Diminished Standards

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

New Rasmussen poll says 50% of Americans think Hillary should continue to campaign for President, even if charged with a crime.  Of course the answer is slightly suspect poll uses push techniques to set up the answer; but still, that’s a high percentage.  Survey questions here.

Oddly, I agree – she should keep running, same as any Republican being “investigated” during the campaign.  Law suits brought against candidates by partisans have become so common that if candidates stepped aside for every one, nobody could ever be elected and the government would be paralyzed, unable to impose new taxes or impose any new regulations . . . wait a minute . . . .

Heh.

  1. “I’ve borrowed knowing that you can pay back with discounts,” Trump told CNBC.
That’s an interesting way to describe using bankruptcy to defraud your creditors.

  2. Standard banking practice Emery – you think somehow Trump has no moral right to take advantage of those practices? Please explain.

  3. The scariest thing here isn’t that 50% of Americans think Hilliary should run if she’s indicted. It’s that more Americans aren’t asking why the H*** she hasn’t been indicted already. What she’s done is a pretty clear violation of 19 USC 1824, after all.

  4. I’m not sure most Trump supporters understand that his “great success as a businessman” largely stems from making promises he can’t keep and cheating people when he owes them money.

    One word, Emery.
    “Whitewater.”
It is difficult to come up with any criticism of Trump that doesn’t apply equally as well to Hillary.

  6. I’m not a huge fan of Mr. Trump’s business, but it’s worth noting that his first few decades in the real estate business did involve pretty much fair deals where nobody got shafted. Can’t say that about Whitewater or cattle futures, the travel office, or the Clinton Foundation.

  7. That was a hell of a threadjack, Emery. Doakes and Mitch have a post up about Hillary and you turn into a Trump thing.

  8. So, Hillary attacked Trump on honesty, trust, competence, and foreign policy.
    Kind of funny.

More projection than a 20-screen multiplex.

  10. I believe there is some collusion between Hillary’s campaign and taxpayer-funded National Public Radio. Hillary’s speech in Cali yesterday was supposed to appeal to national security Republicans as well as Democrats. NPR gave glowing coverage to Hillary’s speech, followed by an interview with a Republican security analyst & journalist who said he would vote for Hillary. The guy is a writer for Bill Kristol’s Weekly Standard. Kristol is a ‘never Trumper.’ This was not mentioned.
There was no interview or story about a Trump supporter.

  11. What we really need to see is more Clinton surrogates telling us to imagine Trump as President.

Isn’t the idea of Hillary as prez scary enough? Add in Bill Clinton back in the White House.

  13. I think you forgot to mention Vince Foster with your “whitewater” reference.

  14. bb;

Lest we forget, the entire mortgage crisis of 2008, can be placed on the head of Slick Willy, along with the 3 Stooges of economic stupidity, Fat Bowney Fwank, Chis Dud Dodd and Franklin Raines.

We also need to point out the flagrant hypocrisy spewed by that shrew from MA; Liz “Pocahontas” Warren. Apparently, it’s OK for her to flip houses, but not Trump. Have not been able to verify this yet, but Lizzie supposedly evicted a couple of veterans to get their houses from foreclosure and flipped them, too. What a benevolent libidiot!

  15. If you’re going to lecture us on the law, Emery, you should have the courtesy to let us know which legal dictionary you’ll be using. When I was in law school, bankruptcy was not fraud, it was a constitutional right, and actual fraud wasn’t dischargeable in bankruptcy.

As for using bankruptcy to force creditors to take less money, let me whisper a name: Steven Rattner. He was President Obama’s “Car Czar,” the guy who stage-managed the GM and Chrysler bankruptcies in which the Obama bailout money was available only if bondholders agreed to take less than they were owed so union pension funds could get full payment. The moral decadence you ascribe to Trump is equally applicable to President Obama and I don’t recall hearing you wail about that.

As for making promised you can’t keep then discharging them in bankruptcy, see if you can find an employee of Northwest Orient Airlines to tell you about it. The airline was the master at it. They’d resist the union until there was a strike, wait until the strikers couldn’t afford to be out any longer, then settle by agreeing to a contract the airline couldn’t afford, then duck into bankruptcy to have the onerous terms thrown out but the favorable ones kept. It is, indeed, common business practice and the fact you don’t know it . . . well, none of us are surprised.

  16. Who is Vince Foster, Emery?
I am talking about Whitewater. This covers the Cintons’ involvement in a number of shady real estate deals and the collapse of an S&L, with the taxpayers holding the bag. The Clintons were investors when Bill was attorney general of Arkanasas. Hillary did the lawyer work.

  17. Yep, if you’re looking for a president who never got involved in shady real estate deals, this isn’t your year. Even Sanders’ wife got caught up in some failed real estate speculation with other peoples money.
It kinda makes me lonesome for ol’ Honest Abe.

  18. Trump’s attitudes about the law have been out in the open for years. In his mind, our constitution and legal system are nothing more than weapons. It is to be used as a shield to avoid paying what you owe, to defraud and get away with it. Trump is proud of this conduct as is any gangster.

  19. Emery whinged “our constitution and legal system are nothing more than weapons. It is to be used as a shield to avoid paying what you owe, to defraud and get away with it. “

And this is different from the documented behavior of the Clintons, Mark Dayton, Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Terry McAuliff, Barney Frank, Barak Obama or any of dozens of other Progressives in what specific way. There is a legal definition of fraud how does Mr Trump satisfy that definition while these other heros of yours don’t. Please draw upon your vast legal knowledge for the answer or admit that your assertion is (gasp) fraudulent.

  20. Trump is proud of this conduct as is any gangster.

Trump is quite open about his business practices, as well as he should be….they are completely legal.

Meanwhile, forgive me if I’m mistaken, but I don’t recall the Clot stumbling drunkenly out on a stage in her crazy concussion glasses to address this:

The Clinton Foundation has joined Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network on a list of naughty nonprofits maintained by Charity Navigator, a prominent charity monitor.

The Clinton Foundation was put on Charity Navigator’s “watch list” last month, The New York Post reported on Sunday.

The foundation has come under intense scrutiny of late amid revelations it received millions of dollars in donations from foreign governments while Hillary Clinton served as secretary of state. Money also flowed to the foundation from companies and businessmen who benefited from their relationship to the Clintons.

Furthermore, analysis of the foundation’s tax forms showed it spends a relatively small percentage of its income on charitable activity.

Of the Clinton Foundation, Charity Navigator wrote: “We had previously evaluated this organization, but have since determined that this charity’s atypical business model can not be accurately captured in our current rating methodology”

Yup, your hero is a conniving scumbag that misappropriates funds and lives on a cash flow derived through fraud and payola.

Not surprisingly, the Clot is not the first leftist to steal from charities…we all recall that MN Senator Al Franken participated in the fleecing of a children’s charity to get paid while in the employ of Air America, and then lied about it. The leftist reprobate community of MN didn’t bat an eyelash.

    You people are beneath contempt.

  21. Oh, and please explain how ripping the elderly off constitutes honesty and integrity, Emery:

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. – A Minnesota woman and her son claim Hillary Clinton’s campaign is making unauthorized charges to her credit card, and in spite of dozens of calls to the campaign, they can’t get it to stop.

    http://www.kare11.com/news/investigations/kare-11-investigates-unauthorized-charges-by-clinton-campaign/229158541

I will admit, if they haven’t figured out Democrats are scumbags by the time someone is 81 years old I won’t waste any tears, but I will rightly use it as an example to rub into your feral, ignorant snout.

  22. rub into your feral, ignorant snout.

ok swiftee thats just too good – I’m going to have to plagiarizer it, elsewhere of course, on the internet

  23. I doubt that you will make much ground, Emery, in arguing that Hillary has more respect for honesty, the law, and the constitution than Trump does.

  24. We need to hear from some pro-racism experts before jumping to conclusions.

  25. No Emery, I think everyone will agree that you cover all moron bases very nicely.

  26. Hillary really is in a pickle. If she argues honesty, it reminds people of her own issues with the truth. Trump, at least, is not being investigated for criminal wrongdoing. If she points out Trump’s policy reversals, it reminds people of her policy reversals. If she says he is a cad who treats women like objects, it reminds people that a vote for Hillary is a vote to put Bill back in the White House (two for the price of one!). If Trump’s foreign policy ideas seem off the wall, it reminds people of her Iraq War flub (both for it and against it), Syria, Egypt, Libya, Crimea, Ukraine, and the ‘Russian reset.’

  27. Shiftee: Pro tip: When you just demonstrated to everyone that you are an idiot, stop talking.

BG: You should check your satire detector; I think it needs re-calibrating.

  28. Did I mention that if she runs against unpopular Obama policies, she has to worry about O siccing the JD on her? She can’t offer anything but a third Obama term.

  29. BG wrote: “She [Clinton] can’t offer anything but a third Obama term.”

Republicans are going to respond to the Democrat’s nomination of an unpopular candidate with a dubious record, by nominating a buffoon that no sane person can possibly support. Obama would win a third term if he could run.

  30. You wish, you amoral, fact challenged, obfuscating and unable to debate any argument thrown at you in this thread eTASS. Not a one. Consider yourself p0wned, heretofore, now and forever.
