A Good Kid With A Gun, Y’All

A mass stabbing attack left one dead and three wounded at the University of Texas Austin.

It could have been worse, but…:

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing a student pull out a concealed handgun on the suspect, and made him back down.

While one can expect the UT and Austin media to downplay such a story – after they all doubled and tripled down against lawful carry on campus – this blog presumes the story true, and that the unnamed student is a hero.

  1. Hmm… The “good kid with a gun” angle is not covered here. Not even on conservative stations.

  2. If true, good for that student, and good for his neighbors. We need more perps stopped by the law abiding, and it’s almost a shame the young student didn’t save us the cost of a trial and incarceration.

  3. Perhaps because – if he is smart – he and his gun melted away as quickly and as anonymously as possible. No benefit to being on the UT administration’s radar, even if you’ve just saved lives.

  4. Yeah, but if it’s like here, failing to report brandishing a firearm can get a person in trouble, and God help the U. of Texas at funding time if they come out with the long knives against a guy who saved lives, no?

  5. Not in Austin, and not on campus. “Ban guns” and “Gun Free Zone” signs abound at UT. It is an institute of higher learning after all. Although legislature is trying to pass a law to permit carry on campus.

So, though this particular happenstance is still hearsay, this is a real documented one:

A scene of both tragedy and heroism unfolded in Texas on Wednesday when cops say a man walked into a sports bar and fatally shot an employee.

But before the suspect could get away, an armed patron of Arlington’s Zona Caliente Sports Bar reportedly drew his own weapon and opened fire on the gunman, killing him.

Cops did not clarify whether a third person who was also injured was a customer or employee of the bar. The person was reportedly injured by shattered glass.

What cops have said, however, is that the quick draw customer may have saved lives.

“[He] prevented further loss of life,” a spokesman for the Arlington Police Department told Dallas News.

  6. JPA, legalized last September. UT may be trying to nullify the law, but their own site (google it) notes it’s legal.

  7. After the Charles Whitman incident on the UT campus, I wouldn’t want to be walking around that campus unarmed.

  8. BB, I stand corrected. Thank you. Yet, the “guns are scary” signs were up in full view in dorm and lab/office windows when we visited campus a couple months ago. I guess a libturd desire for victimhood never dies.
