Nuisances

By Mitch Berg

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

If the Church shuffling around bad priests is a public nuisance for purposes of making it easier to sue, can the same theory be applied to schools who shuffle around bad teachers, or police departments who shuffle around bad cops, or courts who shuffle around incompetent judges, or even the federal government who shuffles around bad employees (whatever happened to Jamie Gorelick)

Or is this simply a claim against a despised religious minority in a state known for its Know Nothing heritage?

Not to mention a makework program for lawyers?

Instapundit has been running almost a daily story dealing with female teachers who have sexually abused their students (with the headline – “Teach Women Not to Rape”) but I don’t imagine any lawyer working the pedo priest goldmine will be going after school systems until the Church has no more money or property to take a percentage on. Then, I would imagine that just like the asbestosis lawyers moved on to mesothelioma, ‘advocates’ for victims of priests will find some other institution with money to go after.
It also doesn’t hurt the abusive teachers or bad cops that priests have a horrible image problem. Unlike bad teachers and bad cops, no one defends the priesthood by saying “hey, you’re gonna have some bad apples, but there are many, many more good ones” even though that’s the truth.

Clarence Thomas said that the worst bigots he’s encountered are northern white liberals.
It’s amazing how much anti-Christian bigotry there is in the Twin Cities, and how open it is. Read the comments in any article related to religion in the Star Tribune.
Or just 2 weeks ago. I was in line at a local book store. Two nuns were checking out and the guy in line behind them starts bashing the Catholic church. Telling the nuns how corrupt the church is.
