Off Target
By Mitch Berg
Powerline has a column on President Trump’s decision to revoke President Obama’s rule on AFFH (Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing). The Left claims the decision is racist. It’s not.
President Obama wanted to force racial integration in nice neighborhoods, which white people in nice neighborhoods don’t oppose. Nobody is trying to block blacks from buying homes in Woodbury or Wayzata, for example. People in nice neighborhoods oppose forced class integration, because of the behavioral differences between classes
Florence King, a writer from the South, explained how Southern ladies distinguish classes:
If you live in a run-down little house with a beat-up car in the front yard but the car runs, you’re ordinary.
If you live in a run-down little house with a beat-up car in the front yard but the car doesn’t run, you’re common.
If you live in a run-down little house with pieces of a car in the front yard, you’re trash.
That’s why people in nice neighborhoods oppose AFFH. It has nothing to do with race. We don’t want trash – of any race – moving into the neighborhoods we worked so hard to reach.
Joe Doakes
But remember – all “racial conflict” is really class conflict being re-painted with “race” to make it socially acceptable on the left.

Don’t forget that lefties are often the epitome of NIMBY practitioners. Take Robert Reich

The most egregious use of AFFH I know of involved forcing the city of Dubuque, Iowa to resettle 200 Chicago residents holding housing vouchers instead of using vouchers for people from Iowa. That’s busing on steroids.

For the progs to ascertain that opposition to AFFH is rooted in racism says a helluva lot more about them than it does conservatives. Berg’s Seventh Law is likely applicable here.

Probably not subtle enough to call it a dog whistle?
It seems all Trump can summon up now is fear of imaginary threats. The Chinese will abuse your data (unlike the US saints running similar sites), the poor will be given housing designed to reduce the value of your home, etc.
Suburban women have turned off someone who is grossly incompetent, grossly divisive and who has made suburban lives more insecure with massive unemployment, increased healthcare costs and intensely aggressive policing.
Suburban women to the extent that you can ever generalize value kindness, opportunities for their children and grand children, and mutual support. They dont see these values represented in the current President.

Nobody cares if the poor move in. Poor people who have dignity and manners are fine neighbors. I grew up among them.
People care if trash move in, of any race. Sadly, AFFH, Section 8, do-gooder lawyers and Democrats seem to see it as their mission in life to promote and reward trashy behavior.
Characterizing trashy behavior as the inevitable and unavoidable result of race or income denies personal responsibility. “We’re depraved on account of we’re deprived” was a joke, not a prescription for public policy.

Yes, closet racist Samantha Bee and her husband, raised holy hell when their NY school system wanted to bring in low income students to their kid’s elite school. Of course, her husband poo pooed the notion that it was racist.

Looks like Trump’s trying everything except appealing to more voters!

Emery,
Why don’t you justify your existence and go sew some masks for the those unwashed masses that you hate.
August 7th, 2020 at 5:54 pm
Looks like Emery is trying to blame everything he can on Trump, minus the evidence. “Suburban women have turned off someone who is grossly incompetent, grossly divisive, …massive unemployment, increased healthcare costs and intensely aggressive policing..”. Emery, at lest you’re not a drama Queen when you post…But please, do us a favor by providing proof of your assertions. Especially massive unemployment and aggressive policing. You know it’s the governors that decide what should be shut down in each specific state, and “policing” has been done only where there’s rioting. Good luck!

The title of this topic is very appropo the way the posts are headed – off target.

@jfm: Wait — is this the 1956 presidential election?
Most in the US simply want a functioning government that works in their interest and delivers on what is most important to them. The cascade of misinformation, insults and incompetence has alienated many as the polling shows.

See, the thing is, if I am a racial minority, race is not something I can do anything about. On the other hand, if I am underclass trash, then it is my problem and my responsibility to improve myself.
Guess that’s why the left is so hysterical about “race”.
