When Government Imitates “The Onion”, The People Will Imitate “Babylon Bee”

North Carolina speedway declares its stock car race a “peaceful protest”:

A North Carolina speedway drew a crowd of more than 2,000 spectators in defiance of the state’s coronavirus restrictions after declaring the race a “protest.”

The governor’s office had warned Ace Speedway in Elon earlier this week that a crowd of more than 25 would violate the state’s Phase 2 coronavirus restrictions.

But news outletsreport that more than 2,000 attended a race Saturday night. A sign from management outside the speedway said, “This Event is held in Peaceful Protest of Injustice and Inequality Everywhere.”

That might be what I need to do to have that NARN Tenth Anniversary party.

  1. I am flying to MN in July. First class, all the way.
But they are almost certainly going to make me wear a mask, both in the air and during my 6 hour layover at LAX.
That is 20 hours wearing a mask.
There is no reason a person who is not sick, and who is not at special risk if he gets the virus, should wear a mask.

  2. MP;
Simple solution. Just tell them that you are “peacefully protesting” the death of George Floyd.

  3. This but for the President

    Apparent information flow:
    – Some people on the Internet →
    – The website Conservative Treehouse →
    – A Russian state media veteran now working for One America News Network →
    – The president of the United States

  4. I hear that if you refuse to wear a mask, they don’t arrest you or anything like that, but they shadow-ban you. I think that that the way the airlines work, it’ll be an industry wide ban.
It’s their airplane, their rules, I am just grousing 🙂

  5. Here is some interesting data:
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/national/coronavirus-us-cases-deaths/
Covid-19 deaths per day, by state.
I would challenge anyone to look at the graphs with the state blacked out, and tell which state had a lockdown and which did not. Both Minnesota, and Wisconsin, have reached a steady state of reported covid-19 deaths of about nine deaths per day. That steady state began in early April for WI, and late April for MN.
A steady state implies some sort of negative feedback mechanism. Whatever that feedback mechanism may be, it isn’t lockdown status.
80% of deaths due to covid-19 in Minnesota occurred in care homes, average age is 80+.
I don’t have quite the same data for Wisconsin, but I do know that the vast majority of deaths came to people 70+.
    https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/deaths.htm
People should be angry, very angry, with the politicians who have kept lockdowns in place when any fool can see that serve no purpose, and use precious resources that could be used to better protect at-risk populations.
Oh, and they destroyed countless jobs and businesses while they were at it.
These idiots want to turn the US into a smoking ruin. A complete lack of leadership from blue state governors who are convinced that they can rule by edict.

  6. Emery, you are forgetting the part where what is emitted from The Onion, a humor periodical run by Lefties, goes into your brain and is lodged in the part of the human most people reserve for actual information.
Too funny! The Right gets its news from opinion pieces. Me? I go to an entertainment mag!

  7. Total lockdown is an admission of policy failure. You do that because you don’t know what the hell is going on.

The obvious conclusion is that blanket lockdowns of total populations were unnecessary and that it would have been far simpler and fairer to have isolated the vulnerable, left economies and countries open, and invested fast in track and trace efforts (either tech or old fashioned tracing, as used by Kerala). An astonishing failure of public policy in most advanced economies, and especially in the US, Brazil and UK.

  8. MP;
Yea, I knew that about the airlines. I should have had an LOL emoji after my comment. I have seen some pretty egregious uses of power by flight attendants, using minor offenses to kick people off flights.

  9. Woolly — I’ll assume you didn’t realize that was a verified Trump tweet..

Upside: No, there’s actually no upside. This is just reckless stupidity.

Buffalo protester shoved by Police could be an ANTIFA provocateur. 75 year old Martin Gugino was pushed away after appearing to scan police communications in order to black out the equipment. @OANN I watched, he fell harder than was pushed. Was aiming scanner. Could be a set up? ~ Donald Trump

  10. I never read Trump tweets. Instead I read the reaction to Trump tweets. You would be wise to do the same.

  11. In other words: Trump’s breaking into new tin foil hat territory…

  12. In other words: Trump’s breaking into new tin foil hat territory…

Well, we know that’s true in the case of at least one, low IQ, leftist dimwit in MN.

  13. Read today in the NYT, where a NYPD copper has been arrested for pushing a leftist skank down after she refused to get out of the street. The story says the city prosecutor is looking at charging 40 more NYPD coppers for various rudeness to rioter offenses.

Story doesn’t say, but I’m sure the NYPD morale is at an all time high. And why wouldn’t it be, what with knowing their ranks have been cleared of serial pusher-downers.

Seriously though, it’s actually a brilliant plan. If you can get the cops to quit, you don’t have to endure any criticism for the chaos that follows de-funding them into oblivion.

  14. As I said, Trump is pulling all the weight campaigning for Biden.

Remember; shiny side out. Got to reflect those brain scanning radio waves. Unless you have metal fillings in your teeth. Then it’s just free radio.

  15. Tell me again about how Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the 2016 election, Uncle Emery.

  16. Which was the more craven photo op? Trump’s visit to Saint John’s or congressional dems kneeling “in honor” of George Floyd?

  17. Trump spent more time inside Stormy Daniels than he has inside a church. There really is no way to know if his penchant for trafficking in conspiracy theories is, politically speaking, going to ruin him.

  18. Trump spent more time inside Stormy Daniels than he has inside a church.
Really? What evidence is there of this?
Trump — the germophobe who screws random hookers.
    Sheesh, TDS makes people gullible.

  19. Trump’s mouth is working for the Biden 2020 campaign.

At what point does Biden have to report Trump’s tweets as a campaign contribution?

  20. So, Emery, I’m guessing you assumed that the evidence that Trump had sex with prostitute Stormy Daniels was highly convincing. Until you looked at it and found it was just a thing the prostitute has said, and which Trump denies.

  21. You can’t make this stuff up, he is literally treating his whole presidency as one big reality TV show

Trump has really gone all in on the mantra: ‘Any publicity is good publicity’.

  22. Emery,
It’s awful early to be drunk and/or stoned. I guess the stay at home orders played right into your hands.
