Last week, the Strib ran a story about a gun issue – a story by David Chanen about New Hope city hall shooter Ray Kmetz and his illegal access to a shotgun, via an illegal straw buyer.

I wonder why the gun shop didn’t check the Fed data base for Garant’s alias Ray Kmetz, the results would have been telling.

Does the city of New Hope restrict carrying weapons by employees, even those who legally can carry? Council member John Elder, who drew a weapon during the event, isn’t currently a police officer though he does work for the Mpls police department.

I’m not sure what the city of New Hope has in its employee handbook, but they can’t legally *not* allow citizens with permits to carry in City Hall.
Not sure how they’d classify Councilman Elder.
