Just As Every Cop Is A Criminal, And All The Sinners Saints

Let’s hope 2010 is a better year for local law-enforcement than last year.

Although the Minneapolis PD seems to be off to a rocky start; an MPD SWAT officer has been arrested as a suspect in a long string of robberies around the metro:

Minneapolis police officer Timothy Edward Carson’s shift on Wednesday started at 9 a.m. But he wasn’t there.

By the time he told a supervisor he was running late at 9:30, the FBI says, Carson had robbed an Apple Valley bank and was well on his way to getting caught.

The bad news?  Carson was one of the cops that the MPD gives the big guns to, to go after the toughest and most dangerous perps.

The good news?  He might not be the brightest alleged bank robber we’ve run into:

The criminal complaint outlining the bank robbery charge against Carson shows that the trail of clues leading to his arrest began minutes before he allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on Pilot Knob Road.

At 8:37 a.m., Apple Valley police officer Kurt Schultz pulled over Carson’s white Mitsubishi Galant because it lacked a front license plate. Carson identified himself as a Minneapolis police officer and was allowed to go on his way.

At 9:17 a.m., Schultz was called to the bank on the robbery report. A minute earlier, a man in a black jacket and ski mask had robbed the bank. Armed with a handgun, he had ordered the tellers to give him money, which he put in a backpack, before fleeing to a light-colored vehicle parked outside.

So he (allegedly) gets pulled over, plays the Thin Blue Get Out Of A Ticket Free card, and then robs a bank in the same jurisdiction not a few minutes later?

In the meantime, the Feds are taking the Gang Strike Force case to a grand jury.

A federal grand jury will hear evidence on the Strike Force in February, according to two sources familiar with the investigation. The evidence is expected to include testimony from former Strike Force police.

Former members of the Strike Force have been approached by federal investigators to provide information about wrongdoing in exchange for leniency, sources said.

The investigation timetable is not clear.

Here’s to a better 2010.

  1. Apply Valley has so little diversity that they have to bus in their crooked cops from Minneapolis.

  2. Now Mitch, you’ve got to realize that Officer Carson is responsible enough to carry an M14, and you are not. :^)

Foot, ya gotta get outta that bad neighborhood that has so many Minneapolis cops! (maybe move to North Minneapolis….I’ve heard there aren’t very many of them there…..could be safer)

  3. It’s the same in Paradise:

Wendy and David Tatum, and son Kian testified that during a 2007 search warrant executed at their Fern Acres home, police drew their weapons, used profanity, confiscated cash and iPods and terrorized the family.

Fern Acres is a rural subdivision a few miles from my house.

The young Kian Tatum, 14, sobbing before the council, described how an officer watched him use the bathroom and how another officer grabbed his sister’s breast.

A 2-year-old child sleeping in another room was woken up with the words “Get the F up, you B,” as Kian described it.

County Council member Emily Na’eole said this about the incident:

I no think we should be treating these people like this. If somebody hana ‘ino (mistreat) anybody, these people is just as human being as anybody else that stay on the force. We cannot use our badge and our authority to plow on anybody. No can. So this is why we wen’ build this big bucks building across the street (Hale Kaulike, the state Judiciary building) so we can start putting people in prison. I mean plenty money. Big bucks mean plenty money. So we can start slamming people in prison — this is not the aloha style. Ua mau o ke ea i ka aina i ka pono.

Yes, Na’eole really talks like that.

  4. Old and busted…

    “Good morning, Smith”

The new hotness at MPD precincts…

“Sweet lord this guy needs to be in jail. Then one of the laid off recruits can get re-hired.”

  5. Yes, Swiftee, that’s our Emily. If your brother lives in the Pahoa area she represents him.
She wears that get up all of the time, adding a big straw hat with a band of flowers when it is sunny. Sometimes she makes religious (Christian) speeches when she responds to testimony at public meetings. She is known for being excessively ‘blunt’ with her staff and fellow council-members. She thinks the h1n1 vaccine will kill you and that it should be legal to live in a tent on the undeveloped residential land that you own. She is frequently allied with Kelly Greenwell (County Council person representing Kona. I despise Greenwell, tho I respect Emily). Greenwell is from a poor branch of an old island haole family, land rich, money poor. He has spent his whole life trying to figure out some way to suck a livelihood out of the taxpayers.
His solution to a land dispute between some Hawaiians and the state was to ask the sate to make him the paid custodian of the land and let him decide how it should be used. He got some of his mauka land taken for back taxes and, when all his appeals were exhausted he clear cut the valuable koa trees on the land just before the state took it. Greenwell was the crackpot who wrote a letter to Obama saying that he should release the Guantamo inmates on the Big Island — not transfer them, release them here. You can get a glimpse of his awesome neutron-star like density by reading this:

My councilman (Upper Puna) is Guy Enriques. He’s a standard-issue, pro-development, pro-jobs guy.

  6. Give the guy a break.

He probably comes from a broken home, raised by a single mother in a bad neighborhood in his hometown of Wayzata, socially promoted by teachers who looked down on him because of his learning disability, abused by Marine drill instructors and denied employment and promotions because of his race, then forced to live in a crappy little dump in the Hell-hole of desperation and despair that is Apple Valley.

He’s depraved on account of he was deprived.

That, or he was driven to this extreme by his mounting family medical bills that aren’t covered by the crappy pay and lousy medical insurance provided to Minneapolis city employees, further underscoring the need for Obama to act quickly on health care to save us from more medical-bill-induced-robberies.

Plainly, it’s not his fault. Plainly, it’s OUR fault. Yours, especially, Foot. Placing all that money in the local bank was an incidement, a temptation – why, you’re maintaining an attractive nuisance! Shame on you!

    .

  7. He wasn’t decorated. Those were all awards anyone in the service gets for just being there.

  8. That’s not true predator; you have to earn a combat action badge. It’s an honor to have the right to wear one.

  9. I bet there are lots of Marines and Sailors who have it and earned it. I would bet we will hear he didn’t.
