Dear Mr. Flix,

It’s a good thing Narcos is so very, very good.

Because it might almost make up for you cancelling Lilyhammer.

Almost.

Seriously:  how am I supposed to tell my granddaughter the world is a decent place when Lilyhammer is cancelled, while Orange is the New Black just keeps on and on?

That is all.

  1. Sometime in the last few months Netflix seems to have hired a new writer for the information pop-ups when you mouse over titles. They used to give you useful information like “Horror (1994) College students on a camping trip are attacked by a psychopath wearing a giant beaver costume.” Newer releases have useless synopses like “Camping with friends is fun, but watch out for the beaver!”
    WTF?
Some SJW actually wrote Netflix and had them change the synopsis for a Disney toon, “Pocahantas”, because the new, cutesy, romantic description of the movie implied that Pocahantas needed a boyfriend to be happy. Which is the theme of the movie.

  2. I bailed on Orange is the New Black after the pilot episode even though a lot of people with what I thought were similar tastes raved about it. The Daredevil pilot was pretty good but I haven’t had time to watch the rest. I kind of enjoyed House of Cards but it went “meh” pretty quick so I can’t in good conscience recommend it to anyone. Longmire is a show I look forward to binge-watching when I have to the time but right now with The Walking Dead, OUAT, The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, The Leftovers, Gotham, etc. my limited TV-watching time is kind of full.

  3. I made it forty minutes into OITNB. Couldn’t stand it. I blame the showrunner, Jenji Cohen, who also did “Weeds”, which I watched all the way through, but had a love/hate thing going with.

I loved the first two seasons of House of Cards – but I started trying to watch S3 twice, and made it about half an episode, and haven’t been able to get any traction.

I did binge-watch “Longmire” a few weeks ago. S1 and S2 were excellent. S3 was showing some rot; it was descending into some hollywood-y cliches. S4, after netflix picked it up, was MUCH better.

S1 of Narcos lives up to the hype. Half the fun is the fact that the Columbian stuff is all subtitled Columbian Spanish, mostly with Columbian actors (and Luiz Guzman playing a Mexican). Superb.

  4. Case in point: netflix is recommending to me some film called “Dark was the Night.” Unhelpful synopsis? “Don’t go tearing down all the trees, or you might stir up something deadly. Not to mention hungry.”

  5. Lilyhammer lost me in Season 2. The theme of Season One was reclaiming your inner manhood. The theme of Season Two was embracing your inner gay. I think they read my positive review at The American Spectator Online and said, “We’ve got to lose this guy as a fan right now.”

  6. miss Bonanza. *Sigh*

Longmire is as close to “Bonanza” as tv gets these days.

    Except Season 3.

  7. Working through house of cards, love Kevin spacey. Any recommendations? Is it worth it to go back and watch the West Wing? Or is it too preachy?
