A Little Soggy

By Mitch Berg

Governor Klink, Melissa Hortman and the Urban DFL clacque squandered a $19 billion surplus paying off the DFL’s special interests, and all we got was a broken dam.

Unexpectedly? No. Not a bit. The century-old Rapidan Dam on the Blue Earth River – a tributary to the Minnesota, and eventually the Mississippi – has been a problem for a long time.

And everyone who gave a, er, damn knew it:

In 2021, a study was conducted that identified two feasible solutions for the dam’s state of disrepair: repair or remove the dam. Both options have significant costs, and each has its opportunities, trade-offs, and timeframes. The purpose of the Future of Rapidan Dam project is to identify the community’s needs and concerns and use their input on the options to help the County make the best decision for all impacted by the Dam’s future.

You can’t buy any urban non-profit allegiances with a dam. You sure can’t carry a dam in a suitcase to Kenya.

It’s bad.

If there’s a better way of depicting the results of the DFL’s priorities, I’m open to suggestions.

In Kommandant Klink’s own words; “that’s just rocks and cows country”. Translation: who cares about those people.

Just rocks and cows country, until a few miles downstream, where all that water can inundate Mankato, and then make things fun up in the Twin Cities as well.

Really, this is what happens when you have leaders that forget how “public goods” are defined, economically speaking, and choose to buy votes instead. The real purpose of government is lost, and then public goods get neglected. Hopefully there will be heck to pay for this among the electorate.

Oh, bubba, if/when Mankato floods, Walz can visit, look appropriately sad, and blame Republicans. That dam will be long forgotten by then.

    jdm,
He’s doing a flyover tomorrow, because he’s scared shitless to face those people. They would tear his ass up over his alleged infrastructure spending and he’s too big a coward to face that!

JDM, true. It’s also a very bad sign that debris is blocking a good portion of what ought to be the spillways. Suffice it to say that that will not mitigate stress on the structure.
