Urban Progressive Privilege: Just In Case 2021 Wasn’t Weird Enough

Rep. John Thompson shreds the DFL and mainstream media’s hypocrisy in re Sheriff Hutchinson.

And he’s not wrong:

It’s a long-ish video, but worth it.

And there’s still a week to go…

  1. Stopped clock right twice a day. I agree Walz and company are hypocrites. Thompson is execrable.

  2. Last week, Dr. Scott Jensen, GOP gubernatorial candidate, was invited to speak about issues, by a group of Somali business owners. Rep. Thompson happened to be in attendance. Jensen took significant flak from within the Minnesota GOP, including Paul Gazelka, for inviting Thompson to participate. Yea. We all know that Thompson has issues, but, he’s still a sitting elected state representative, but Jensen’s reasoning for including him, made sense. The GOP has lost too many elections and every post mortem evaluation, reaches the same conclusion; the GOP doesn’t do enough campaigning in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. He’s changing that. Apparently, he also had a breakfast meeting with Thompson and gained further perspective on the views of his district. Since that meeting, his office has received quite a few inquiries and offers of support from Minneapolis residents. We could do worse than Jensen. I’m sure not a fan of Gazelka.

Yep. If you don’t ask people for their votes, you’ll never get them. It’s worth the effort.

  4. Mr. D… another polyanna. If only we vote harder!

I can’t vote any harder. But your crabbed worldview ain’t gettin’ you anywhere. Maybe outreach will fail, but I’ve lived in Minnesota nearly 30 years and I haven’t seen too many Republicans crossing Larpenteur Avenue.

  5. I can see why Thompson’s rather grouchy about the matter, but one thing that strikes me is that that car had a LOT of indications of Hutchinson’s difficulties, and that’s not going to go away with a couple of months at Betty Ford. So the DFL powers that be and the blue line of silence are pretty much aiming to kill Hutchinson, IMO.

And I also agree with Mr. D. that it’s time for the GOP to start making their case in the cities. “Want more of the this nonsense? Keep pulling the lever for the DFL. Want bad actors to be punished adequately? You might want to try something new.”
