Great Job, Bloomie

Cuomo ratchets up gun control.

Bloomberg leads a group of mayors in a battle against the Second Amendment (when they can spare time from their own criminal defenses).

New York, mostly placid since the Giuliani years, erupts in gun violence:

Violence surged like the mercury Sunday, with three more fatalities from gun violence — and eight others wounded in shootings — bringing the total number of bullet-riddled in the city to 25 in less than 48 hours.

Only Staten Island was safe from the wide-ranging spray of gunfire and sickening weekend bloodshed. At least 12 people were blasted in Brooklyn, eight in the Bronx and another four in Queens. The sole person shot in Manhattan took several slugs to the chest and perished in broad daylight.

Of course, Chicago has the “toughest” gun laws in the country, and is a cesspool of violence.  Washington DC is right up there on both counts.  Connecticut had “tough” gun laws before Sandy Hook, and has ratcheted them up since – but in what state did Sandy Hook happen, again (all notwithstanding the fact that guns are absolutely illegal in schools to begin with)?

I know – correlation doesn’t equal causation.

But there’s just so much correlation.

  1. Racisssss Alert: the following comment is not politically correct.

The races of the victims and shooters were not disclosed in the article. Under PC journalism stylebook guidelines, that is code for “all were Black.” Black-on-Black violence will continue to plague the Black community until it is willing to do something about it within the Black community, or to support outsiders who are willing to do it for them.

So long as “leaders” of the Black community play the race card to excuse Black killers when they prey on Black children, violence will remain a Black problem that White people have no moral standing to address. Stepping into Black society to solve their problems for them, whether they like it or not, was The White Man’s Burden and it went out of fashion with the British Empire.

Therefore I can ignore Black-on-Black violence as Not My Problem and None of My Business. I recommend you do the same.

  2. Gun Control is a great example of the double standard Republicans allow to continue in American politics. Shootings ravage liberal havens with strict gun control and liberals cry for more gun control. A CWP holder gets ticketed for J-walking and liberals cry out he’s a menace to society and CWP should be repealed. Typical Republicans fall in line so as to appear “non-extreme” while doing the Democrats job of attacking true conservatives trying to solve the problem. They then wonder why they lose in elections.
This holds true for other reforms including spending, taxation, union/RTW, etc.
I’m looking at you McCain, Carlson, et al. For the sake of the Country, just RETIRE and go away.

  3. SmithStCrx: Agree totally. The late lout Lautenberg led the charge for the permanent disbarment of the gun rights of people convicted of ANY crime of family violence (whether or not violence was part of the actual offense). This was a punitive measure against gun owners, which had nothing to do with a functional relationship to the bad behavior, but had a great tag line: family violence. May as well gut, roast, and serve Bambi.

And who’s NOT in favor of “violence against women”? Probably the same beasts who hate hate crime and other protections for the previously protected. It’s not just the Maverick and bitter old nun Arne. Granted, it’s a lot of people who we know know no better, but not too many “friends” stood up to it either.
