
But the hatred she feels for each and every conservative is real. Se’d put us all in camps, or worse, if she could.
When dealing with a Leftist, don’t make the assumption that they are trying to come to reasonable accommodation when his or her interests conflict with yours. That’s a particularly conservative, and American idea. The heritage of Leftism is totalitarian and European.

  6. For some reason, whenever I read a DG comment I picture it being recited by Daffy Duck. And, incongruously, I also think of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s essay, “On Folly” which includes the following observation:

“The fool can often be stubborn, but this must not mislead us into thinking he is independent. One feels somehow, especially in conversation with him, that it is impossible to talk to the man himself, to talk to him personally. Instead, one is confronted with a series of slogans, watchwords, and the like, which have acquired power over him. He is under a curse, he is blinded, his very humanity is being prostituted and exploited. Once he has surrendered his will and become a mere tool, there are no lengths of evil to which the fool will not go, yet all the time he is unable to see that it is evil.”

  7. DG,

This may be the iconic dog gone comment – while sputtering and fuming about “fact checking”, you identifiy Randall Munroe as a conservative. He is emphatically not.

Like pretty much every comment you’ve left in the last several years – long on snotty unearned condescension, short on… Well, everything else.

You’ve turned into a crank, DG.

  8. DG – I hate to say it. I really do. You had the potential to be so much better.

What value do you think your typical comments on my blog – all full of unearned condescension, and “facts” that are invariably shown to be everything but – provide?

  9. Hey, Merg?

I’m betting you could copy and paste text from Marx’s “Communist Manifesto” and DG would drop a comment about how conservative and ill-informed we all are.

I mean, come on. She’s beyond parody now. She’s just fucking insane.

  10. Yossarian,

    Of course, she doesn’t.

And I’ll stick with “crank” for now.

As to your second point? Ahem.

  11. Puppy reminds me of something I’ve been saying to anyone who will listen, and a bunch of people who will not, for a decade; when you lead your argument with a personal attack, you’ve just informed the world that you are either unable or unwilling to make a real argument.

I’m leaning towards the former with Doggone these days….

  12. Dog Gone can’t be talking about the XKCD book. As far as I know, the only thing Munroe Randall has ever inked about climate change was the St. Louis strip and that was favorable to the idea of global warming.

Dog Gone must be imagining what Katie would write, if Katie were a psycho. Is that what they call “projection?”
