… I had completely given up on the Catholic Church ever actually enforcing it’s doctrine with regard to most progressive causes, including abortion.
So my jaw may have dropped just a little when I saw that archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, has apparently barred the speaker of the house from communion, more for wrapping her support of abortion in Catholicism as far as being “pro choice”:
“A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons ‘are not to be admitted to Holy Communion,'” he says in the letter…Cordileone says in his letter that he wrote to her on April 7, informing her that “should you not publicly repudiate your advocacy for abortion ‘rights’ or else refrain from referring to your Catholic faith in public and receiving Holy Communion, I would have no choice but to make a declaration, in keeping with canon 915, that you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.” He says that since that time, she has not done so.
I have little doubt that there will be a procession of “progressive” Catholic churches lining up to break the archbishop’s injunction.
And, right on queue, big mouth irrelevant Whoopi Goldberg “chastised” the archbishop, saying essentially, that he can’t do that. Well, sorry, dumb ass, yes, he can and he did, so pound sand!
And the Archbishop of DC stepped right up to assure Pelosi she is welcome to celebrate communion with the same mouth she celebrates infanticide with.
The RCC in the West is broken beyond repair. It’s a very unwholesome environment I wouldn’t encourage anyone to attend.
Forgot to add that it’s long overdue. Although I’m no longer a practicing Catholic for the corrupt Pope Francis and their support of DemoCommies that are hypocritically aligned with the faith, while ignoring the teachings of the church, it’s nice to see that some church leaders have the guts to call them out. I may start practicing again, if they go after Pedo Joe for his support of abortion and for his and Jill’s adultery while she was still married to her ex.
Politicians who take America’s guarantee of freedom of religion seriously understand that they must walk a difficult path between living their faith and enforcing it on others.
How about some protection for the children who were raped by priests while the church stood by? Can those priests still receive communion? To deny Pelosi communication but give it to pedophile priests seems to be the height of hypocrisy. Any question as to why younger people are fleeing organized religion?

I see Emery’s got the talking points for today.
Politicians who take America’s guarantee of freedom of religion seriously understand that they must walk a difficult path between living their faith and enforcing it on others.
If Pelosi’s faith informs her that she may personally abstain from abortion while advocating for it for others, then she is not “living her faith” according to Church canon. Permitting an “evil” to spread is the same as committing an “evil”. Plenty of other denominations out there which no doubt would be more in line with her personal beliefs.
To deny Pelosi communication but give it to pedophile priests seems to be the height of hypocrisy.
If the priests are repentant and ask forgiveness through Reconciliation, then they may receive Holy Communion. You or I, or society for that matter, may not forgive them for their actions, but God does, so by extension does the Church. Ongoing support for abortion displays a lack of repentance for what the RCC considers a sin. If you sin and you’re unrepentant, then you are supposed to abstain from Communion. It’s that simple.
Any question as to why
youngervain people of all ages are fleeing organized religion?Because it enforces a moral code upon them, rather than tell them, “If it feels good, do it”?
FIFY.
It’s past time to tax them.
Pig, it is beyond argument that public school teachers have committed, and continue to commit far more and far more egregious crimes against kids, it doesn’t excuse the abuse boys have suffered through the hands of homosexual priests, or the coverup of the abuse by homosexuals in the Church hierarchy.
Catholics like to point out less than 1% of priests have been convicted, or accused of pederasty, and that’s true. But that’s still one hell of a lot of priests, spread out all over the world.
It’s past time to tax them.
Of course. The reprobate’s answer to everything; take their stuff.
Long overdue.
It’s really simple: if you want to be in our club, you must abide by our club rules. If you refuse to follow the club rules, the club doesn’t kick you out. You kicked yourself out. The club merely confirms your decision to leave the club.
Doesn’t matter which club it is – Catholic Church, Republican Party, Minneapolis Grand Slam Bridge Club, Lilydale Pool and Yacht Club – they all have rules and members must follow them or leave.
“But I don’t like your rules. Your rules are dumb. Other people broke the rules, why don’t I get to? It’s not fair to make me follow the rules because I’m special.”
Excuses. You’re in or you’re out. You decide.
Pelosi decided. She’s out. Which is fine, it’s a perfecly valid choice, one which people have been making since an upstart renegade priest nailed 99 Theses to the door of his church. There’s even a word to describe people who don’t want to follow the rules of the Catholic Church.
Protestants.
Someone should ask Pelosi if it is good or is it bad that American blacks are more likely to abort their babies than American whites.
Blade
I’m not excusing or diminishing the collapse of moral discipline on the part of the RCC and other denominations, they deserve to be raked over the coals. What Emery should object to is the abuse of children over the failing of a particular institution.
Why not:
How about some protection for the children who were raped by priests and school teachers while the church and the Teachers Union stood by?
As usual, the dhimmis get it backwards. When Gov DeSantis signed a bill protecting children in schools, Disney attacked him. News in the lamestream media? DeSantis picked a fight with Disney.
Now the mediots are saying that the church politicized things, when the opposite is true: Nasty Palsy wears her “faith” on her sleeve for political reasons. The catholic church (which I abhor) is simply enforcing their rules. Suck it lefties.
yeah, time to tax them is the talking point of the day. Why can’t we have a smart, unpredictable troll?
Nice diversionary tactic, Emery. So does the Democratic Party lose its right to make a moral judgment based on Biden’s perjury, Kennedy’s adultery, Chappaquiddick, the rape of Juanita Broadrick, and the like? Or do we recognize this as the logical fallacy that it is?
But hey, if we would like to have sanctions against the Catholic church for her sins (and that’s been done a LOT in civil and criminal courts), sauce for the goose with the public schools. Glad you’re coming along to the removal of sovereign immunity for public entities!
Regarding this particular case, Pelosi ought to be reminded of 1 Corinthians 11:27-30, which clearly states judgment will be given to those who take the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manner. She apparently responded to the archbishop’s prohibition by going for Communion anyways.
In my church, that would be grounds for excommunication. It’s about time, and yes, that applies to the President as well. I know that Rome wants to tread carefully because so many “Catholics” are pro-prenatal-infanticide, but there is a point where you need to draw a line.
bike,
Good take.
There are a lot of elected representatives that are Catholic, including the majority of Hispanics, that only claim their religion when it suits them. They are hypocrites of the highest order.
It’s past time to tax them.
If you tax the RCC for requiring Catholic politicians, better prepare for those churches that let Democrats campaign from the pulpit to also get taxed.
Pig, rAT Emery is an idiot. He’s a pathological liar, wrapped in a narcissists pelt that makes shit up on the fly for the explicit purpose of getting a reaction, not to add to the conversation.
When Trump issues a statement in support of public school teachers, rAT will denounce them in no uncertain terms, and without any truth behind his accusations.
I know that Rome wants to tread carefully because so many “Catholics” are pro-prenatal-infanticide, but there is a point where you need to draw a line.
So, when God said “Thou shalt not kill”, he meant “Thou shalt not kill, but celebrating it is OK if it gets butts in the pews”?
Catholic priests. School teachers. And now Southern Baptists.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/23/us/southern-baptist-convention-sexual-abuse-allegations-report/index.html
Yes, I know, it’s CNN. But click the link – it’s an independent report from an outside firm hired by the Southern Baptist Convention to investigate.
There’s a lot of bad things going on in America today. That doesn’t diminish the bad things done in any particular organization (I’m not making a tu quoque argument to excuse the Catholics). I’m pointing out the fact that one particular organization did bad things doesn’t mean the organization is so uniquely bad that it can never be redeemed.
The road to redemption runs from confession through making amends to return to high standards. The confession and amends parts are being handled by the bankruptcy courts. The return to high standards is taking a little longer. Kudos to the Archbishop for taking the lead.
I have seen politicians denounce the Alito opinion, I have seen activists protesting the Alito opinion, what I have not seen is any attempt to persuade voters to support abortion rights. They don’t care about stare decicis.
As a Baptist myself–fundamental but somewhat close in theology to the SBC–I welcome the SBC report. Hopefully they (and my “tribe”) get religion on this soon enough to clean up our act before we become the Boy Scouts, Catholic priests, or whatever. It’s a big, important move by the SBC that hopefully heralds a new era of “we’re not going to try to handle these things inside anymore.” And that bit is, really, along with the notion “it’s not that big of a deal”, the big thing that leads people to dishonor God in their actions.
JD, have you forgotten Jim Baker?
Amanda Marcotte thinks that the pro-abortion people can win the political fight for votes by making sex fun:
https://www.salon.com/2022/05/04/the-pleasure-principle-how-the-left-wins-the-abortion/
Then it will be happy fornicators vs. dour puritanical abortion-banners.
Forget the strawmen in the article (Marcotte really, really hates conservatives), the problem with her scheme is that people on the left have been trying for 20 years to make the kind of sex that results in pregnancy as un-fun as possible.
Amanda Marcotte is a shameless slut; always has been.
MP, Marcotte’s column reminds me of Roger Staubach’s response to the question of whether he was jealous of all the feminine attention Joe Namath got. His response was something to the effect of “I assure you that I enjoy sex just as much as Joe does. The difference is that all of mine happens to be with one woman.”
Really, there’s a lot of evidence out there that those who handle sex Biblically have more of it, and enjoy it more. Marcotte should get up to speed on the science–which also notes that it’s men who do most of the pushing for abortion. Oopsie.
