Beef

Close to three years ago, Sheriff Fletcher in Saint Paul said that the drastic uptick in homicides – even then, before the pandemic Dash was largely the result of gang beefs going back into the early 2000s.

It seems plausible then – although Big Left/Minnesota pointedly ignored the suggestion.

And yet here it is again:

The allegation that our skyrocketing homicide rates are related to yoot gangs was catcalled out of the public space three years ago.

Now, Channel 4 is covering it.

What could be the difference?

Oh.

  1. Nothing has changed since 2005, when I served on a HennCo Grand Jury. We reviewed 25 cases, over a six month timeframe and only one was not a gang related killing. Funny! Not one of the gangs involved were white.

  2. Of course it is gangs. And the poor innocent people caught in the crossfire.
Progressives have a hard time with human behavior, especially the human costs of their progressive ideology.
If the cops don’t rule the streets, the gangs will.
And the cops can not rule the streets without backing from prosecuting attorneys.
The death spiral is not going to affect just the people in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, it will be all of Hennepin and Ramsey counties, because that is where the cancer is, and when I say “cancer,” I mean county level law enforcement.

  3. Of course it is gangs

All true, MP. I remember that proggies launched the forehead-slapping notion that cops are nothing more than gangs either without actually explaining that cops are the gang for the rest of us.

And I continue to insist that it’s not the cops nor even the prosecuting attorneys, it’s the judges. Just track @CrimeWatchMpls for proof.

  4. Now, now, you can’t blame judges. That would be racist, sexist, homophobic, misinformation, seditious and probably treason. Did I forget any?

Minnesota judges once were long-serving pillars of the community who got elected to a judicial position in recognition of their wisdom and prudence. At least, that was the theory. Nowadays, they are vetted by a Judicial Selection Commission which counts trial experience above all else, then nominees are appointed by the governor after a personal interview. Women and minorities get affirmative action points.

The bios of judges are available on the web. Look how many are former public defenders. Look how many were involved with leftist crusades. Wonder how many were DFL contributors? You don’t think they bring their career attitudes with them?

A perfectly impartial judiciary is theoretically desireable but practically impossible. We’re not even trying.

  5. These “gangs” are ignorant, 10 to 25 year old, 75IQ blacks who were raised in the street. There is no hierarchy, no command and control; they just know who “J-dog” is with and who “Slick” is with. And who ever has the most money and the most firearms is boss for the day.

All this leftist chin wagging of “redemption” is nothing but a sales pitch for more money. They know these trashy little thugs couldn’t redeem themselves if they wanted to. Most of them can’t read, or write, or do math that doesn’t relate to grams and ounces.

Prison, robbery, welfare, or some city funded “anti-gang” scam after they get out of prison too old to roll; any way you cut it, we will pay for their upkeep as long as they live, so every one of themselves they remove from the planet is a gift.

  7. A perfectly impartial judiciary is theoretically desireable

Well, there’s impartial with regards to running a trial in a manner that is fair to all parties in the search for the truth (lower case ‘t’) of the matter. There’s also impartially sending criminals to jail for increasingly extended periods depending on their criminal history so as to get them off public streets. And I don’t care about rehabilitation.

  8. You would think that anyone with background as a public defender would have few illusions left about the nature of crime and culture amongst their former clients.

And if you haven’t seen it yet, the Liz Collins video for Alpha News of riding with the anti-carjacking task force is well done and insightful. Even Sheriff Fletcher is in it, saying that the crime in the area is largely the result of no more than 80 to 100 youths who are in a recidivist catch and release cycle. (It’s also noted that since Totem Town was closed – and not replaced – judges have few options but to release the youths back to their guardians.)

  9. The people ine charge are wedded to the jaw-droppingly stupid notion that the cops and the prosecting attorneys cause crime.
For at least half a century, progressives have been dedicated to putting the insane in charge of the asylum.

  10. Night, you’re thinking about it as a sane person. Sane people don’t go to law school for the express purpose of making the world a better place. Sane people don’t seek out positions defending obviously guilty people. Sane people get real jobs and work long hours to make a better life for themselves and their families.

The kind of people who make a career of public defending or tenants rights or LGBT advocacy have convinced themselves they are fighting a great cause, as great as slavery or WW II. The ones who become disillusioned walk away but they’re not the ones who get nominated.

If being Warrior in the Great Crusade is your self-image for the first 40 years of your life, can you lock it away when a fellow Warrior in the Great Crusade appoints you to the bench?

  11. NW, in another life, we used to have a 15 acre hobby farm in Oak Grove, just about 1/2 mile from Totem Town. We used to get kids, muddy, wet and torn up knocking at the door asking “Which way to Minneapolis?” and “Can I use your phone?” all the time.

“25 miles that way, and no”.
