It’s a miracle he made it across with a Trabi engine! I have wondered for decades why the left never seems to clue in that it was significant which way the machine guns and land mines were arrayed around the Berlin Wall, and why it’s significant that about 10% of the population of Cuba (and a huge portion of Venezuelans) risked machine gun fire to get away from Castro (and Maduro). It’s like kids putting their fingers in their ears saying “I can’t hear you” when you have to tell them something that doesn’t match their view of the world.
Liberals believe every thing they say, at the moment they say it. Never mind what they may say minutes from now, or 5 minutes ago, and especially pay no attention to objective reality, fact, truth or any of those other completely malleable things.
In Germany, no one fled East. There was this wall, you see.
There was this wall, a secret police, poverty…..regarding the Stasi, it’s worth noting that one big reason that nudism became very popular in East Germany is because you can’t discreetly wear a wire if you’re naked, so it was a way of obtaining some distance from the secret police and being able to speak a bit more freely. Since reunification, the practice has declined quite a bit.
But never assume “evidence” will convince a liberal, sad to say.
I don’t believe they have ever seen any evidence of the failure of socialism. The idea that socialism is good is taught to them in school. It is what journalists tell them. It is what Hollywood tells them.
Ocasio-Cortez graduated with honors from Boston University. She studied foregn relations and economics. She seems to know little about either foreign relations or economics. She seems to have been taught to be ignorant.
Ocasio-Cortez has been trained to bark like a seal to get rewarded. Up til now, it has worked. We’ll see what happens next.

Agreed. She knows the words tho’ and she is able to say them with the authority of someone who knows what they’re talking about. In the Rhetoric-World of the (Young) Left, that’s all you need.
Regarding AOC and economics, she strikes me as someone who passed micro pretty much against her will, and then proceeded to become quite enamored with all the manipulation you’re theoretically able to do with macro, econometrics, etc.. When you get right down to it, you will find plenty of people of the Galbraith/hyper-Keynesian school who will recite what AOC says, chapter and verse. Right down to ignoring that the real, reasonable costs are far higher than tax revenues, borrowing, and the like.
I remember almost falling into that, but the pull of micro, and later the Austrian School, kept me from that. Plus a professor who pointed out that by the time Congress responds to a crisis, economically speaking, it’s usually too late to help.
