The Distilled Genius Of Peggy Flanagan

By Mitch Berg

Rarely do we mere mortals share a time and space with a person like Peggy Flanagan.

A person who has led by example her entire public life – including her early turn on the Minneapolis School Board…:

…starting the Minneapolis Public Schools’ meteoric rise in achievement over the past 20 years, turning it into the beacon of exceptional learning that it is today.

Well, she’s not resting on her laurels:

Brilliant.

Know what else are taxes, Madame Lieutenant Goverrnor?

Taxes.

Like the ones your administration and legislative “trifecta” jacked up, statewide, after squandering a $18 Billion surplus, accelerating Minnesota’s slide to “below average” in gross product per capita.

She could be our next Senator.  Or Governor.  Or whatever the machine decides they want her to be.

So, I had to go look up this Flanagan person because I didn’t know anything about her… sheesh… her self-promotion may not be quite as imaginative as AOC or Mamdani, but she born and raised in St Louis Park. Her tireless (tiresome) story of Indian heritage is from her dad’s side but her name and activism comes from her mom, a DFL activist herself.

Flanagan’s tweet above includes this, I fought every day to make sure every kid got the education they deserved. Apparently they don’t deserve much as many of the tweet replies indicate.

Perfect example of First Order Thinking. If we impose a 10% tariff on Chinese widgets, then the price paid by the consumer must rise 10%, right? It’s just like a tax.

But what if the Chinese seller drops its price 10% to maintain sales volume? Then the price paid by the consumer does not rise. That is Second Order Thinking, taking onto account the dynamic relationship.

And what if the tariff convinces the manufacturer to move its plant to the United States and hire citizens to work there? With that extra income, the consumer can afford to buy the widget plus have dinner out. That’s Third Order Thinking, long term strategic thinking.

No Democrat politician is capable of it.

For Flanagan to brag about what she did to the Minneapolis schools reminds me of how Obama chose Arne Duncan from Chicago as his Secretary of Education–a guy who presided over a school district where the average reading level of graduates was 6th grade. Let’s be honest; MPS, especially on the north side, sucks. It’s like saying that one’s creation of a Spamwich on white bread entitles one to claim parity with Julia Child.
