Empaneled

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

Concealed carry permit holders should ask for a subcommittee to deal specifically with the issues of how police treat lawfully armed citizens.

Up until the Castile shooting, I’d have said most Minnesota cops were pretty decent around law-abiding shooters.

I suspect most are.  But as the anecdotes roll in, clearly there’s room for improvement.

So let’s improve.

  1. The NRA has a supposedly pro-Trump ad out featuring a woman who says she is glad she had a pistol when a man assaulted her. “Every woman has the right to defend herself with a gun if she chooses,” she says.
The NRA just spent $6.5 million on an ad that will remind women that they have to defend themselves against men like Trump.

Expensive way to shoot themselves in the foot.

  2. If it was a man like Trump, she wouldn’t WANT to defend herself from him, she’d be throwing herself at him hoping to benefit. That’s the dirty little secret of men in positions of power everywhere, from the casting couch to grad students to congressional interns. Trump didn’t invent play-to-pay, he merely let the cat out of the bag.

Which is why he’s TOTALLY unfit to go head-to-head with Putin over nuclear-capable missiles in the Med or to beat up Congress to save Social Security. He lacks the moral fitness to lead.

  3. But speaking of police encounters with lawfully armed citizens – we WERE speaking of that, before someone rudely thread-jacked this column – I think there ought to be a standard protocol taught to cops and to carriers so they know the rules to avoid misunderstanding. Cops and carriers ought to sit down together to make it happen.
