The Gatekeepers

As I try, in my peasant-y way, to navigate the reefs and shoals of all the “fake news” the world throws before us, I’m thankful we’ve got gatekeepers like “Snopes.com” to do our thinking for us.

That’s the American “Fact-Check” industry – guarding the ramparts of American intellectual integrity.

  1. this is what the 2nd or 3rd time theyve done this. Not only can the left not meme, they have no sense of humor.

  2. There is a lesson,I think, in that many people are believing the Bee’s spoofs, especially of Democrats. Hint; it means they’re way.out.there. People believed this one because it was indeed plausible.

  3. Satirist Tom Lehrer said (apocryphally), that he quit writing songs after Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Price because, “Satire had become redundant.”

  4. It is said – or perhaps I’m just making this up – that back in the 60s, the radical left, the Jerry Rubins and Abby Hoffmans were confident that their perspective would eventually win because their side was just having way more fun than the other. Very similar to Rule 6 from Rules for Radicals: “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”

But even more important is Rule 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”

    The Babylon Bee embodies both.

  5. NW, I personally heard the late Tom Wolfe say the same thing. It was getting hard for him to write something that wasn’t already exceeded by reality.

That said, I praise God for the Babylon Bee. Sometimes it’s good to laugh, especially at yourself.

  6. Bikebubba – the original editor of Babylon Bee sold the publication to the current owner last year, and the new owner has made the Bee a little edgier and more political. I lost the bookmark for the original editor’s new publication, but he was wanting to stay focused on the more spiritual humor.

Nice, though, that we can still point out the absurdities.
