By Mitch Berg
Jason Lewis, longtime Twin Cities talk show host, files paperwork to run for Congress in the Minnesota Second Congressional District.
i’m going to guess David Gerson never expected to be outflank on the libertarian wing…

Wonderful! I wish him good luck.

Interesting fact: The 2nd elected Obama twice and also voted to re-elect Mr. Franken.
Congressman Kline was successful because he attracted conservative Democrats and Independents. The 2nd has a history of electing pragmatists not ideologues.

Republican pragmatist? Democrat pragmatist? What’s the difference?

I’m not convinced the 2nd is Tea Party or Libertarian friendly. Both Gerson and Lewis will struggle in this district. Pam Myhra could be considered the establishment candidate. It’ll be interesting to see who Congressman Kline endorses.

Jesus F…..I just got redistricted out of Betty “a bunch of angry teabaggers” McCallum’s district and into John Klines. If now a liberal Democrat wins the 2nd……

Kline has owned this seat since 2002. It would be a shame for the GOP to endorse an unelectable candidate.

All we care about is the “R”. Statist “R” good. Startist “D” evil.

/“D”evil./

That wailing and gnashing of teeth you hear is the Gerson Campaign.

I was one of those who lived in CD2 and worked from 1994 to 2000 to finally get the seat in Republican hands. Frankly I’m more than a little disappointed that instead of putting their focus on building a solid back bench of legislators and other local officials who would be would be well-positioned to run for Kline’s seat on the day when he inevitably retired, that their “leadership” seems to have spent its time on pointless feuds with their Congressman. IMO Gerson and his supporters deserve to lose the nomination for that reason alone.
