Psychology of MOBs

I made it to the MOB party last night – fashionably late, for a change!

These things are always a dizzying melange.  I always meet scads of interesting people.  Where to start?

  • Met JRoosh from Roosh Five, one of my favorite newer MOB blogs, who had his own account of the evening.
  • Most of the TvM crew was there – Gary, the Ringer (fully recovered from his car accident, or so it seemed), and of course Jeff Kouba, whom I believe I met for the first time.
  • The Lady Logician and the Logical Husband
  • Neal (Neil?) Krasnoff from Loyal Opposition.
  • Ben from Hammerschwing, who, I learned, is in seminary.
  • John from Policy Guy, who, last I saw, was hanging out with Erik “the Transit Geek” Hare.
  • Wog from Wog’s Blog, who’s counting down toward a liver transplant one of these days.
  • Lileks and the Giant Swede.
  • The whole crew from Freedom Dogs – Derek, Lassie, Guy, Jonez and Pinkmon Diamond Dog
  • Brad Carlson and his wife Jennifer, who took plenty o’pictures
  • An ailing but ebullient Joe Tucci
  • Night Writer – really the First Familiy of Minnesota blogging, with Mall Diva, Tiger Lilly, and their small crowd of devotees.  The Writer had an account of the evening, by the way, including a photo of me, captioned: “The Reverend Mother spent part of the evening eavesdropping on Mitch Berg. “He’s really interesting,” she said. “Is there anything he doesn’t have an opinion on?” [Hm – come to think if it, probably not…] If so, we haven’t found it. I do know he likes Springsteen [ well, yeah] and, along with Strommie, the Mall Diva [Oh, Writer – I’m so not like Strom…].
  • Anti-Strib Tracy and his vastly better half.
  • Much less of Speed Gibson than I remember – congrats!
  • My neighbor John, from Crazy But Able (whom I’d nearly run down on my bike on Friday while he was walking with his wife and baby around Como) who captured the event with a lot of photos – which are, amazingly, very good.
  • My other neighbor, Flash, from Centrisity
  • Dan, the Northern Alliance Wannabe
  • King
  • Michael
  • Bob Davis and Sarah Janecek over at the radio table.
  • AAA and…Carrie?  Keri?  Caray?  Anyway, Andy bought me a drink, so there’ll be nothing but favorable reviews of his presence.  Andy reviewed the event, throwing down on the mostly-absent Fraters…
  • …who did, in fact, send Atomizer and the Atomizerette to represent.
  • Eva Young, who does a lot less name-calling in person than on her blogs.
  • Joel and Mrs. Rossennbeerrgg Rosenberg.
  • Doug was there, too…

I know I’m missing some.  Cue me in!

And I can hardly wait for the next one!

UPDATE:  Gotcha, Joel.  Got Doug Bass, too.

Of course, I need to shout out to the ones everyone missed; Katie from Yucky Salad, Cathy from the Wright, Jordan and Mark, the Fraters, the Powerguys, Swiftee, Yossarian, Doug Williams, Steve Gigl, Jay Reding…

But it’s summer.  We’re happy anyone at all takes such a gorgeous evening and comes out.

  1. I wish I could have attended, but my lovely wife and I were flying back from Williamsberg, VA after spending a week celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We got so much history even I was nearly satisfied. I have to show you the picture I got of the USS Cole from the harbor in Norfolk. Port side, good as new. I can’t think of a better FU to send the bad guys.

  2. *sigh*

Babysat Melissa’s niece all weekend. Oh for the days of Mel living in the Cities. Things were much more awesome then.

  3. I was very unfashionably late, but I met Mitch and some other nice folks and generally had a good time. 🙂

I can think of a couple: Killing bin Laden, stabilizing Iraq. Those would be pretty good FU’s. But I guess you Republicans take your wins where you can find ’em these days.

“The U.S. government can fix a boat. Woohoo!”

  6. Angryclown was at Keegan’s, but in disguise. Thanks for all the free drinks, guys. But I coulda done without Troy touching my ass and pretending it was a mistake. Five times.

  7. Killing bin Laden

Right. Because the war would end immediately if that happened.

    stabilizing Iraq

That’d be the “surge” you might have been reading about lately.

  8. AC is right. A better FU would be Bush and Cheney hiding in a cave in Tora Bora.
He and Keith Ellison would hit it off famously.

  9. I can think of a better one, Kermit — I liked that idea to rebuild the WTC with five towers, the outer four the same height, the middle one twice as tall.

    But that’s just me.

I think I spotted ac there — there was the ill-smelling fellow who stumbled into the alley, drunk, from the street, apparently looking for a place to urinate, then thought better of it and left.

  10. That gives entirely new meaning to the phrase “A little song, a little dance, a little ‘seltzer’ down your pants”.

  11. Found out pretty late, but we were actually in town… hosting family for the boy’s 1st birthday party. In other words, my streak of outstanding timing continues!

  12. I missed the party, but for a very good reason.

I’ve been hired to clean out a particularly fetid nest of barking moonbats in an undisclosed, out of state location. There is only so much swiftee to go around and as always, when it comes to strafing moonbats, duty comes before pleasure.

  13. It is a pity though, not to have been able to have Eva autograph a couple of “Life in the Dumpster” cartoon panels.

  14. Oh wingnuts, you’ll be glad to know they cleaned up the WTC site really nice too, though they still find bone fragments every now and then. Guess you’d count that a nice big FU to the bad guys. You know, considering your guy can’t kill the man responsible, hobble his organization or win in Iraq.

  15. Angryclown suggested: “Killing bin Laden”

Mitch mewled: “Right. Because the war would end immediately if that happened.”

In late 2001 Angryclown figured the one upside of having a nasty right-wing administration is that they’d at least dispatch the kooks responsible for murdering 2000 American civilians to hell at the earliest opportunity. Who’da thunk bin Laden and Mullah Omar would survive the Bush residency? Good to hear it’s not something that particularly concerns you Bush dead-enders.

Hey look, the Cole’s patched up!

  16. Not just patched up. It and all Navy vessels at dock have a defense cordon now. Get within a hundred yards by boat and an automatic firing system will send a thousand rounds a minute into your explosive filled rubber raft.

  17. *Ben Stein voice*
    Bin Laden? Bin Laden?
    */Stein*

Has anyone seen or heard anything from OSL since, what, 2004? Nothing from the hole in the ground he’s either hiding or mouldering in? I’m pretty sure I didn’t see him at the MOB party (now there’s a great subject for a comment thread), but I’ll review the photos again to see if he’s there in background somewhere.

  18. A typo by my girl, Yossarian. She’s been sacked.

Dunno, Night Wanker. Seems like bin Laden puts out more videos than Britney these days. Plus I don’t think Bush deserves a lot of credit if Osama dropped dead of old age waiting for the U.S. to do something.

  19. angryclown said “I don’t think Bush deserves a lot of credit” and he could have stopped right there.

  20. Doug was there, too…

Oh, you mean Doug from Bogus Gold. Initially I thought you were talking about frequent commenter VVA Doug.
