A Hero For Today

Polish/Canadian clergyman in Calgary, Alberta ejects police trying to harass his Easter services:

Don’t know about you, but I feel happier and happier the more I see this.

  1. Speaking truth to power. I will be curious to see how Trudeau et al. respond; I don’t imagine they’ll want to let the accurate description of their behavior stand unanswered.

  2. Unfortunately, the blond bint in the video will very likely be back with this response:
    https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/victoria-taft/2021/04/07/police-state-cops-swarm-another-canadian-church-for-covid-defiance-and-the-woke-crowd-cheers-n1438278

in a decent, free, country the blond bin would have lost her job the following Monday but we are in the age of Bureaucratic Ascendancy. The bint will be promoted and the full weight of bureaucracy will be brought to bear on the pastor and any of his parishioners they can identify. Expect the bint and her droogs to wait until the Chauvin verdict sucks out all the media oxygen, she wasn’t happy about getting publicly spanked and (literally) kicked to the curb, expect retribution.

  3. I saw a video yesterday of the government response – a fence around the building and a fence around the property; tarps going up over the fence next to the building to block one’s view. Plenty of “security” to keep people from voluntarily risking their lives. I bet a couple of commenters here get a stiffy just looking at it.

I guess Nazis are like Voldemort: say their name and suddenly they appear.

  4. BTW. Calgary is the lone holdout of sanity up there. They’re like the Idaho of Canada.

  5. What people are conflating is the Easter Service disruption in Calgary with the ongoing persecution of GraceLife Church in Edmonton. Alberta Health Services has been waging war on churches(and by extension Religion) in Alberta since last summer. The Easter Sunday incident is not a one-off event it is merely a very public manifestation of Alberta government policy.

  6. A case study from ProPublica:
    https://www.propublica.org/article/the-lost-year-what-the-pandemic-cost-teenagers
Two similar towns, one in Texas, one just over the border in New Mexico. The Democrat governor of New Mexico shutdown, hard, including public schools and high school sports. The GOP governor of Texas emphasized opening up, not locking down, public schools and high school sports.
The difference in the mental health of kids on either side of the border is shocking.
Isolating people, denying them physical human contact, is the harshest punishment we give prisoners other than the death penalty.
In the last years, idiot governors, allied with idiot doctors and “public health experts” have been treating Americans like a demented warden treats his cons.
This is the kind of mistake you get when you put the experts in charge of the lives of ordinary people. All the data is there, you just have to look at it.

  7. Here’s an account, with photos from “Not the Bee” describing the Fascist (Everything within the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State) actions against the church in Alberta: https://notthebee.com/article/after-throwing-their-pastor-in-jail-for-over-a-month-for-disobeying-rona-rules-canadian-officials-are-not-erecting-a-us-capitol-style-fence-around-this-church-to-keep-members-from-worshipping?fbclid=IwAR0gUeM9MY94p_7z2A98VjzSIKktmWKmu8j4QS9AE0d2-KJOchHPNS0QhY8

The article points out the following:
    – The church has had no COVID cases tracked back to it despite meeting weekly since last summer.
    – In the 255,000 square-mile province of Alberta, there were 3 deaths yesterday related to COVID out of nearly 4.5 million people.
    – The province has fully vaccinated over 123,000 adults. With just over 600,000 seniors 65 and older, that means about 20% of the “target demographic” for the virus should already be immunized.
    – Yet authorities are spending a bunch of tax dollars to surround a church with a fence and guards to keep people from worshipping (as if that will work!).

  8. People who think this is the same as the Holocaust/Stalinism have never actually had to struggle in real life, so they have no actual frame of reference for what real oppression is like.

People who are spoiled often assume that basic standards and accountability are tyranny because they’ve never had to be subjected to them before.

  9. People who think this is the same as the Holocaust/Stalinism have never actually had to struggle in real life, so they have no actual frame of reference for what real oppression is like.

Who says this is the same as the Holocaust/Stalinism?
You are setting the bar pretty low there, pardner. “If you aren’t being starved & killed by the millions, you aren’t really being oppressed.” Maybe you should address this comment to the #BLM protesters?

  10. The question remains, though, as to where that line is. Civilization requires that you give up some individual rights and freedoms to enjoy the benefits that civilization provides.

Simply crying out “you guys are Nazis” only weakens your position that your rights are being infringed upon because no one will actually take you seriously. The Slippery Slope fallacy is not grounds to simply do what you want because you fear one new rule will automatically lead to an avalanche of oppression.

  11. Emery,
If I understand your assertion correctly April 3 1922 marks the beginning of the Holodomor in the USSR, just as January 20 1933 was the beginning of Endlösung der Judenfrage in Germany? Yes?

  12. Religious freedom is enshrined, in the US, in the first amendment — not the 2nd, 3rd, or the 4th.
Your freedom to buy pakalolo appears nowhere in the Constitution at all, and is illegal in most States and at the federal level.
Yet the boneheads who designed the lockdown regimes in States like California and Colorado think that your freedom to buy dope is more important than your freedom to worship.
When they put freedom of worship in the constitution, the founders, who were hyper-geniuses compared to mental deficients like Newsom & Walz, were working on the recent historical memory of two hundred years of religious warfare that had decimated Europe, North to south, and east to west.
But Newsom & Walz think know know better than the founders which social activities should be “protected.”

  13. MO, a correction;
“But Newsom & Walz And Emery think know know better than the founders which social activities should be “protected.”

  14. Giving up some liberties is the price civilized people pay to enjoy other liberties. You give up yours; I’ll enjoy mine.

That’s not Representative Democracy. That’s Animal Farm.

  15. Particularly weak to call them both Nazis and Communists. Not the same thing at all.

  16. Particularly weak to call them both Nazis and Communists. Not the same thing at all

Oh, goody, the opening salvo in yet another internet war of words arguing whether Nazis were leftists or not. That should distract everyone from the actual topic of this post.

  17. National Socialists are not the same as International Socialists. I mean, obviously not: one says “inter” and the other doesn’t. Nothing in common at all.

  18. Moderation. Try again:

National S….ists are not the same as International S…….ists. I mean, obviously not: one says “inter” and the other doesn’t. The underlying relationship of the leadership to the populace, the tactics used to gain complaince, the long-term strategy of world domination – nothing in common at all.

  19. As I pointed out before, Emery is the resident SiTD apologist for mass murderers.

  20. lol…Just look at our little cockwomble go. Defending Freedom one round-up at a time.

The Philippines are your kind of place, 2 Jab. Grab your passport linked, international immunization paperwork and get over there ASAP, and just BREATH in the FREEDOM!

Maybe they’ll let you attend a Covid re-education session….you can cheer as the authorities help people get their minds right, Tater.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/philippines-man-dies-after-being-forced-to-do-300-squats-for-breaking-covid-19-curfew/ar-BB1fpKJy

“A man in the Philippines has died after being forced to do 300 squats for breaching Covid curfews, making him the latest victim of the country’s often brutal approach to enforcing restrictions.”

  21. 👆”Be Best”

Maybe Melania needs to take you over her knee — but you’d like that wouldn’t you…

  22. Yes, Emery, shutting down churches and forcing people to meet in the woods has nothing to do with Stalinism, because it’s not like believers under Stalin had church buildings confiscated, and that they were therefore forced to meet in the woods.

Oh, wait, that’s exactly the case. Really, the issue here is that churches are being shut down while other institutions are being allowed to open. Blatant violation of religious freedom.

  23. Emery sneered: “Maybe Melania needs to take you over her knee — but you’d like that wouldn’t you…”

when confronted our resident apologist for murderers deflects with a scurrilous misogynist’s slur!

    Classy as always Emery

  24. Our church – like the underground church in China – has been meeting in a private home throughout Minnesota’s “flatten the curve” era. No masks, either. Also, no contagion.

When the local Sheriff was asked if he was concerned about this he replied, “My officers aren’t going to get involved in that kind of thing.”

  25. People who think this is the same as the Holocaust/Stalinism…

…don’t exist either in this conversation or in the original story. What, you’re gonna progsplain Naziism and Stalinism to a Pole?

The point being, the cops and people like them aren’t literally Hitler or Stalin.

Merely that Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and the like need a society with lots of people like them to succeed in seizing power.

  26. Civilization requires that you give up some individual rights and freedoms to enjoy the benefits that civilization provides.
    We are a republic.
The people decide what rights and freedom we give up in exchange for governance (not “civilization”). The people. Not some ex gym teacher named “Tim.”

  27. shutting down churches and forcing people to meet in the woods has nothing to do with Stalinism, because it’s not like believers under Stalin had church buildings confiscated, and that they were therefore forced to meet in the woods.

Hey – the Nazis did the same thing! Maybe Nazis and Communists are the same after all! Hitler’s crew required pastors to be licensed to preach, and they could only get a license if they accepted the Fuhrer, not Christ, as head of the church, and Nazi doctrine over traditional Christian doctrine. Losing your “license” meant not only losing your job and income, but also your pension (similar to what Episcopalian and ELCA pastors face if they want to split from their denominations based on gay marriage, among other things.) Dietrich Bonhoeffer and others of the rebellious Confessing Church were squeezed more and more into the margins, ultimately running their seminary from tents and unheated cabins in the snowy woods of Prussia.

So, based on the state reaction, who does Alberta and Canada think is the head of the Church?

  28. EI,

Particularly weak to call them both Nazis and Communists. Not the same thing at all.

Again with trying to progsplain those who actually know the difference.

As JoDo pointed out above, Communists are internationalist socialists, while Nazis, Fascists, Phalangists and the like were Nationalist socialists. The Nazi Party had ‘socialist’ in their name, and they delivered. If you have ever read [1] about the history of the Reichswohlfahrtbeamt (Reich Welfare Bureau), it’d give a Bernie Bro a chubby: a fully planned economy (and, once the war took hold, planned very badly, to German’s chagrin), comprehensive benefits, massive subsidies, basically the whole welfare state – provided one was Aryan or close enough.

Of course, ascribing academic ideology to Hitler orStalin is the dilettante’s conceit. Both, being focused on power and being people for whom ideology was a tool, not a foundation, had contempt for belief in all things, whether faith, party, ideology or anything and anyone but them.

“But Nazis and Commies killed each other!” /bleat

So do Luccheses and Gambinos, and Bloods and Crips. Doesn’t make them “opposites”. The gang comparison is actually much more apt than you likely realize, EI – MS13’s goals aren’t ideological; they are pure pragmatism.

But saying the Nazis weren’t socialist shows someone who never bothered to learn the history of the era.

[1] BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Any prog reading actual history from the era – that’s a howler. I slay me.

  29. The Nazis are a great example of totalitarianism, but a rather poor excuse for fascists. In fascism, according to the people that thought it up (like Mussolini), the goal of fascism is a stable, prosperous, modern society. The goal of the Nazi’s was to use the fascist state structure necessary to fight and win battles in the eternal war against the other races. If some other system was better suited that goal (like monarchy, for example), they would gladly have ditched fascism for that system. The nazis could never be communists because it considered the idea of peoples and races to be illusions created by the capitalist system.
And of course it was Stalin, not Hitler, who claimed (when it was useful to him) that his goal was “socialism in one country.”
Big Brother was beyond left and right. The goal of Big Brother was totalitarianism itself, not the use of totalitarianism to achieve some other goal.

  30. Emery-“simply crying out ‘you guys are Nazis’ weakens your position…..”.
In an amazing display of lack of self-awareness, Emery forgets that liberals called Trump a “Nazi” nearly every day, and thought it strengthened their position…

  31. “Maybe Melania needs to take you over her knee”

Atta boy. It’s shameless lack of self respect like that makes you the Heavy Weight Cockwomble of the World, Tater.

Even Trump, no slouch himself, got upset when people mocked his asinine statements…you? You just don’t care, or are maybe just too stupid to realize when everyone is laughing at you.

At Viet way, there is No one in your league, fool.

  32. MO and EI,

the goal of fascism is a stable, prosperous, modern society. The goal of the Nazi’s was to use the fascist state structure necessary to fight and win battles in the eternal war against the other races. If some other system was better suited that goal (like monarchy, for example), they would gladly have ditched fascism for that system.

And, in the end, in line with MO’s last sentence, Naziism ate itself – or, rather, the Hitler faction ate the factions of the party that still put party ideology above power; more proximately, the Röhm faction, that believed Naziism would and could exist independently and after Hitler.

But at the end of the day…:

Big Brother was beyond left and right. The goal of Big Brother was totalitarianism itself, not the use of totalitarianism to achieve some other goal.

And in this, both Hitler and Stalin showed that, far from “not the same thing at all”, were, beyond the accessories on their military costumes, pretty much the same.
