On Governor Dayton’s Weekend Orgy Of Vetoes Followed By Shutting Down His Office Mid-Afternoon Of The Final Substantive Day Of The Session

I suspect Mark Dayton was one of those kids who used to insist he hated pork when his parents (or their servants) served pork, but insisted he loved pork when beef was on the menu.

  1. This behavior by Mark Dayton over the past couple weeks is the quintessential example of progressive, elite, white, male, privilege.
The GOP should tack Mark Dayton and that phrase onto whoever the Democrats nominate to run this fall. Take the adjectives and identity away from them.

  2. If I t’were running the MnGOP PR department, I’d be out with a statement much like this:

“In a fit of spite Gov. Dayton shut down the Legislature last year. This year, he intends to do the same with the entire state. Any shutdown and the suffering caused by it is solely on the governor. We attempted to work with him, but he has been unwilling to negotiate with the Legislature now for two years, and is now throwing another tantrum.”

You might as well point out Dayton’s consistent bad-faith and the lack of trust in this governor and assign the blame where it lies.

  3. Regarding his primary reason for vetoing the spending legislation, I commented on a report about the Somali daycare fraud discovery: “Governor Dayton, if you want an additional $100 million for emergency school funding, NOW YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO TO GET IT.”
