More Of That Smart Diplomacy

The democratic and legislative process of our allies – sovereign nations all…:

So when Prime Minister David Cameron was unable to muster the votes in Parliament for support for a strike in Syria — even one limited to stopping the future use of chemical weapons — shock could be heard in the voices of senior White House officials who never saw the British rejection coming.

Bungled by Cameron,” said one.

“Embarrassing,” said another. “For Cameron, and for us.”

Now Mr. Obama is left to cope with miscalculations on both sides of the Atlantic.

…are there for the mocking by our current pack of ruling fratboys.

  1. Has there ever been an instance, since the Revolutionary War, the Briton has failed to get our back? Do they realize that Barry is incompetent and guaranteed to bungle this, or is it just payback for his boxed CD gift?

  2. Parliament needs to be reminded that foreign policy should not be determined by opinion polls.

  3. British foreign policy should not be driven by opinion polls, it should be driven by a calm analysis of the national interest.

Although . . . when the British public have decided it is not in Britain’s national interest to muck about in Syria, their decision will be reflected in public opinion polls, to which elected officials do well to pay close attention in hopes of keeping their jobs.

So British foreign policy will be driven by public opinion polls. And that’s a good thing. Wish we had some of it here.

  4. Obama has been flipping congress off since January, 2011. Now he asks its compliance.

    ‘Fair sir, you spit on me on Wednesday last;
You spurn’d me such a day; another time
You call’d me dog; and for these courtesies
I’ll lend you thus much moneys’

Hey, give fratboys some credit, at least they know (at least if “Animal House” was true to life) how to put together a rocking toga party and paddle some tighty-whitey ass when the time is right.
The current White House certainly knows how to tweet, facetime and snapchat, but beyond that? They send Secretary Kerry (by the way, did you know he served in Vietnam?) out last week to say that the President as Commander in Chief had to act unilaterally and immediately as there was a moral urgency to strike Mrs. Assad’s shoe closet RIGHT NOW! And then he went on the Sunday shows to say the plan all along was to involve Congress. While on the shows he (Kerry) says however Congress votes, Obama has the right to do whatever he wants.
Jay-sus! I know the White House has contempt for the people of the United States, but this was even more contemptuous than usual.

  6. Barack Obama, 2002 “Anti-war” speech:

I don’t oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

    Today:
The Obama administration has previously said that military strikes would not be aimed at toppling Assad’s government nor altering the balance of the conflict.
