Senator Franken

By Mitch Berg

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

But unlike way too many lefties the past eight years, I’m not going to disgrace myself by whinging about the results, or chanting “Selected Not Elected!”.  Senator Franken is going to be a terrible joke, and the sooner he gets into office, the sooner the citizens of Minnesota can start realizing their error.  Hopefully.

But here’s the question Minnesotans (or at least Minnesotans who care about Minnesota and its future) need to ask themselves: how many Minnesotans do you think can actually, correctly explain how this election went from a 200+ vote Coleman victory eight months ago to a 300 vote collective humiliation of the whole stateac?

That percentage  – and I’d be amazed if it got into single-digits – should be the percentage of confidence you feel with this state’s recount system.  Because if people don’t have confidence in their electoral system, how does democracy survive.

(And before one of you lefties shrieks “then don’t undercut that confidence by dissenting from Mark Ritchie in any way!”, remember what you spent the past eight years doing).

Mitch promised: “I’m not going to disgrace myself by whinging about the results”

…after which Mitch whinged about the the results.

Mitch, you can’t just say up front that it’s not whinging and then have everybody overlook the fact that you’re whinging.

“I call this isn’t whinging. NO BACKSIES!”

    Hang on a second.

Bush V. Gore was a fairly clear-cut decision that wrapped up the 2000 election fairly and clearly, for anyone whose brain hasn’t been eroded into a walnut-sized husk by years of the spyrochaetal paresis that is modern liberalism.

(That should occupy Clown for a minute or two. Or ninety).

As bad as having to say ‘Senator’ Franken is, the fact that I have little confidence in Minnesota’s election system is much worse.

Easy, they followed the law. Franken got the most legally cast votes, and Mitch, saying “I’m not going to X, but” is the same as DOING X. It’s just rhetorically more cowardly :).

    There, any more questions?

Which is an evasive non-answer. I didn’t ask you about the law. I asked how many Minnesotans could explain how the vote swung. Saying “the law said so” is like explaining thunder by saying “God is bowling”.

“The law” – which is the only thing the SCOM dealt with – allows a dizzying number of counting and recounting standards. That the recount was “legal” isn’t in question – the SCOM settled that. The question is what is in the law; how does it work?

And equating questions about the law and the way it saps confidence in elections with “spending eight years saying Bush was Selected”? Please. Put down the Alinski.

The Law is broken. It needs to be repaired.

Even if true, it is better than angryclown progressing through his “Bush Collection of Fine Whines” and then projecting the label onto others. Some days “angrybaby” would be a more appropriate nick. *shrug*

    Peev,
Do you still maintain that you at least try to understand Mitch’s comments and posts?

    Really? Really???

So cute to see you wingnuts finally worrying about the integrity of elections. Not to fear – it will pass. You’re a minority party. Vote suppression and fear-mongering will always be your real port in a storm.
