How Every Conversation About “Fascism”, “Naziism” and “Racism” Should Go
By Mitch Berg
SCENE: Mitch BERG is whacking weeds along his alley. He doesn’t notice Avery LIBRELLE, who appears to be inspecting peoples recycling bins for inappropriate material.
LIBRELLE: Merg!
BERG: Oh, shiiiiiure as I live and breathe, it’s Aver…
LIBRELLE: Shut up. Republicans are the worst possible combination of Nazis, Fascists and slave-owning Confederate traitors!
BERG: You don’t say.
LIBRELLE: I do – and so does America’s best governor and fun uncle, Tim Walz!
BERG: Huh. So you’re saying a populist utopian movement that builds itself around a central mythology, that relentlessly sorts society into “in” and “out” groups, that co-opts or destroys the societal institutions to consolidate and uphold its power, that requires enemies either internal or external to divert attention away from the problems they cause, and tolerates, and even glorifies and fetishizes violence to intimidate and subdue opposition, is Fascist?
LIBRELLE: Yep!
BERG: Right. And a “fascist” movement that obsesses over race to the point that it’s their fundamental motivation, screening mechanism and call to action resembles Naziism?
LIBRELLE: Uh, yeah!
BERG: Huh. And a movement that exists within our Federalist system, but ignores or actively denigrates the parts of that system that inconveniences its pursuit of its political goals, and exists mainly to uphold the wealth and power of its key stakeholders, resembles the Confederacy?
LIBRELLE: Er…yes. And why do you put all the links in when you talk? That’s just #weird.
BERG: So…sorting and denigration…
LIBRELLE: (Plugs ears, runs away) Nananananana can’t hear you….
BERG: (sotto voce) Oh, I think you can.
And SCENE.

My brother-in-law is like that. He is a retired union firefighter who spends all day listening to MSNBC and then wants to tell me how bad Trump is because he said p**** and how bad Vance is because he’s a hillbilly.
I have to clench my teeth to keep from telling him “Look dummy, It doesn’t matter who the republicans nominate because democrats will automatically label them literally Hitler and the fascist threat to democracy. There’s no person on earth who could receive your vote as a Republican because you disagree with the Republican party platform and the individuals are simply Convenient targets for your 2 minute hate. Keep your opinions to yourself, I am tired of hearing them. ”
But I don’t because it would cause a ruckus with the family.

Amen to that. I never pronounce my political leanings to friendly acquaintances, or even to some family, all because of the never-ending hyperbole created mainly by political pundits, and supported by the majority of the media. (Damn….that was alliterative. And I didn’t even try….)
Anyways, my point being is that the left leaning party’s biggest ignorance is the hubris of thinking that everyone in the US agrees with their policies. So they feel free spouting off without any repercussions.
Example: my neighbor, after the 2020 election, told me that she could not believe that so many people voted for Trump. Her reasoning for his popularity was that “there’s so much hate” on the right. 3 weeks ago, after the assassination attempt, she says to me (with her teenage son present) “where’s Lee Harvey when you need him?”
No accountability. I just stay quiet and cast my vote…….
