Make Those Trains Run On Time

By Mitch Berg

Democrats warned me that if we voted GOP, we’d have fascism in the US.

And they were right:

Last Friday, New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, announced a 30-day ban on the right to carry open or concealed firearms in public. She and the state health secretary, Patrick Allen, declared, “Gun violence and drug abuse currently constitute statewide public health emergencies,” and that provided sufficient justification for the governor to repeal the concealed-carry law, first passed in 2001, as well as the state’s open-carry law.

In New Mexico, about 46 percent of adults have at least one gun in their home.

The New Mexico state legislature is not under fire, missing, or incapable of performing its duties. It adjourned on March 18, and is scheduled to begin its next session January 16, 2024. The state legislature meets for a 60-day regular session in odd-numbered years, and for a 30-day regular session in even-numbered years. The governor can call a special session to deal with emergency legislation that needs attention before the next regular session; the state legislature can also declare its own “extraordinary session” and meet outside of the normal session, if three-fifths of each chamber agrees.

No Democrat can be allowed to live this down.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney has told the readers of The Atlantic, who are mostly democrats who want to repeal the 2nd amendment and ignore the 1st amendment, that a large part of the GOP doesn’t believe in the constitution

It’s pretty interesting how little support that Lujan Grisham decision has. I mean, none (?) of NM sheriffs, nor the affected police chief, and, if I remember right, not even the state police upon which she was depending for enforcement. But also both David Hogg and Ted Leiu (sp?) spoke out against it; as did Lujan’s own AG.

Her reaction has been to ignore reality, a pretty standard reaction among modern DemoCommies.

    jdm.
To your point, I’ve said this before, but I’ll never stop repeating it. These DemoCommie party apparatchiks have no problem with gun bans and/or confiscation laws, because they know they don’t have to put their lives at risk to enforce them.

  4. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

The emerging consensus is there is no Public Health Emergency exception to the 2nd Amendment, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. Good to know.

Is there a Public Health Emergency exception to the 1st Amendment, which guarantees the right to religious worship? Walz suspended that right by forbidding worship services and funerals. Should he have?

Is there a Public Health Emergency exception to the 14th Amendment, which guaratees Equal Protection under the law? Walz suspended that right by forbidding “non-essential” businesses from opening (except his donor buddy, he got to stay open). Was that within his power as governor?

What other Constitutionally protected rights are subject to a Public Health Emergency exception? Could Walz claim illegal aliens carry tuberculosis and order them expelled? Could Walz claim gangsters shooting up the streets pose a public health risk and impose a lockdown on Black youth only, as a precautionary measure? Could Walz claim Jews engage in unfair and unscrupulous business practices which leave Christians unable to pay their hospital bills, and therefore everything owned by Jews is forfeit to the state?

What are the limits for state governors declaring exceptions to the Constitution?

And how come nobody noticed these exceptions during earlier emergencies, such as the 1919 Spanish Flu? Do we honestly believe we’re that much smarter than they were, despite endless studies showing American average IQ is actually dropping?

  5. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

There is a new and deadly variation of Covid
The variant is causing a surge of cases and hospitalizations
Experts agree the surge will continue through the election
    Infected/exposed persons will be quarantined/hospitalized
Infected/exposed persons will not be able to vote
Denying people the opportunity to vote deprives them of a fundamental right
Denying the right to vote violates the Voting Rights Act
When some cannot participate, it threatens Our Precious Democracy
We cannot hold a partial election, that would be unjust
We must postpone the election until all can participate
By executive order, a public health emergency is declared
By executive order, the election is postponed indefinitely
All office holders shall continue in office until the election can be safely held
Anyone who objects is attempting to overthrow the government
Just like the January 6th insurrectionists
And must be punished severely, because
Sometimes you have to destroy a democracy in order to save it

  6. bosshoss429 Says:

    Bigman,
New Mexico’s own constitution prohibits her actions and makes no exceptions.

I’ve got to give credit to CNN’s Poppy Montgomery for hammering Grisham on that issue. I’m sure that she’s already back into left wing propaganda mode.

Grisham has also been caught using $15,000 in taxpayer funds to buy jewelry, groceries and other personal items.

  7. Greg Says:

    jdm, I disagree.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has a lot of support and she knows it.

She enjoys the overwhelming support of the Karens who rule and run the Democratic Party.

She also has the overwhelming support of the Gen Z activists who will rush to mail in their ballots as early as possible.

Can you name a better base of support to become VP once the party ditches Camel-toe?

Can you name a better base of support to balance the Gavin Newsom presidential ticket?

The chick knows precisely what she is doing.

  8. Greg Says:

Oh, did I fail to mention that Michelle “Lujan” Grisham’s father was Hispanic? Therefore, she checks the woman of color box.

She will slide quite nicely into the slot soon to be vacated by Camel-toe.

  9. jdm Says:

You may be right, Greg, but your support is a supposition ( a reasonable one, I’ll admit), but my comments was based on real statements.

  10. bikebubba Says:

I’m thinking that what Grisham is doing is not to actually do anything now, but to see if she can move that Overton Window. Might have backfired spectacularly, which is great.

  11. Greg Says:

but my comments was based on real statements – jdm

    No argument there.

My aim was to provide a political dimension to what otherwise would appear to be an irrational action.

Note: Grisham was on the short-list to be VP in 2020.

Grisham knows quite well that it is the Karens who dominate the party caucuses and show up in numbers on primary day.

What is also vital to the Democrats is that the once reliable Hispanic vote is becoming increasingly shaky and requires shoring up.

    Her heritage would do that.

It was a well-thought out move.

One opposed by the Extreme Right-Wing MAGA Gun Nuts. What could play better to her target constituency?

    Think of the children.

  12. Greg Says:

    bikebubba,

If one takes the position that she is pushing the gun-control agenda, then the blowback might be a big deal – though it does rally the Karen troops – which could be an end in itself.

However, if this is a personal political gambit, given the publicity, it is an out of the park homerun.

  13. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

“New Mexico’s own constitution prohibits her actions and makes no exceptions.”

Interesting. New Mexico’s State Constitution, Article II, Section 6, provides: “No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.”

The Governor says she’s not violating the Constitution, she’s only temporarily suspending the carrying of concealed weapons, which is explicitly excluded from protection under the state Constitution. It’s not a completely unreasonable reading of their law.

Walz would have an easier time of it. Minnesota’s State Constitution does not protect the right to bear arms. A proposed Constitutional Amendment to add it was offered a decade ago and died in the legislature.

  14. Emery Says:

Romney’s party left him. But still he manages a parting shot at Biden over the age thing, by practicing what he is preaching. What a shame it was Obama he was up against and not Hillary Clinton. He might have made for a pretty decent President.

I wish other members of Congress would follow his example. You know who you are. About 65% of the Senate is over the age of 60. And 35% are over the age of 70. Wisdom and experience deserve respect.

  15. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

For me, the most annoying part of the whole fiasco is the lack of connection between the Problem and the Solution. It’s a complete non-sequitur requiring the Leap of Faith for which Liberals are not generally known.

New Mexico Governor’s Executive Order 2023-130 explains why gun violence is a problem for society at large. She instructs state agencies to solve the problem.
The actual gun-ban order came from New Mexico Department of Health, Secretary Patrick Allen. He cities as his authority the Governor’s Exective Order 2023-130. Okay, maybe that’s a valid delegation of authority. But what is he authorized to do? Stop gun crime? How?

His solution is to ban both open carry and concealed carry in certain high crime areas. Is that the right solution?

New Mexico concealed carry requires a permit and class, just like Minnesota. Is there any evidence concealed carry permit holders are a significant part of the problem? If not, why are they included in the ban? Open carry requires no permit but again, is there any evidence that lawful open carry is a significant part of the problem?

I’d bet a brand-new nickel the problem is gang members possessing, carrying and shooting people with guns in violation of existing law. I’d bet another that nickel that law enforcement knows exactly who’s responsible but can’t go after them for political reasons (illegal aliens, Mexican nationals, Native Americans).

And therefore we get the non-sequitur, the Leap of Faith, that punishing law-abiding citizens will somehow deter criminals. It won’t. Everybody knows it. At least in New Mexico, they’re willing to say it. Good for them.

  16. Maga Mammuthus Primigenesis Says:

So much fun to see Romney given the “strange new respect” treatment.
Back in 2012 the dems and “unbiased” media accused Romney of bullying a queer classmate and abusing the family dog.

  17. justplainangry Says:

There you go with truth and facts, Big. Tsk, tsk, what about the feeeeeelings!?

  18. bosshoss429 Says:

    Greg,
I don’t think that any DemoCommie, regardless of nationality, can count on the votes of Hispanics. The same is true of blacks and Asians. These groups are leaning right, especially the ones that are paying attention.

Their main two issues are loss of buying power and rising crime. Coming up fast from third place, is the increases in crime.

  19. Greg Says:

    boss, I agree.

The Dems will probably still get the majority of the black and hispanic vote, but the margins are slipping – that is why they are focusing on the suburban Karen vote and the man-bun men who support them.

It is not an insignificant shift. The blue suburbs were once red.

    Because Trump scares them.

    Scary guns scare them.

    MAGA hats scare them.

    Pickup trucks scare them.

People get stupid when they get scared.

Hence the ridiculous gun ban. Stupid, illegal and unconstitutional governance. Brilliant politics.
