As Reported In The Budapest Star/Tribune

On NPR the other morning, I heard a story about Hungarian protests against a new overtime  law.

The protesters complained to NPR’s reporter on the scene that the main broadcaster in Hungary – which is governed by a conservative, putatively “Trumpist” popular government led by Viktor Orban – is controlled by the state, and that all major private media is controlled by allies of the government.

And I thought “Hmmmmm”, as I listened to NPR on the local Minnesota Public Radio station, and looked at the copy of the Star/Tribune in the passenger seat of my car.

But I continued listening.

One of the protesters complained that the media didn’t accurately report the numbers of people at their demonstrations, when they bothered to report about the demonstrations at all.

And I pondered for a moment, remembering when the media reported “hundreds” of attendees at Tea Party rallies at the Capitol in 2009-2010  that drew closer to 7,000.

And I thought “Huh.  So there are examples of media bias that the mainstream American media will report on”.

  1. seriously do you people enjoy torturing yourselves by listening to NPR, unless you cant get a signal why in the flying fuck would you ever torture yourself with NPR? Seriously I dont get it.

  2. Rumor has it that a prominent politician married her brother – but you are never going to hear that on Hungarian Public Radio (HPR)

  3. I used to listen to an hour of Morning Edition and a hour of All Things Considered during my daily commutes. I was a member since the mid-70’s and even volunteered during the semi-annual pledge drives.

Now I cannot stand to listen to MPR or NPR for more than three minutes at a time and will go months between sessions where I waste three minutes.

All they talk about is race, gender, sexual orientation and how evil Trump and the Republicans are. In the past, the liberal bias was always showing – but it didn’t dominate every story line – now it does.

It’s insane. I mean, literally, insane.

  4. All they talk about is race, gender, sexual orientation and how evil Trump and the Republicans are

So… basically everything the MSM covers that isnt Fox or Fox News.

  5. Not exactly, Prince of Darkness.

The evening news is different. I summarize it as follows.

BREAKING NEWS – WE HATE TRUMP
Weather stuff (mostly involving the Northeast)
    House on fire somewhere
    Pharmaceutical commercial
    Car chase
    Pharmaceutical commercial
    Pharmaceutical commercial
    Pharmaceutical commercial
Fluff story about an amazing kid
    Pharmaceutical commercial
    Pharmaceutical commercial
    Pharmaceutical commercial
    Something really heartwarming

    Public Radio is more like:

THE WORLD IS ENDING BECAUSE OF TRUMP
THE WORLD IS ENDING BECAUSE OF CLIMATE CHANGE
    WOMEN ARE VICTIMS
    WHITE PEOPLE HATE WOMEN
WHITE PEOPLE HATE BLACK PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN
EVIL REPUBLICANS CUT FUNDING FOR WOMEN, BLACK FOLKS, GAYS AND TRANS BECAUSE THEY ARE EVIL
Fluff piece about something that happened somewhere that is kind of odd.

Now do you see the difference?

  6. Pharmaceutical commercial [x 10]

Good one. Got a chuckle out of them. And the rest too. Nice job.

  7. Two weeks ago, I was working in the Oklahoma panhandle; NPR was the only station I could get.

For 5 days I listened to Terry Gross “Fresh Air”, and every. single. story. tied into homosexuality; approvingly of course.

Sometimes the story had no direct tie-in to butseks, but apropos of nothing, Gross would pop odd with a “so, how did you deal with that, as a gay man?”.

Why do I have to donate a penny to airing this shit?

  8. Swiftee,

Terry Gross may be gross, but turn on PBS’s Democracy NOW! if you want to see a virulent puss-pile of commie howling. Talk about the far-far-far left traipsing through out institutions.
