Say It Isn’t So, Joe
By Mitch Berg
Colonel Joe Repya is planning on running against Norm Coleman in the primary.
Allow me to say: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.
Colonel Repya: Don’t. Run for State House; if I’m not mistaken, a DFLer grabbed your home district (stop me if I’m wrong), which will set you up nicely for a run for higher office. Or you could move to the Fourth, and run against the loathsome Betty McCollum.
But against Coleman? He’s far from the perfect conservative, but he’s WAY better than average.
Sorry, Joe. I can and will back you on a lot of crusades. But I gotta sit this one out.

“Say it isn’t so, Joe.”
Indeed. And might I add, to bring in another quote from a byegone era, “You haven’t seen anything, yet.”

Yeah, have to agree. Normie is pretty middle-of-the-road, but that is what we need in 2008 in Minnesota. I think a more traditional conservative would do well in congressional races, but I like the incumbant for Senate.

I read on Powerline (I think) that Ben Stein gave money to Franken! That’s very unsettling.

Powerline? Never heard of it. The Ben Stein story was an exclusive Fraters Libertas scoop.

By the way, I concur on Repya. Not the right fight at this time. Wouldn’t be prudent.

It’s important to note that the Repya is only CONTEMPLATING a run. The headline is misleading.
It would be interesting to find out what issues the Repya folks have with Coleman. The article doesn’t really get into that too much.
I know that Jason Lewis has mentioned three things:
1. Coleman’s opposition to drilling for oil in Alaska. The oil from ANWR could replace 100% of the oil we currently get from Saudi Arabia. Every time you pay through the nose at a gas pump, you can thank our U.S. Senate.
2. His support for Senate amnesty (“comprehensive solution”) for illegal aliens. It looks like they will be putting together another push for this bill in a couple weeks. This is one issue that could sink the Republicans in 2008 big time. I keep asking why don’t they just push for a REALLY comprehensive bill and simply declare everyone on planet Earth to be an American citizen.
3. His recent — very vocal and very idiotic — campaign to get the attorney general to resign over the federal prosecutor firings. This totally plays into the Democrat strategy of turning this non-issue into a national scandal. Is he even aware that Bill Clinton did the very same thing?
In the end, as long as he remains ahead in the polls, I’m afraid we are stuck with him. No one is going to throw Coleman overboard in favor of a no-name nothing especially with a well-funded opponent like Al Franken waiting in the wings.

He had to do the Alaska thing no matter if it only makes sense to pagen Earth worshippers, as he campaigned on this. If he would have voted to allow the exploration of oil (not even drilling), the DFL would have hammered that like Jay Benevov on his secretary. (okay, the analogy didn’t really work, but I like picking on Jay).
