The Plan

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

My boss is a liberal.  “Trump tweeted that he’s breaking his promise, Mexico won’t pay for the wall, we will.”

My response: you’re being distracted from important things by irrelevancies.  Social Security runs out of money in three years. Then what?

His idea: make the federal government repay the money they stole from it.

Seriously?  The reason the federal budget is only short $500 billion each year is that we’re borrowing money from the Social Security fund to cover it.  Where will we get the money to close that gap PLUS repay the IOUs to Social Security?

Simple: the government will just have to come up with the money. And if they don’t have it, then we can’t build the wall. And besides, it’s only temporary, until enough undocumented immigrants arrive to pay into the system again, then it’ll all work out.

Yes.  The liberal plan is to bail out Social Security with [illegal immigants], which is why we must not build the wall, so they can get in, to save us.

Joe Doakes

Which is, of course, also why we need to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour; if people make more, they pay more social security taxes.  Hence solvency…

I’ve been hearing this crap from progressives for the last 5 years. To shut them up quickly I point out that the (current) 95 million people who could, but won’t, participate in the workforce would easily solve that problem without importing criminal migrants if only there were some way to get them back to work. Then I ask how they’d get them back to work. The usual response is either silence or I get labeled a racist. Progressives got nothing to offer, they’re empty vessels.

Oh, c’mon Joe. He didn’t really say that….did he?

I like to think of the Trump Wall as a Krugmanesque economic stimulus.

The liberal press tells its readers that:
Illegal immigrants can save social security.
Illegal immigrants do the jobs Americans won’t do.
Illegal immigrants commit fewer crimes than the native born.
Illegal immigrants are less likely to be on public assistance than the native born.
Illegal immigrants do not reduce the wages of American workers.

All of these statements are highly contentious. But liberals accept their truth on faith.
So the only reason you want to reduce the population of illegal immigrants is because you are a racist.

You mean the Ivanka Trump wall. The Donald will be like gone and the GOP will still be talking about a “building the wall.”

I think that you need to work on your predictive skills, Emery.
I make no predictions about a wall, or anything else.
But I strongly suspect that there will be big changes in immigration policy, on the ground, even if congress passes no new immigration laws.
Trump received the endorsement of the border patrol union (actually the National Border Patrol Council). I’ll be more interested in what they have to say about any of Trump’s attempts to control border crossings than what the media or pundits say.

It strikes me that, no matter who “officially” pays for the wall, both sides benefit hugely from it. Mexico benefits as drug cartels need to “invest” more in getting across it, and thus they can invest less in mayhem. We benefit as fewer hard drugs cross the border, fewer immigrants are assaulted to get them to carry hard drugs, and fewer immigrants (especially criminal ones) get across.

Not none, but fewer, and that’s fine. I’ve noticed that the # of people on our various welfare programs–at least the higher levels of support–parallels the # of people we’ve got here illegally. In the same way, if we do indeed have a million illegal felons, then….exactly why do we want them on our streets? Do we have a lack of native born felons to commit crimes?

Bubba, I heard the former Mexican Ambassador say, on MPR yesterday, that Mexico might relax it’s war on the cartels in retaliation for the wall. If that’s not a violent threat, I don’t know what is.

He also suggested Trump’s promise to bring American jobs back to America is an attack on Mexico. What he was in fact saying was that Mexico is incapable of dealing with domestic criminals or of creating a self sustaining economy on it’s own.

Maybe they should just cede their country to us. We could run it as a protectorate.

Sounds like a prescription for yet another revolution in Mexico, really. “Say, because we’re throwing a hissy fit against Senor Trump, we’re going to leave our border provinces at the mercy of the narcotraficantes! Oh, and if you wanted to get an honest job in that zone…fuggetaboudit.”

I hear that Trump has set up a GoFundMyWall site.

Not only do illegal immigrants do the jobs that Americans won’t do, they commit the crimes that Americans won’t commit.

The Nobel Prize for economics has yet to be awarded to the thinker who has demonstrated how a national economy can thrive without people.

If Trump set up a gofundmywall site, I think the commenters at SITD could cover a good chunk of it. Volunteers already patrol the border. The Feds hate that. If the laws passed by the peoples’ congress and signed by the president conflict with what the feds want to do, well, we know what happens, don’t we.

For an economy, you only need two people. Example:
Two Russkis are in Chechnya. One has been shot all to hell and bleeding out. His comrade is carrying him to safety down a forest path.
“Comrade” Says the wounded Ivan “Put me out of my misery! Just put a bullet in my head!”
“I can’t!” Says his buddy “I am out of bullets!”
The wounded Russki thinks for a moment, and says — .
“I’ll sell you one of mine.”

To quote Dennis Prager (I prefer him to Rush). “Leftism has been the most powerful religion of the last 100 years.”

And it is only now starting to recieve pushback. And another quote to finish it off ‘The right thinks the left is wrong. The left thinks the right is evil.”

Wise man, I wish more people listened to him. Because politics isn’t life, despite how leftists act

Prager 1 l, Trump I know at least 2. And to give him credit he was anti-Trump all throughout the primaries but once he won the nomination he supported him. Unlike Medved who I’ve lost a ton of respect for and never got behind Trump until post election. Medved and Beck might lose their shows long term due to their ‘pure’ decision to not reluctantly get behind Trump to stop Clinton.
