Throwback
By Mitch Berg
It’s come up on the blog before – I wasn’t a big Jimmy Carter fan. The consequences of Carter’s one term in office played a disproportionate role in my becoming a conservative in the first place.
He’s garnered a lot of hagiography for his philanthropic work over the past 40 years or so – and earned a few brickbats for his dingbat contributions to foreign policy. Like President, lie Ex-President.
But there’s a throwback aspect to Carter that we could use more of; the idea that political opponents weren’t entirely sub-human.
The family of his late wife Rosalynn did something I can’t imagine a lot of Democrats, and even a few Republicans, doing today:
I’ve most certainly gotten cynical over the years. I’m not alone – the funerals of Paul Wellstone and George Floyd certainly set the bar for public funerals, and set it very, very low.
I’m glad to see someone can still get over it.

Of course, to show their independence and free-thinking, lots of DemoCommies complained about that gray coat.

This reminds me of a story I heard long ago. There was some event where Jimmy Carter, as President, was at as well as other ex-Presidents. People were shunning Richard Nixon. Carter noticing this, went over an welcomed Nixon more into the crowd and visited specifically with him for a while.
It also reminds me of Mike Pence’s answer in the debate with Harris. A school kid sent in the question “Why don’t you all get along?” Pence responded that while they do have their differences and the media exploits that, the majority of elected officials are friends “off screen.” He further said they attend parties, shows, golf together, etc.
I think it might have become more hostile as of late, but there are still some good ones out there.

Jimmy Carter: wonderful man, horrible politician.
Donald Trump: horrible man, wonderful politician.

I was surprised to hear that Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sang John Lennon’s “Imagine” at Rosalynn’s funeral service.
“Imagine there’s no Heaven…”? I can’t see Jimmy or the late Rosalynn countenancing that.

Every time I see a picture of Michelle Obama she has a sulky scowl on her face. I guess that is her ‘resting face’. This picture is no exception. Look at the way she is staring at Melania in front of her. She seems to be a very unhappy, very unpleasant person even though she and Obama are rich, entitled and part of the elite’s elite.

Night Writer I heard a little of that on a radio report and agree with you 100%.
