The Setup?

By Mitch Berg

The media’s been starting – juuuust starting – to get a little critical of The One.

The immigration debate?  Jobs For Congressmen?  Oil washing up on the media’s vacationing grounds?  When you have not only CNN and Brian Willians but also Chris Matthews and Jon Stewart tagging on him, it’s gotta be bad for The Anointed – doesn’t it?

Unless you remember the mainstream media’s prime directive – keep Obama and Democrats in office – it might seem that way.

Paranoid?  Well, Ed Driscoll and I are both on the same wavelength.

Assuming BP is able to get the oil spill in the Gulf plugged, how much of this is the media laying the groundwork for their “comeback kid” narrative to roll out…right around September or early October, and running to, oh at least, the first Tuesday in November — and possibly longer, depending upon the outcome on election night?

Who knows how the next months will play out, but it’s something to salt away for the future.

Best way to tell?  If the Media and left (ptr) find a squishy moderate-ish Republican to start building up – a la McCain and Huckabee – for later tearing down, you’ll know Ed’s onto something.

Don’t let The Media fool you, people! If they give good press to some non-extremist who actually stands a chance of getting elected, they’re just setting you up for a fall.

Remember: stay crazy! Palin-Hitler’s Reanimated Corpse ’12!

AC, you nearly caused me to have a beverage / keyboard accident from laughter!

Nice way to spin the message to move further right. Not sure the examples of either Huckabee, or McCain this go around qualify as moderate though. McCain especially seems to be trying to reinvent himself, flip flopping more than a fish out of water.

  3. Dog Gone Says:

I should have added – and just as desperate for his senate survival as that fish.

Right. All that Huckmentum musta gotten their attention.

    McCain this go around

This go around is of no importance whatsoever; he ceased to be of interest to the media after the election (and hence Mac has been able to move to the right, since he doesn’t have to try to kiss media butt to get ahead anymore).

The media spent the better part of a decade building up the moderate-right Mac as “the good Republican”, to the point where even some Dems (including a mutual acquaintance of the Clown and I) said “Mac is the one Republican I’d vote for”.

The very moment he became a presidential contender, the narrative spun 180; Mac was “an extreme conservative” (he with his ACU rating one point to the right of Jim Ramstad). His record hadn’t changed; his utility to the left had.

Thank God for the sippy cup.

  7. K-Rod Says:

A sippy cup full of victory gin and kool aid.

    Thread over. Swiftee wins.

  9. Mitch Berg Says:

    Swiftee wins.

My comment threads are all round-robin double-elimination.

  10. Kermit Says:

The Media is just trying to pretend that they don’t really want to influence politics. They’re objective reporters, I tells ya. That’s why they are honest about the thrill going down the leg.

True, but we’re all playing for second place after Swiftee’s offer.

Swiftee almost ruined his keyboard too, Dog Bone. Thank God for adult diapers!

  13. Kermit Says:

I think we just learned how Clownie keys his brilliant repartee.

Mitch, you should put that quote in a side-bar on your blog. Taken out of context as it is, it sums up AC beautifully.

  15. Scott Hughes Says:

“Yossarian Says: Taken out of context as it is, it sums up AC beautifully.”

    Well that Depends!

  16. Dog Gone Says:

The Maverick is trying desperately to reinvent himself, altering positions he held earlier until he is unrecognizable – and he still might lose. The only question is will it be the primary or the general election.

Whereas a recent poll shows that Palin is declining in popularity in her own state, and that fewer would vote for her for President than at any earlier time. I doubt she can help McCain or that McCain can help her.

No sippy cup, Swiftee, but you keep projecting that other people share your odd drinking habits. I’m sure that helps reduce your sense of alienation that drives your abrasiveness.

However switching to one of the travel mugs might not be a halfbad idea, while enjoying the out of doors. Gotta love the flexibility of wifi.

  17. Dog Gone Says:

Clever points / award of merit for Scott Hughes.

  18. Bill C Says:

Whereas a recent poll shows that Palin is declining in popularity in her own state, and that fewer would vote for her for President than at any earlier time

Given the voluminous amount of favorable press she’s received in the last two years, this is very surprising!

  19. Troy Says:

Who’s fixated on McCain or Palin? Oh yeah, the lefties.

Palin-Hitler? Wow, that’s really deranged. You are “special”, angryclown.

  20. K-Rod Says:

I suppose a travel mug holds more VG/KA, eh deegee.

  21. Ben Says:

tell me AC where has Palin blamed the Jooos for any of the country’s problem? Doesn’t your side tend to do that more? Nazi’s= National Socialist Party, don’t forget that.

  22. angryclown Says:

Nazis = extreme conservatism. Nationalist, nativist, militarist, opposed to “subversive” art. Claim to be the champions of traditional values. Look in the mirror, Bendover. You’ll see a sad little brown-shirt looking back at you.

  23. Troy Says:

    “Nazis = extreme conservatism”

Only in a world were repetition makes things true.

  24. Terry Says:

Angry Clown, you are a nut case. The Nazi’s believed in socialism in one country. Don’t try to make intelligent statements regarding politics, you are too stupid.

  25. angryclown Says:

Fortunately for Troy, he lives in a world where stupid makes things true.

  26. Kermit Says:

NAZI did NOT = extreme conservatism. They were radical, big government zealots who wanted to control every aspect of private citizens lives from cradle to the grave.
    Sound familiar?

  27. Terry Says:

If the Nazis were extreme conservatives they would have brought the Kaiser back from exile, restored the aristocracy, and championed the Church. Even by European standards Nazi’s weren’t conservatives.
Your side can’t tell shit from shinola, Angry Clown, that’s why you guys always fail.

  28. K-Rod Says:

    “Sound familiar?”

    Liberal Fascism, Obama style.
