I can’t find a link, but I dimly recall that in “Ringworld,” a classic sci-fi novel for which Larry Niven won the Hugo Award in 1970, the characters learn the Ringworld civilization was destroyed by a super-conductor-eating virus. When one character admits he headed the project to seed the virus, another curses him: “May you be the first victim of retro-active abortion.”
