Do We Have To Keep Saying It?

Gilroy Garlic Festival. A gun free zone in a gun free state:

Three people were killed and 15 injured. In 2018, the County with a little over 1.5 million adults had issued just 113 concealed handgun permits — that is just 0.007% of adults. To put it differently, that is only 1 permit issued for every 14,300 people. General citizens in Santa Clara County are banned from being able to carry concealed handguns. There is no nearby county that has even one percent of the population with permits, and for California as a whole, only 0.39% of adults have a permit. Last year, outside the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8.63% of the adult population has a permit.

And the security whose job it was to try to protect people “better than they could do it themselves?”

The shooter went to the unbelievable length of…avoiding it:

Police said the man who opened fire at the festival Sunday, killing three and wounding 15, was able to get around security by entering through a back area of Christmas Hill Park.
Gilroy Police Chief Scott Smithee said the gunman used “some sort of tool” to cut a fence next to a creek to get into the event.
Christmas Hill Park backs up against a wilderness area, though it is unclear exactly where the gunman entered.
Smithee said the festival had security checkpoints with metal detectors.

I started trying to count up all the mass shootings that’d taken place in guns where, unbelievably, shooters had broken laws and even explicitly evaded security measures. I gave up. It’s not “all of them”, but it’s pretty close.

Government in California would rather you were helpless and dead than have the ability to resist.

So would anyone who proposes gun control.

  1. Why would anyone voluntarily enter a place where you have to go through a metal detector? Sometimes you have to fly or get into a government building, but why risk your life to enter a frikkin’ festival? Count me out.

  2. “Why would anyone voluntarily enter a place where you have to go through a metal detector?”

    Bingo, MP.

My friends and I rode to the GGF several times in the carefree 80’s. It attracted bikers, cowboys, Oakies and Mexican farm workers.

There was always a few country music bands, in addition to garlic ice cream; KFAT, an insurgent country music radio station that once pirated electricity to broadcast, was a sponsor. I’ve still got one of their shirts.

Back then, it was a dusty little party of no more than 2000 people. It was fun.

Not that I’d be anywhere within 1000 miles today, if I were ever to find myself In line to get searched to listen to music and eat ice cream, I’d be a vapor trail in search of friendlier companions in a minute, I assure you.

The fact that the rot has penetrated even to the once dusty streets of Gilroy validates the conclusion there really is, nowhere left in California worth being.

The state that I grew up in literally no longer exists.

  3. BTW. Back then, it was not only legal, but common practice to carry firearms as long as they were in plain sight.

A rifle rack was the first thing a guy put in a new pickup truck. Can you imagine that?

  4. Another “good guy with a gun” breaks bad.

    Thoughts and prayers……

  5. According this twitter thread, there were multiple gunfire incidents yesterday. Eleven shot, 1 killed in Brooklyn. Six in Philly. Five in Baltimore. None seemed to trend on Twitter even once. Odd that. Wonder what was different from the Gilroy incident.

  6. Im hoping lefties just start flat out announcing they want to confiscate guns, a bunch will have the perfect opportunity in a few day with the next delirious democratic debate. They’ve been dancing around the issue for years if not decades. They only thing preventing them from doing that is even they know that’s political suicide. They have gone so far left that maybe they dont care anymore.

  7. POD – were that to happen (all the candidates raise their hands when asked if they want to confiscate guns at the next debate), I can only imagine that it would next prompt wider calls (on the left) for gun grabbing. Additionally, any candidate that has better than an F- rating on human right protection/2A support, will be termed…wait for it… a racist. Possibly, literally Hitler. Which, for those of us that know a little history, will cause even more shaking of heads.

  8. SMH,Im just hoping that does happen. That would officially end the 2020 election right there.

  9. I’m stunned to just read that two Gopher swimmer, males, were hit with gunfire Saturday night in Downtown MPLS. Injuries not serious and they have been released but sheesh, that seems to put us in the mix of talking about these cities and situations.

You know, in the last two weeks, I follow twitter accounts like BNL (Breaking News Live) and Flash News and BNO. There was some other place in California where 4 people were gunned down and killed I believe. Sometimes, I don’t understand what makes a story become big news and others don’t get traction. The Garlic fest. is a big deal, I understand that well.

  10. I went to the Hmong sports festival a few years ago, it always occurs around the 4th of July. I don’t think we went through metal detectors, but they had a lot of “gang unit” police guys around. I think something actually happened while I was there and they took people into custody though, it wasn’t gun shots or anything. Maybe just a physical fight.

  11. Right-wing terrorism, that’s what this was. Change the subject if you like, but that’s what this was.

  12. POD, gin up hatred of the left if it makes you happy but it’s doing so based on a lie. The left has long supported legal gun ownership. We don’t support semi-automatic assault-style rifles as protected by the 2nd Amendment – because they aren’t.

This guy opened fire at a peaceful festival, he was shot and killed by police. Fantasize that a “good guy with a gun” would have stopped him, but then remember that prior to Sunday, the shooter WAS the good guy with a gun. The police did their jobs, we’ve seen 100 times if we’ve seen it once that mostly civilians will either a. not take out their own weapon when they have them or b. shoot the wrong person or be confused for the shooter. You can count on one hand the number of times a mass shooter has been stopped by an armed civilian, you CANT count on one hand the number of mass shootings by semi-auto assault rifles. In short, your cure doesn’t work and the cost of allowing people to own semi-auto assault rifles far exceeds the national benefit. That’s the argument, that’s the point, not lies about confiscation. Your right to individually own firearms has been protected by SCOTUS since McDonald, stop tilting at windmills or creating hatred over strawmen and ghosts.

  13. The guy was an anti-semite and made some reference to a Muslim extremist in his background. Fantasize on PaddyBoy.

In the meantime, speaking of anti-semitism, Omar engages in unhinged hatred again, this time on Rand Paul.

The left is totally unhinged, Designate antifa as a terror group. Omar, more disgrace for MN. I hope that Kelley fellow boots her out of office.

  14. The left has long supported legal gun ownership. We don’t support semi-automatic assault-style rifles as protected by the 2nd Amendment – because they aren’t.

So, let me see if I understand this. The left supports legal gun ownership but “semi-automatic assault-style rifles” are apparently not legal. Even tho’ they are. At present. Which is the cats-paw in this argument. Legality is whatever the left says it is and so, the left supports all legal gun ownership and then makes all guns illegal. Case closed.

So, in the interests of clarity, can you define “assault-style rifles”? Are you saying all semi-autos are illegal? Or only the “assault-style” ones? The left wants to restrict guns that look mean. What about rifles shooting .30-06 ammo like great great grandpa did when he was huntin’ deer – oh, and incidentally assaulting Germans in WWI. Caliber? A guy can turn a dumb ol’ Ruger 10/22 – a .22 caliber semi-auto – with a wooden stock used for plinking into assault-rifle by putting a new cool assault-style stock. To be used for plinking.

  15. Worth noting is that the shooter went to Nevada to get a gun because, at age 19, he was not eligible to buy anything like that gun in California, and the magazines he used were also banned in California. So he was never the “good guy with a gun”, but was rather…

….a criminal on multiple counts. He also had broken into the festival, cutting a fence, on his way. And thankfully, the police were close enough to engage him before he killed a lot more people.

  16. Legan wrote he didn’t want hordes of “white tw*ts” moving in on Silicon Valley. Oh, yeah, I think we can see who wrote the above. All of this is at heavy com.

  17. Hey look Penigma found a new screen name so he could trick me into debating him. Nice try Peeve, go fuck yourself dude

  18. The left supports gun ownership? Um, please explain that in light of New York State’s new 30 day waiting period to buy a firearm. Reality is that the Brady Campaign–the latest of about half a dozen names chosen by Handgun Control Inc. to hide their real nature–has always been, and always will be, about removing firearms from the ownership and use of the law-abiding. They hide it by changing their name and moderating their rhetoric temporarily, but the end game is the same; institute the 1920s German firearms laws.

  19. Legan wrote he didn’t want hordes of “white tw*ts” moving in on Silicon Valley. Oh, yeah, I think we can see who wrote the above. All of this is at heavy com.

Someone needs to tell the idiot that wrote that that he just basically described all of Silicon Valley, and those are about the nicest words I can use to describe those lefty technocrats.
