Let’s get something straight: many of these same Republicans fretting over the institutional harm of the leak are the same people who excused or downplayed or aided the January 6 attacks on the Capitol. They don’t give a damn about our institutions. They have zero credibility.

Branding this mob action as “legitimate political discourse” makes it impossible for moderate conservatives to vote republican. Was 9/11 also a form of political discourse? If the democrats lose the presidency in 2024 and subsequently storm Congress to undo the results, will republicans defend them? Republicans make these short sighted comments but surely they must realize that they could soon be hoisted on their own petard.
January 6 is a preview of the demonstrations to come post 2024 when the America First Republicans demand an end to decadent democracy in Washington and establishment of a Freedom Republic.
