I’m Old Enough To Remember…

…when those 87,000 new IRS agents were “only going to go after rich tax cheats“.

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service today issued Notice 2023-13, which contains a proposed revenue procedure that would establish the Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement (SITCA) program, a voluntary tip reporting program between the IRS and employers in various service industries. The IRS is issuing this guidance in proposed form to provide an opportunity for public comment.

The proposed SITCA program is designed to take advantage of advancements in point-of-sale, time and attendance systems, and electronic payment settlement methods to improve tip reporting compliance. The proposed program would also decrease taxpayer and IRS administrative burdens and provide more transparency and certainty to taxpayers. The proposed program includes several features:

Politicians lie. It’s a fact that was building careers for editorialists, humorists and satirists since long before it made WIll Rogers a well-known man.

But today’s Democrats seem to be counting on, not just gullibility, but active willful ignorance, on a titanic scale.

  1. Dems to their loyal subjects:

Flounder, you can’t spend your whole life worrying about your mistakes! You fucked up… you trusted us! Hey, make the best of it! Maybe we can help.

Will they learn? Not a chance.

  2. “only going to go after rich tax cheats“.

Which part of this is a lie? Just look at AOC.

  3. The US has one of the most convoluted and ineffective tax codes with so many exemptions for those with the money to take advantage of them. Hence the massive accountancy industry and the pathetically low effective rates paid by the renter class and corporations. You don’t fix Kafka’s castle by adding more desks.

I would like to see the US go a step further and take the revenue side recommendation of Bowles-Simpson which advocated wholesale simplification of the tax code and elimination of loopholes and special treatments. The report reckoned the US could lower the tax rate and still collect more so if Biden left rates unchanged the increased revenue would be substantial.

  4. Emery,
what happened, did you finally answer this question?

At what point in your mother’s pregnancy with you would it have become unacceptable for her to abort you?

  5. One guy here is worried about loopholes and exemptions while #FJB’s IRS is now going after grandma selling personal collectibles and handiwork on ebay and Marketplace if she makes over $600. 1099s for everyone! now.

  6. But today’s Democrats seem to be counting on, not just gullibility, but active willful ignorance, on a titanic scale

Oh, I think they’re beyond “counting on” which implies a tiny bit of doubt; I think they *know* their voters are both gullible and willfully ignorant. The last three years have provided all the proof needed.

The DemoCommies can create any policy that makes life difficult for all with no benefit whatsoever (eg, the gas stove kerfuffle is back) and the Emery ilk will complain about Trump. Or Republicans. Or white people. Or racism. Or sexism. Or Putin. Or January 6. Or global warming, cooling, climate change. Or cow farts. Or a new strain of Covid. Or rich people. Rich white people. Rich white people with guns… it never fucking ends…

  7. You don’t fix Kafka’s castle by adding more desks.

This is how you know a nitwit has stumbled across something he doesn’t understand, but has concluded sounds teh smert; paste in an esoteric quote, apropos of fucking nothing.

    lol…what a pathetic muppet

  8. ^ Yes. Reminds me of Bart Simpson, “I am so smart, I am so smart, s-m-r-t, I am so smart…”

  9. why do we have a tax code at all
    why bother with taxes
we are no longer bound by old fashioned economics

lesko brandon’s modern monetary theory says the government can spend as much as it likes without regard to budgets, increase the debt endlessly without regard to repayment, promise to give anybody everything without sacrificing anything at all

we don’t even need to pay for paper and ink to print more money
we just digitally enter it into their bank account

which makes me wonder: if we don’t need a balanced budget, then we don’t need an income to balance outgo, so why bother with taxes at all?

unless the purpose of taxes in the lesko brandon is no longer to raise revenue but is now the means to punish behavior he does not like, with tax breaks/incentives/subsidies to reward behavior he does like, all without regard to the monetary outcome

in which case I feel no hesitation to lie and cheat and steal from the government as much as I can, since they are doing it to me

damn, I just became a somali

  10. A mandatory digital currency is coming. This currency will allow the feds to trace every penny that changes hands.

  11. Yea, the DemoCommies have been lying to us peasants about “revenuers” since they created the IRS. They will only be going after rich people.

  12. speaking of government lies and somalis

    just flew back from phoenix
the rental car process at sky harbor is a breeze
well signed, intuitive, easy for codgers to understand

the tsa security lines are a disaster
they’ve had 20 years to figure it out but still can’t make it work smoothly
take off your shoes in this line for the arch but not in that line for the arms up
put your laptop and kindle in a separate tray from your shoes
and your jacket in a separate tray from your backpack
and your belt in a separate tray with your pocket change
or maybe not if the lines are backed up and the agents change the rules
or you’re flying from terminal 2 instead of terminal 1
with agents yelling instructions and people grumbling and kids whining in a concrete echo chamber that’s hell on old folks hearing

why can’t they pick one set of rules, print up big-ass signs, send an email with every airline ticket purchased, so i know the rules in advance

it has been this way since 9/11 when the government promised us TSA would be staffed with anti-terrorist specialists, crack FBI agents keeping us safe, Ephram Zimbalist Junior in every line keeping watch for dangerous Arabs. Instead we got Somali immigrants without high school diplomas with fractured English and DMV attitudes.

i wonder why John Kerry doesn’t complain? Or Mayor Pete? Could it be they don’t fly commercial so they don’t have to put up with the kabuki theater?

i suppose some RINO will chime in to remind me that with “freedom of travel” being such an 18th century concept having no relevence in modern society, we’re lucky they “let” us fly at all.

  13. Huh, moderation. Try again with changes:

  14. “Doesn’t appear to be politically motivated” = Negro wants dat cash and sail foam

  15. “Two men shot, wounded inside Uptown restaurant
Thursday’s shooting was the second on Uptown’s 1300 Lagoon block in the last four months. ”

“The area around Hennepin and Lagoon has been in flux in recent years. Several restaurants have closed, including the Uptown Tavern & Rooftop, Cowboy Slim’s, Williams Pub, the Pourhouse Uptown and Stella’s Fish Café & Prestige Oyster Bar.”

    “In flux”….

    Tee hee

  16. Regarding the IRS coming after the middle class and poor, they’re easier targets who don’t hire the good accountants and lawyers to make the IRS’s job harder. Pretty self-explanatory if your promotion path in the IRS depends on the number of scalps on your coup stick, no?

It’s also worth noting that when the 16th Amendment was passed, the promise was that only the very rich would pay the 2% tax they had then. Surprise, surprise, the story changed when they wanted revenue. So this is about as shocking as finding manure in a feedlot.

  17. ^ You know, it seems to me that city people don’t deserve these nice restaurants because they can’t take care of them.

  18. Bikebubble offered: “Surprise, surprise, the story changed ‘

    See also: “Slava Ukraini!!!’ 🤡

  19. Kremlin Tom offered: “surprise, surprise, the story changed.”

See also “No, Russia didn’t start the war in Ukraine”, which Putina recently claimed. Seems the easiest way to detect nonsense out there is “does it come from Kremlin-endorsed sources?”, right along with “does it come from Swiftee?”, but I repeat myself.

Slava Ukraini, and Putina delenda est!

  20. Bikebubble, I pray that our billions of $ buys your grandkids not only the opportunity to get cut rate gender change ops in Kyiv, but the luck not to get snatched up and disappeared while they are there.

    ❤ Caring

  21. Swiftee, it is my prayer that your hero Putina quickly gets sent to his dacha in San Francisco Bay so that he stops murdering thousands of innocent Ukrainian, Moldovan, Georgian, Chechen, Syrian, and other children.

Good (*)&)(*& grief, Swiftee. You have no real objection to the murder and deportation of thousands of innocents and the pillaging of the livelihoods of millions because of…tolerance for homosexuals and transsexuals? You’ve got your morals backwards. I’m no fan of homosexuality or gender transition, but I’m not saying we ought to nuke the entire West Coast because of the Castro district of San Francisco. And that is, really, about what you’re saying.

  22. One obvious lesson of the fall of the USSR and the rise of Putin is that the Soviet Union was not a nation-state with a supporting intelligence service, it was an intelligence service with a supporting nation-state.
Couldn’t happen here in the good ol’ USA, right?
Since 9/11 the FBI, which to that point had a fairly narrow jurisdiction, restyled itself as a domestic intelligence agency. Even then, in the early days of the GWOT, it’s jurisdiction was de facto limited to a religious minority (Muslims), usually foreign born Muslims.
As time passed it began to see its focus as an intelligence agency shift to “white supremacists, and “anti-government agitators,” even outspoken parents at school board meetings. These represent, depending on the definition you want to use, maybe 30% of native born American citizens, including a sizeable number of legislators & one president.
Politicians come & go, but the Firm exists forever. It is arguable that the FBI & is not the tool of the democrats, but that the opposite is true: The Democrats are the tool of the FBI.

  23. UMMP, that’s a really scary thought. Reminds me of investigating the John Birch Society about 20 years back, and two things stopped me. First, Welch’s notion that one’s particular religious principles didn’t matter, and second, the notion that people could and would mount such a conspiracy. But the second notion is getting harder for me to discard these days. It is as if Mario Puzo is writing history.

And that makes a big boost to the IRS even scarier. I guess the bright side is that it theoretically gives more chances for someone to come clean with the conspiracy.

Dull Blade, there are degrees of depravity, and trying to resurrect the reign of Joseph Stalin is pretty much at the top. Start there.

And of course, Putina delenda est!

  24. The United States crushed the only viable chance to end Stalin’s reign; not once, but twice…after understanding there are no innocents, move on to there.

  25. speaking of political lies . . .

  26. too weird – just can’t get through moderation no matter how many revisions I make

    is it the word: big-ass

  27. “Democracy on the agenda as Biden meets Brazil’s Lula at the White House” I wonder if they will chat about “strengthening democracy” before or after they discuss how best to put your political opponents in jail?

  28. Taking concrete measures on low-hanging fruit such as environmental issues, tackling far-right extremism, and some trade/economic issues would continue the positive momentum between the two countries and would be a very positive outcome of this meeting.

Other issues such as Ukraine and Bolsonaro can be subject of ancillary discussions but shouldn’t be a focus.

  29. Lol…now look: rAT is an expert in foreign diplomacy🤪

Is there *anything* rAT isn’t an expert with?

    Hahaha!

  30. Bigman, since I had heretofore spent a significant portion of my life traveling, I had concluded that the chaos and degradation of the TSA gauntlet was some alphabet directorate’s zietsetzung aimed at demoralizing me personally, therefore limiting the reach of my anti-regime activities.

Since, some three years ago, I had succumbed to the mental torture and given up flying altogether, I’d have thought they would have lightened up on y’all by now.

But you say airport security is as degrading and chaotic as ever? Huh.

I guess it’s just as likely the TSA is nothing more sinister than yet another colossal neo-con cluster fuck that has taken on a life of it’s own.
