To Be Fair
By Mitch Berg
In my various skirmishes with the Minnesota left’s various anti-charter school advocates, I’ve brought a lot of evidence to bear that a) charter schools are a vital component in school choice, and b) most of the “evidence” against charter schools is partisan baked wind.
But if the public-school advocates had brought this to the table, I might have changed my mind.
Oh, I’m being sarcastic. It’s a bunch of elementary teachers leading their kids through a song praising Barack Obama.
Did I say “Praising?”
Barack Hussein Obama
He said that all must lend a hand [?]
To make this country strong again
Mmm, mmm, mm!Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be clear today
Equal work means equal pay
Mmm, mmm, mm!Barack Hussein Obama
He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
Mmm, mmm, mm!Barack Hussein Obama
He said Red, Yellow, Black or White
All are equal in his sight
Mmm, mmm, mm!Barack Hussein Obama
Yes
Mmm, mmm, mm!Barack Hussein Obama
[switch to the tune of “Battle Hymn of the Republic”]
Hello, Mr. President we honor you today!
For all your great accomplishments, we all [do? doth??] say “hooray!”
Hooray Mr. President! You’re number one!
The first Black American to lead this great na-TION!
Hooray, Mr. President something-something-some
A-something-something-something-some economy is number one again!
Hooray Mr. President, we’re really proud of you!
And the same for all Americans [in?] the great Red White and Blue!
So something Mr. President we all just something-some,
So here’s a hearty hip-hooray a-something-something-some!
Hip, hip hooray! (3x)
It occurs that linking to this video might make me a racist, so I should just stop right now.

To be fair, I thought only conservatives used Pres. Obama’s middle name.

No, only racists use the President’s middle name, NW.

great minds think alike mitch, I had this on my blog yesterday. Question, how did you figure out what they were saying? I wanted to copy the “lyrics” but the audio quality blew. Then again I did listen to it on my $300 used, 3 year old, laptop.

Whatever differences of opinion we may have about politics or anything else, the last thing you are is racist or sexist Mitch.
I emphatically agree with you that this is crosses over a reasonable boundary. It strikes me as partisan.
I’m all for teaching respect for the OFFICE of the presidency, and for the other branches of government, and for the principles of our system too.
This kind of ‘cheerleading’ for ANY individual? NO!
Better than elevating any specific peson should be encouraging respectful but very critical thinking applied to every elected and for that matter, every appointed, public servant.
Well written Mitch, except that I don’t think the viewpoint that this kind of thing is unacceptable is unique to conservatives.

According to some sites, the following was posted on the school district’s website this morning:
Dear Burlington Township Families:
Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country. Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or Dr. King, Principal of B. Bernice Young School, directly.
Sincerely,
Dr. Christopher M. Manno,
Superintendent of Schools

This does not shock me. Last night, my middle school child was in the car and I happened to have 100.3’s re-broadcast of Laura Ingraham on the radio. This morning when said middle-schooler repeated something she heard on the show that was disparaging of the President, my wife who is a public school teacher in the same district, told my daughter that in no uncertain terms was she to repeat anything even remotely disparraging of the President and/or his policies in school. My wife, who has a good deal more famialiarity with the teachers in our kids school than the average parent told my daughter: “your teachers will not tolerate of any negative views of Obama, so keep your mouth shut”.

Fortunately such hagiographic propaganda would never take place at a public school here in Minnesota.
“My school is Wellstone, I go to Wellstone…”

Doggie declared “It strikes me as partisan.” Gee, ya think?
Who penned this new national anthem?

Her great literary achievement?

PeterH,
I figured there’s be an explanation from the school. I just don’t find it especially convincing. Read the lyrics; big swathes of the song are not “history” as much as propaganda for current policy initiatives!
DG,
the link is in there. My CSS doesn’t play nice with YouTube’s embed code; I could do as Roosh does (Screenshoot a piece of the vid, put it in the post linked to the video), but that is too time-consuming today. I’ll have to fix that up once we finally get Version 5 of this blog done and released.

Heh. Good times. Good time.

Funny how much energy you kooks expend on ducking the “racist” claim.
Bet O.J. hates it when people call him “murderer” too.

Funny how much time you racists spend trying to pin your own attitudes on others.

ducking
The word is “obliterating”.

Well, duh. Nicole did it.

Get the “Smart YouTube” plug-in on WP; you simply cut and paste the URL from the video, change one letter in the string and it automatically loads it into your blog post. Very, very slick.

It strikes me as partisan.
Nothing partisan about it. Cult of Personality. Pure and simple.
