Profiling

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

A shopper at a Roseville liquor store was upset that store management wanted to check her large bag.  She was at the store on Sunday with about a dozen people, picketing, signs saying “MGM Racist” and “Treat Everyone Equally.”

Maryam S., the person who complained on YELP on 7-1-17, says MGM never checks anybody’s bags.  That’s how she knows she was singled out.  Scroll past a few Fake Reviews by Social Justice Warriors from places like Arlington, Virginia and Apple Valley (who obviously never shop there), you find a review from Gnos G. dated six weeks before the complaint, another Asian whose bags got searched.

Maryam says when she called the owner, she was told that searching bags is carefully limited to people whose conduct is suspicious.  The owner pointed out that historically, most shoplifting in that store has been done by Black shoppers.

In other words, you were not singled out to be searched, Maryam, because searching bags has been store policy for weeks (and that sign has been on the door for years – I know because that’s my regular liquor store).  And you were not profiled for being Asian, they check Black people’s bags, too.

Searching large bags in a store is not racism.  It’s loss prevention.  If you worked in retail instead of being an Emergency Room Doctor at St. John’s Hospital, you’d know that.  I realize it’s jarring to suddenly find yourself being treated unfairly because of what other people have done in the past.  Believe me, I know exactly how that feels.

I am constantly berated for having White Privilege.  The fact that long ago and far away some White people mistreated some Black people doesn’t mean that THIS White person has mistreated any Black people.  I never owned any slaves, no Black person living in Minnesota today toted any bales of cotton, so using the same logic as Maryam’s example, I shouldn’t have to hear another damn word about White Privilege.

What’s that you say?  Embedded in the culture?  Indirect beneficiary of other people’s crimes?  Guilt by association?  Racial stereotypes?  That door swings both ways, too.  Identity politics paints everyone with broad brushes.

It’s all fine and good to mouth Liberal platitudes about justice and equality and vestiges of institutional oppression.  But when it comes right down to the bottom line, shoplifting is a crime and loss prevention is the solution.  Leave your backpack in the car next time.

  1. Is anyone going to protest at the hospital for employing a liquored-up physician?

  2. The fact that long ago and far away some White people mistreated some Black people doesn’t mean that THIS White person has mistreated any Black people.

Last time I checked, more black people mistreated black people than did whites. By a wide margin. And that includes slavery.

Look a’here, some people say we got a lot of privilege
Some say it’s a lotta nerve
I say we won’t quit moving
Til we keep some a what we earn
We’ve been buked and we’ve been scourned
We’ve been treated bad, talked about
As just as sure as you’re born
But just as sure as it take
Two eyes to make a pair, huh
Brother, we can’t quit until we keep our share

    Say it loud,
    I’m white and I’m proud
    Say it loud,
I’m white and I’m proud, one more time
    Say it loud,
I’m white and I’m proud, huh

I’m not. The last time the HR drone from Kali tried that on our group of engineers it didn’t go well for her. Strangely enough, one of the most vocal folks was a very black refugee from Eritrea who ripped into her with surprising gusto. I’m not sure if it’s a cost-cutting move or something else, but we haven’t had a visit from a Kali HR person since.

Near as I can tell, none of my relatives ever did anything slave-related other than fight in the Civil War for the North, and more than a few died doing so. So do I get reparations from blacks for relatives who died trying to free them? That makes about as much sense as them asking for slavery reparations for something that my ancestors fought and died to eliminate.

Mitch: I’m verging on just about done for apologizing for my skin color.

Are you also on the verge of apologizing for your excessive height? You had more control over that growing up than over genetic makeup.

Near as I can tell, my religion teaches that God doesn’t particularly care if you’re rich, poor, black, yellow, smart, stupid, liberal, or conservative. He cares that you love him and that we love each other for who we are, not for what we do. If some SJW wants to hate someone based on the color of their skin, we know the content of their character and it’s not pretty.

It doesn’t matter. this is not about reason. This is the implementation of a literary theory called “structuralism” applied as a governing philosophy. Do the characters in a mystery novel have choices? Do they decide to be heroes or villains? Because the structure of society is racist, its characters (us) are all acting out parts in the structure. This is why Black cops who shoot Black criminals are agents of White Supremacy. This is why Blacks who do not feel oppressed by white supremacy are not truly Black (Black people are oppressed, if you are not oppressed, you are not Black. If you are a wealthy, powerful Black man, you are still oppressed.
It is original sin. It is not based on anything you have done, it is based on what you are. You cannot prove yourself innocent of structural racism. That is the point.
Structural racism is primarily a means to power over others. What it means to be “woke” is, first and foremost, to be superior to those who are not “woke.” Their idea of reality if an evil illusion, your idea of reality is true. You have a moral imperative to control team and make them behave according to your will.

  6. I’ve heard it said that this country was built on the backs of the black slaves down south.

I disagree. This country was built on the backs of white people wearing work clothes made from the cotton picked by, and smoking tobacco products made from the tobacco picked by, the black slaves down south.

  7. To give you an idea how deeply into madness the ideology of “structural racism” has affected the Left, if there is “structural racism”, one of its symptoms will inevitably be a greater number of crimes committed by the oppressed. This is a natural consequence of structural racism. It drives the oppressed to commit crimes as a result of their oppression. If Blacks committed crimes at the same rate as whites in their social class, that would be proof that structural racism does not exist.
Liberals insist both that Blacks commit no more crimes than any other ethnic group (ignoring all evidence to the contrary), that believing that being Black makes you more likely to be a criminal is white-supremacist thinking, and also that the fact that Blacks commit more crimes than whites in their social class is evidence of “systematic racism.”
