Woke With A Side Of Struggle

A friend of the blog emails:

Reading this story from the strib it sounds like the Birchwood is no longer slinging hash (er avocado toast) for cash, but is providing amuse-bouche for people who are working their way through the three steps of Maoist Self-Criticism. The question for the author, Ms Du, to answer for the reader would be “Is their food any good?” I have eaten there and the answer is they are at their best mediocre, plus they don’t know how to make coffee and skip the pie. There is not much joy in listening to White Urban Privilege whinge about the traumas induced by The Patriarchy while you’re working your way through some dismal chick-pea with burnt bell pepper concoction.

These sorts of places can – I say, can – be fun for the flavor of people watching I’m starting to call “virtue signal intelligence“.

  1. The most interesting thing is buried near the end of the piece – this Woke grifter got $900,000 from the Govt covid fund. Who wouldn’t fire all the employees, take the money and run if they got a check for 5 times what the place is worth.

  2. MAW, does not work that way. Have to prove money went to payroll. Else you have to pay the loan back with interest. Unless you declare bankruptcy and then they can enjoy your money. Well, it is not that simple, but that’s the gist of it. Grifters is right! Righteous, woke, grifters!

  3. Lived across the street from Birchwood for a few years. Went there once right after moving in. Not impressed.
More broken up about the loss of Skol Liquors down the street due to looting during the Summer of Love, great local store with a mission (and better product). No sympathy for terminally woke Birchwood.

  4. I’m also suspicious about how the $900k was dispersed.

“It’s kind of like a prairie fire. When a farmer wants to regenerate the soil, you burn everything down … then you can plant seeds and the seeds will flourish because the soil is so fertile,” she said in an interview. “That’s what I want to do with Birchwood.”

Do I see a arson investigation in the future?
