Nullification

Most Illinois counties say they will refuse to enforce Governor Pritzker’s unconstitutional “assault weapon” ban:

Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe wrote in a statement that part of his duty is to protect the right to keep and bear arms.

“The right to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty, and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people,” Boewe wrote. “Therefore, as the custodian of the jail and chief law enforcement officer for Edwards County, that neither myself or my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State, nor will we be arresting or housing individuals that have been charged solely with noncompliance of this act.”

The statement was drafted by Illinois Sheriffs’ Association Executive Director Jim Kaitschuk, according to ABC News, and sent out to sheriff’s departments to use or make edits if desired.

DuPage, Sangamon, and Iroquois counties are among the 74 departments that have released similarly modified statements. Iroquois County Sheriff Clinton Perzee said he would not use his jails to detain people exercising their civil rights, according to the Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Just your periodic reminder that, outside America’s moldy blue core cities, gun control is largely dead.

Largely .

Like the villain in “Scream”, it will keep bouncing back until we finally cut the head off.

  1. I grew up in NW Indiana, and the constant theme we saw on TV was the battle between Chicago and the rest of Illinois. This does not surprise me at all, though it does surprise me that the ban was enacted in the first place. If the GOP plays their cards right, this could generate an opening for them in state elections.

My mom was from Springfield where the capitol is. Just like this state, the Communists control a couple of the larger cities, but out state is predominantly Republican.

  3. This is the political elites acting under their imaginary constitution.
They pass laws knowing that they are very likely to be ruled unconstitutional, and try to enforce them until the law works its way to the SC.

  4. The UofI is in Champaign. This is what happens when you allow college students to vote while attending school.

Nitwits fuck it up for permanent residents.

  6. I note that stories reporting that Pritzker intends to fire LEOs that refuse to enforce the law have tapered off…..

  7. Good to see Whiteside County in green on the map. My g-g-grandfather and his 2 brothers signed up in 1861 WITH THEIR RIFLES to join the 34th Illinois and go fight to free the slaves. The 34th Illinois was known as the Rock River Rifles and fought from hell of Shiloh, was the first unit hit at the Battle of Stones River, and led the charge on Cheatham’s Hill at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. After serving three years my boys RE-ENLISTED to put their lives on the line thru the end of the war.

So given that spirit what does the foolish governor think their descendants will do? Roll over and submit?

  8. Ain’t you proud to see what has become of your ancestors patriotism, passout?

When forced, roll over and submit is exactly and precisely what 99% of their descendants will do.

  9. Whistler, Sheriff’s do jot serve at the pleasure of the Governor. They are also the ultimate LE authority in their respective counties, superseding even the state troopers.

    This didn’t happen overnight.

Beware of billionaire philanthropists. They set up these so-called “altruistic” foundations, and if you look at them closely, the foundation helps imaginary people (people who don’t exist but hypothetically populate the future) while harming actual living people, all the while enhancing the billionaire’s actual wealth, power, and influence.
