Fearless Predictions

I have a couple of predictions for you.

Prediction 1:  Polled To Death Take this to the bank:  sometime before July 1, the Strib will run another “Minnesota Poll” in re the shutdown.

The poll’s headlines will be within one rhetorical standard deviation of  “65% of Minnesotans Favor Compromise On Budget Impasse”.

The crosstabs, carefully buried, will show that DFLers are oversampled by 50%; those trying to investigate the faint whiff of metrocentrism in the polling will be frustrated by the absolute lack of crosstabs showing geography.

Prediction 2: Dead Silence – Despite the avalanche of evidence coming out of the state bureaucracy that Dayton is not only pushing for the shutdown, but actively trying to make it “hurt” as much as possible, there will be not one word on the subject from the Strib, WCCO, the PiPress, the KARE Bears (whose John Cronan is rapidly shaping up to be an Esme Murphy-grade stealth-DFL  propagandist), or MPR.

Place your bets.

Or make your own predictions, in the comment section.

  1. I predict that while Democrats will be unpopular, your conservative Republicans and Tea Partiers will continue to become far more unpopular.

Given the buyer’s remorse across the country that indicates voters regret voting for the right….it won’t matter if the STrib polls or not. The public opinion will continue to worsen whether they do or not.

Still waiting for the right to stop waging culture wars that you are losing, and start addressing the business they should have been working on from the first day of the legislative session.

  2. Given the buyer’s remorse across the country that indicates voters regret voting for the right
FACT CHECK!!! We need a FACT CHECK on this wild assumption!!!

  3. Given the buyer’s remorse across the country that indicates voters regret voting for the right….

FACT CHECK: There has been one poll on the issue so far – the SCOW election two months ago. Didn’t turn out so well for you.

Oh, and a special in NY State that a Tic won.

    You’re assuming again.

  4. Still waiting for the right to stop waging culture wars

Further proof that all your “facts” come from chanting points handed down to you by your superiors.

Because the social right has spent the last two years complaining that the movement hasn’t started waging the culture war. We’ve been focused largely on economics.

Which is where we’re going to stay. Because we win the issue.

  5. Doggy Doo Doo;

I just came into my office after visiting a construction site where I sponsored a coffee break for twelve UNION workers to discuss job progress. During the course of the discussion, the subject of the state inspector not showing up on time if there is a shutdown and the related issues that this would cause, came up. Judging by the responses from these guys, I would tell you that you are, again, full of crap!

If you want to “Fact Check” me, I’ll be happy to give you the address and you can go ask them yourself! Of course, that’s if your elitist ego would allow you to interact with the common people!

Well, we know that will be your “reality”, regardless of what actually comes to pass.

  7. My alarm clock radio is tuned to MPR (hey, one could do worse than wake up with Cathy Wurzer cooing in your ear), and it seems like every morning lately I wake up to some sob story about how tough the shutdown would be on (fill in your favorite state worker here.)

I’d like to see someone total up the number of sob stories vs. the number of stories on just where the money goes and whether or not we can afford to just raise the budget up and up and up and up and up forever and ever amen.

I bet sob story wins in a Reaganesque landslide.

  8. I’m refreshed that Dog Gone didn’t use this comment space for an unrelated to the topic attack on a person of color who also happens to be Conservative or their spouse, regardless of their color. A nice change.
Based on at least the broadcast news reports I’ve seen, the government shut down victim packages are on ready status along with Abe Vigoda’s obituary package. So far, I’ve seen reports from the state park hiker who won’t be able to take a hike (in a state park), the state worker who just got diagnosed with cancer who’s not sure whether or not he will be treated if the government shut down occurs (he will be) and a piece on how those evul Wepubwicans just won’t make Minnesocold #1 in one more category, tax rates on high income individuals (not ‘wealthy’ people like our Governor).
So, to echo Loren, the house edge is great enough to consider this not to be considered gambling.

  9. f course, that’s if your elitist ego would allow you to interact with the common people!

Being Penigma staff, they’ll just consult with their neighbors, the construction workers. Who live between the Tier 1 law professor (who practices IP, Media AND health care law!) and the cop, across the alley from the doctor and the Nobel-winning economist. None of whom can be quoted on the record, naturally, because their prominence in their fields require them to protect their identities.

  10. “…reports from the state park hiker who won’t be able to take a hike (in a state park),”

Why? Can someone answer why a government shut down would prevent you from hiking on public land?

  11. At least we can take comfort in the MNSCU system will retain full funding in the event of a partial shut down. Dayton has to take care of his masters at Education Minnesota, AFSCME and MAPE.

  12. Being Penigma staff, they’ll just consult with their neighbors, the construction workers. Who live between the Tier 1 law professor (who practices IP, Media AND health care law!) and the cop, across the alley from the doctor and the Nobel-winning economist.

All of whom live on the Colonic Parkway.

You can walk, but the parking lot and campground will be closed.

  14. You can walk, but the parking lot and campground will be closed.

Depends on the specific facility. If there is no gate, there just won’t be anyone at the “guard shack” to collect your money. I’d have no compunction about driving into a “closed” state park that wasn’t PHYSICALLY closed with a gate or chain, but was merely unstaffed.

Likewise, there won’t be anyone to clean the restrooms or restock the toilet paper, so bring your own TP, soap and nose plugs.

  15. Bill, nearly every aspect of life in Minnesota is regulated. I’d be willing to bet there is a law against what you propose. It’s not the feet, it’s the car.

  16. Way to not credit me Speed, 😉 I was saying that before ANYONE (well almost anyone, Mitch) thought he’d breakdown.

  17. but the parking lot and campground will be closed

    Oh!!! THe Humanity!!!
